I've been in your shoes more than once. It is why I am always astounded when people select colors from paint chips in a store with fluorescent lighting, or buy paint on the strength of another poster's recommendation or from an Internet website.

The main function of color is to interact with light. If you don't know what the light will do to a color in a particular room, you don't know at all what color it will end up.

If you like the color, can you try going "up" several shades? Or painting large swaths of wall with different testers? I have 14 quarts of green paint in my basement . . . Green is particularly tricky, IMO. I would paint over it right away if you can and while you are in that mode, before you decide that you can "live with it."

My advice is 'don't stop'. Finish it out. Color bounces off walls too so maybe once all of the walls are done it will appear more 'alive'.

You also mentioned the gloomy day. Big impact. Ideally we want to be in a room that we find to be lovely regardless of time of day, weather and lighting. Maybe after having it all painted out it will take on a new 'hue' for you.

I remember when I painted my LR BM Baby Turtle. I took soooooo much time to prep (which I NEVER do) because I knew this was the color. I bragged to DH that 'this is it - I SWEAR!'. Let me tell you how disheartend I was when I finished and realized that my walls were baby poop color after a disagreeable meal. It was about that moment that DH came home from work and I plastered the worst fake smile on my face and said 'Isn't it great? It's just what I wanted!" Meanwhile my heart was sinking and my stomache was in knots!

Happily after I moved all of my furniture back in, got the curtains up and art on the wall I was elated to put it mildly. It was the perfect shade of green!

Have heart! This could turn out great for you!

groovia, I've never sampled Georgian Green but I always understood it to be a gray/green color. I was surprised to hear that's what you ended up going with to pair with navy for a child's room. It may look just fine; I couldn't tell without seeing pictures, but it sounds like a more lime-y green is what you had in mind.

I've linked to a picture below of a green, black and white nursery. If you mentally substitute the black elements for navy, I think you can see how this would work for you. This shade of green or an apple/pear green is the sort of green that would look very nice with navy accents IMO.

BUT... live with the GG for a while and see if it's really as bad as you think, or if it can be salvaged with pillows, art and decorative accessories if it is as bad as you think. :)

I was going to paint my house Georgian Green. Got a quart "sample" in exterior. Painted it on. Ugh. Olive-y baby poop. I wanted a light, fresh spring green which, in prior samples, had been how I would have described Georgian. In this new light, not so much. It was just *depressing*!

I wanted a green like this (from the day we had our canopy "re-tinned"):

This is from SW's official French Quarter colors (approved by the Vieux Carre Commission, but I've never seen any color like this in the Quarters) called "Chartres St. Green" That bright, freshness is what I wanted - especially because, as you can see, we have concrete rather than grass. I wanted something organic feeling.

So, grlwprls, what is that color on the siding? I like it! Jalapeno green is too dark.

That first one is Lime Rickey from SW. Guess I'll go to BM and see what they can do. Usually they pull out the fan decks and find a BM color that is similar and try to sell me on that. But I swear my Georgian Green sample looks like this lighter family of green. I also have about 12 shades of green paints from my DR project, which is how I came upon the Georgian in the first place.

Maybe BM Dill Pickle is an option. From both of my fan decks, SW Dancing Green looks like the closest match to my Beetle.

My color is Chartres St. Green (French Quarter collection...I don't know if you can even get it outside of Louisiana!...but I might have the formula). It's a Sherwin Williams paint. I love it (and everyone else does too, or they are very convincing liars!)

When I started painting dh's study Georgian Green (about a year ago) I went into panic. It was looking so muddy. I posted here. Lots of people encouraged me to keep going. I did and it's now one of my favorite rooms. Everyone who has seen it seems to really like it.

Having said that, it doesn't seem like the sort of green that will meet your particular needs. I don't think it will work for your 4 year old son's room. It might work if he were a teenager...a very serious teenager at that! But not now! It's really not a cheerful color. It is dark-ish. It is olive-y. It is great for a masculine study/library.

There are lots of vibrant, happy greens out there. BM's Country Green, 540, or Veranda View, 541, are soft but lively greens you may want to check out. Good luck!

I am surprised to hear that it's muddy. My friend had it in her living room and my sister in law has it in her dark basement and I love it. Not muddy, but not the beetle green you are going for. Try Sherwood Green. My neighbor has it in his spare bedroom and I find it cheery and crisp. But it may be too dark for you. I have Fernwood green, which is soft and lovely in our bedroom.

I went to BM and got 2 gallons of Dill Pickle. No sample. Just dug in. I think it's what I want. The sun is going down, so the lighting isn't ideal, but that's it. I'm done buying paint.

I think I might try some of the Georgian Green on a wall in our "fireplace room" which has dark leather furniture. DH wanted something olivey, so I'll throw that on an easy random and short wall and see how it works there. It would be great to be able to use the GG for something since I have 1.5 gallons left. I also have 2 gallons of Linen Sand from when I was going for a pale yellow. It ended up as that off-white blah color that is the current color of every room in our interior. I'm thinking I might stick it in our windowless stairwell and hallway since it needs to be painted at some point.

Scanmike, I should clarify. I felt panicky because it looked muddy when I first started painting. I was really surprised and concerned. Fortunately, Redbazel and Amy and Sheesharee, Loribee and others convinced me to keep painting & refrain from judging until two coats were up. I'm so glad I listened to them. Now, I wouldn't call it muddy. It is an olive-y hue that has depth. It's a great color. Groovia's "fp" room should wear it well.

So the Dill Pickle sample is gorgeous. On the walls, it is 70's avocado, Linda Blair vomit green.

I'm taking deep breaths, trying to gather the courage to go on, telling myself that if I went with a paler green, it would never be noticeable amongst all the furniture and stuff that little boys accumulate.

Groovia, so sorry to hear you're not liking it. I know exactly how you feel!

I don't think you should panic, but I also don't think you should keep going if you're instinct says "no." Finish the walls you have started and if you can, wait a day or two and just assess the situation.

I've painted our main bathroom 5, yes, 5 times (it has no windows and pinky-beige tile...hard to work with!). Each time, I knew immediately after the very first wall that it wasn't right but I kept going anyway.

If you wait a day or two, you'll be calmer and better able to decide if it's worth it to keep going--or if you're going to end up really hating it in the end.

And below is the link to a trick I want to share for choosing a paint color when panic sets in and you can't see straight...it has really helped me to focus and choose colors based not on emotion, but on the reality of the situation. Hope it helps!

Darn, I may be a little late to the party here...

I've seen Dill Pickle in a mbr, and it was gorgeous -so yeah, you may have to see it through.

If I'd gotten here earlier, I'd have suggested SW Hearts of Palm. We have it in our upstairs game room, selected after many samples, and it feels like the perfect green. Lively but not harsh, if you kwim.

Well, I decided to forge ahead, after a moment of leaving the room and coming back in and thinking to myself, "Hmmm. This might not be so bad." That's when I decided I should give it a chance to grow on me. Plus I plan to add some kind of horizonal blue stripe(s) somewhere on the wall, whether at the top or in the middle, or maybe just a blue chair rail. So once that would go up, it would break up the green and make it not seem so intense.
So phase II of this exciting adventure is finding the right navy blue to paint the giant sliding closet doors, which would also be the same blue of the horizonal stripe. But I have some solid navy curtains ordered from JCP that I'll be matching, so I hope it won't take long. Will post pics in the next few days.

Hello-I'm new to this forum. I justed wanted to say that I had a decorator advise me as to what color to paint the living room. My house is 120yr with a marble fireplace in the living room. She advised Georgian Green. I bought a sample and thought it was too dark. Of course, I bought 8 others. Finally, I just decided to use Geo. Green and I just love it!!! The sofa color is the color of brown sugar looks great. Even my dark Golden Retreiver looks beautiful when she's near the wall. I used Wilmington Tan in the foyer and up the stairs. It looks ok-I'm not used to the dark color. The BM website suggests Philadelphia Cream with GG, but I think it's a little too yellow. Any help would be appreciated.

Now I'm afraid, I bought Georgian Green for my living room but I'm thinking it may be too dark. I painted the wall surrounding my fireplace moroccan red BM. Do you think the green next to the red will look awkward?? I wanted an accent of the red in the room but I'm second guessing myself.
