I've seen many rooms painted in the Georgian Green and would not characterize it as 'drab'. You have a whole wall painted? It has two coats? And it looks drab? Or you really haven't put that much paint on the wall yet? My advice would be to stop thinking and keep painting. You have $60 worth of nice paint, get it in your tray and roll it on. If you get your room painted, put back a chair or hang a print temporarily in an existing nail hole, and it still doesn't do it for you, then, it will most likely take only one coat of the Folk Art to give you more of what you want. I suspect though, that the GG will be beautiful when completely painted out on your wall.

Oh, thanks, Red. You're right, I haven't done that much. I freaked out & thought maybe I should stop. Actually, the paint on my wall does not look as dark as in that pic, maybe because I get a fair amount of light in there. It's kind of medium intensity, a little "moody" not as cheerful as I had hoped. You have a positive impression, it sounds like, of GG. That sounds good!

Hey Stinky. Just a couple questions. Like Red said....do you have two coats up yet? If there are two coats on the sample board but not on the wall, that may be the reason for the discrepancy.

Remember, the color will start to bounce off all four walls when the room is done. It will "build up" as it were. Having a muted Martha color could be a good thing when that starts to happen.

What kind of light do you have in the room...right now, while painting and usually (windows, lamps, etc)? I can see where in a low-light room the GG would die on you, get muddy and drab. If the room gets a lot of sun, the Folk Art could be overwhelming.

No answers for you, just a few things to think about. Red is right about just doin' it. Just about everyone has doubts when the paint starts to go up. At least everyone who gives a hoot about color. :-)

When I first started painting Olive Branch on my kitchen white walls I was very, very concerned. Good things is it looked completely different once on a whole wall.

Thanks Amy! Mighty nice of you! Yes, I just peeked in at it again (I'm watching Rita Wilson's over-40 makeovers on Oprah) & it looks positively acid green in this late afternoon light! Not drab at all, lol! I think you're right, Folky would be too bright in this room! I'm feeling better about this.

When I was trying to find a nice light coffee color for my entry last year, something that would look good next to the adjacent Baby Turtle living room, no brown I tried looked good. I moved into grays.......hit some beiges, tested paint samples each day on my lunch hour. I even considered ordering paint from Farrow & Ball. The idea I had in my head just wouldn't come together, and let's face it, the entry is not really all that hard. It was just me. Finally, one Saturday morning, after reading a particularly profound comment from Patricia that I found from a month before, I decided to just go get Dry Sage, the color she mentioned in her post. I drove way across town, and once I was in the Ben Moore store, decided that I wasn't even going to test it. I was just going to do it. I remembered that Dry Sage had been a best seller for BM for years. I'd read online that it was one of the nicest colors to play up dark woods, and I had a new antique sideboard in a medium dark color that I was salivating to put in my entry. Patricia recommended it and had assured me that the changeable quality I had finally settled on, was exactly what I would get from Dry Sage, and I also considered that if in fact, it went up on the wall and I disliked it, it would at least provide a base and a stepping stone, to whatever the next color proved to be.
I bought a gallon, came home, put on my paint clothes, spread my tarp, and poured it into the tray. I steadfastly refused to even look at it. I hadn't wanted another green and it seemed very sage green in the tray. So I grabbed my roller, put it on the extension, and started rolling it on. I still didn't look at it. I rolled it and painted. I wrapped around the walls. I poured in more paint. I soldiered on. Darling daughter came home from an appointment and started to say something about the paint....."What color is that? I thought you absolutely positively didn't want another green!?" I said, "Hush!" I don't want to talk about it. Go make Dad's lunch!" And I painted. It wasn't for another hour, when I had much of the first coat on that I stopped to rest and look at the entry. The color was drying quite a little different than it looked in the can, or even in the tray. Still in the greens, of course, since I can't get a brown if my life depended on it. But it was gliding over the walls and settling itself into the entry.
When the 2nd coat went on, I knew it was going to be great. I still didn't know if I was going to settle here and not have to tweak it with a top coat of something else in a couple of weeks, but I knew it would provide a lovely setting for my antique gilt mirror and the sideboard. Only after it was dry, the mirror hung, the sideboard slid into place, my plant placed just so, and my black patterned rug arranged, did I notice the subtle changeable quality that Patricia had referred to in her own Dry Sage kitchen. I would have never been happy with a brown. I know that now. But I also know that, for me, after so much frustrating sampling over a 3-week period, I wouldn't have continued painting once I really looked at it going up on the walls. I needed to see it done to know.

Once your gallon is gone, I think you will know.

Well, I posted them a while back when I got done, so I didn't think about it for this post. I mostly just wanted to make the point that sometimes, once you commit to a color, and the color is not at all 'bad', then, you need to stop looking at it and just keep going....

In some lights, my entry is soft gray green, sometimes more gray, and in the evening, almost a soft blue. Hard to capture that with the camera...

I have Georgian Green in a few rooms in my house. It is beautiful but not cheerful. It is one of BM Historical colors and does have gray, dreary undertones. It changes quite a bit throughout the day. It looks particularly lovely at night with the lamps on. It is definitely moody. Also, mine does not look anything like what was posted above. It should look great with your chair fabric.

I know you said GG can be drab & dreary, but from your photos, I don't find it so at all! I actually DO find it somewhat cheerful, but I guess it changes a lot w/lighting. It's very definitely a green green. It doesn't appear gray. Looks warm & friendly...gorgeous in your beautiful house, btw! I don't know what South Dakota light looks like, vs. Virginia light. The room I'm painting gets a fair amount of light though.

That's just a creamy white on the walls...I think it was navajo white. The little bit of the green between the columns is guilford green which is on the strip with the georgian. It also turns all different colors according to the light.

Actually not sure why I picked guilford green since BM colors are not on a strip? Maybe they used to be? I can't remember!!

Contentwu, Would you consider the guilford to be a cheerier green than the georgian? It looks that way on my monitor.

Stinky-Gardener...I like to use the green as a neutral because it goes with everything IMO. I have dark floors and mostly dark wood in this house. But the green goes great with all the woods and colors of the spectrum. I think it looks great with plum/purples...red/corals/pinks...yellow/gold...(not that I recommend using all that in the same place, LOL). I feel like I am not locked in with this color if that makes sense. I am hoping it is versatile enough to bring all my hodge podge together. That is why I joined this board..I have a lot of work to do and you will see me asking nine million questions.

Saramakes6...As far as Guilford Green being cheerier than Georgian. I painted one of my bedrooms Guilford Green and I ended up changing it. It kept going too "minty" for me. No, I would not consider it cheerful.
