Happy Weekend Everyone!

Not a lot on tap here, I have my metalsmith class today and lunch with a friend. Tomorrow will be spent packing away the last of the summer clothes and out to dinner with friends tomorrow night. Sunday is football! Having a few friends in for a lost afternoon of relaxing, eating, drinking and watching a whole lot of pigskin.

Metalsmith class - oh, Alexa, that sounds so interesting! Wish we had things like that around here.

It's finally October and starting to cool off in Florida. It's been in the 60's every night this week and we've had the A/C off and the windows open. Love, love, LOVE this time of year.

Oktoberfest begins tonight downtown - beer & polka in the streets. What's not to love about that?

My beloved Gators have a much-needed bye week this week, so I'll have to find another team to cheer for.

Alexa, I have never heard of a metalsmith class. That does sound interesting.

Pat, have fun with all that beer and polka.

It is going to be a great weekend here. DH finally gets out of the hospital today after a long 2 1/2 weeks. I am going to spend the entire weekend spoiling him rotten. He deserves it.

I have to work this week end (I do every weekend) but I am also working tonight. I usually don't work Fridays but I am trying to get all the time in that I can before school starts back. Howdie Everyone!! I know I am late being its Saturday evening LOL!! I will raise a glass of water you all!! Yesterday was my day off and Drew had off as well so not wanting to be left out Frank took off as well. It was a grueling week here in our fine city. A cop, a very young cop was killed in the line of duty. Its just so sad. There are no words to express how gut wrenching it was to watch his young widow-5 months pregnant during the viewing. Did I know him?? Gosh you guys are gonna think I have tons of cop friends but honestly I don't but yea I did know him, well I knew him thru my Brother Stephen and his son, my nephew Stephen. I met him and Kim at Stephen Jr's engagement party last October. John was to be in the wedding party. When big Steve was hospitalized last spring, John made sure SIL had a police parking permit as the center city parking was horrendous. Frank says he met him at the hospital but I do not recall that at all. I did go to high school with his aunt. I also have a dear co worker who very suddenly, lost her husband on Tuesday. One minute he was sitting in his chair so Linda headed out to have her after supper smoke, she returned and he was blue. It was a massive heart attack. They were common law husband and wife and from what I have recently learned about it, Pa is not common law friendly. These 2 were very poor. Davey carried no life insurance so Linda was forced to have him cremated. Its still very costly so I have been collecting to help her family out. They have 3 children. Linda is the lady who gave me my dog Gretchen. I have been cooking for them and I plan to stop by with everything tomorrow. So with all this sadness, we decided to get out of dodge and go to a nearby home and garden show, after we went to Ikea. Last week Ikea had a sale on a 3 drawer chest so we popped in but it was so crowded we just got 2 chests and went home. We had a very late lunch and came home. Today I had to work but when I got home I finished my family room painting project!! Now I just have to do a good cleaning and stage the room. Tomorrow I also have to work but I plan to visit my friend early in the day before I go in. There are lots of new listings in and around our target area so Frank plans on taking Drew for a drive to take a look before we ask for a showing...gosh I am just overwhelmed with all the options!! I have a full week of work ahead of me but next week DD has her spring break and she has scheduled her wisdom teeth extraction!! YIKES!! So I plan to take a few days off to tend to her. With any luck she'll be ok by Friday of that week so we can go to the flower show!! Sorry to have such a depressing TGIF here...hopefully next week will bring some better news!! Cheers to you all!! Wow, a whole week? Our usually last a couple of days, unless they are something like murder or armed robbery, something very involved. It's definitely a learning experience, isn't it? I started my Friday with a telephone call at 4:58 am from my sister, telling me the animals were out. Ever try to find a black horse in the dark? LOL Fortunately they come when they are called, so I stood in the field with a nearly full moon shining and called. I had lead ropes and a bucket full of treats as back-up and sure enough, soon I saw shadows coming across the field toward me. A scratch and a pat and they were back where they belonged. The cows were nearly as easy, they'll follow that bucket of treats anywhere, so they followed it right in the gate. By the time the sun came up the hay feeders were full and so was the water tank. I fixed the offending fence and headed home by 7:30, I was only half an hour late for work! The rest of the day went better and today I got taxes done. Refund from the feds, but we owe the state. Just like every other year. I baked bread and molasses cookies, I'm supposed to go finish fence fixing tomorrow but we're supposed to get another foot of snow, perhaps some ice. We'll see. I have Monday off and I'm supposed to take the grandkids to Chuck E Cheese and take Amanda to get her bridesmaid dress fitted. We'll see if Mother Nature has other plans. Annie

It depends on the species and the age of the bird when the migration period actually stops. Latecomers (late-goers?) are typically juvenile birds, late season hatchlings that are still building up strength and body weight for that long trip south. Continue to keep the feeder up and full at least 2 weeks after you last see any birds. Do not think that keeping the feeder going is preventing him from migrating. That is genetically programmed into the bird from countless generations of preceding birds - he will head south when his time is right :-)

Thanks ladies!

My metalsmith class is in the art dept and is basically to learn how to cut, shape, solder precious metals into jewelry and object d'art. I have a few pieces going simultaneously, so I don't have anything finished to photograph yet. When I do, I will post pictures (using Canarybirds guidelines!)

I had a different picture in my mind of a metal smith class. One of my son's and I once took a blacksmithing class together. It was fun figuring out how that was done. Yours sounds fun too.

We are having a gathering of friends for the first night of Sukkot. It will start at my friend's house and move to mine. Last year, we had a theme of Jewish food from North Africa and India. My friend is vegetarian so we do it as a dairy meal and it was fun exploring different Jewish holiday foods (and not long after our cooking forum North African virtual dinner).

This year we are doing Italian Jewish cuisine. We will have the appetizers at her house:
Challah (which my husband is making) and wine of course. She is doing olives, artichokes and mushrooms, and caprese salad. I'm making buricche which are small filled turnovers with an Italian puff pastry - I made the pastry last night and it is waiting in the fridge. The filling will be butternut squash. Also Fagiolini Conditi, a green bean salad.

At our house we will have soups and desserts (the weather has cooperated by turning cool). She is doing a vegetable one and I'm making Zuppa di Cecci. Also farro salad. And crusty bread.

She is making some kind of cookie. I'm making pears with port and stilton (not Italian, but I'd picked that out for
Sukkot when Sharon posted the recipe before we chose our theme and it sounds so good - and a fall fruit dessert is so Sukkot). Also amaretti (we have enough dessert but the butternut squash filling calls for some crushed amaretti and I couldn't find any at the store so I'm making a batch). And a small panforte that I brought back from Italy.

Haven't spent much time planning the drinks. Wine of course.
Also planning on serving hot apple cider - a last minute addition because it has turned so cold in the evenings - also doesn't quite fit the theme but I figured people would want something warm to drink.

It seems like it's been avery long week!

Glad the weekend is finally here, even tho our summer ended very abruptly. Last Sunday it was warm and sunny (about 70F),then about 4pm the wind picked up, the temp dropped to about 48F and it has been cold ever since! LOL

It has been raining since yesterday, so any buttoning up of fall yardwork will have to wait until the rain passes.

Alexa, I would love to take a class like that. Right now, I am just waiting for one of the local bead shops to offer their chain maille class again so I can learn that. But metalsmithing would be a blast!

We should be getting DSL in our area very soon, and as soon as I can surf "high speed" I think I am going to work on getting my jewelry online. I keep making it, so gotta sell it off so I can make more! LOL

Happy weekend, all! I'll clink with a much-needed glass of Pinot Noir later tonight!

Alexa, Supposed to be so nice this weekend here in the east...can't wait to see your finished works!

As for me, as of 4 pm today I am finally on vacation!!

Tonight I am planning a nice quiet supper just Drew, Frank and I taking it easy.
Tomorrow however, begins the work on the lanai. I have already sanded all the poly off the wood paneling-It took FOREVER!! So now I can prime it and begin the white wash effect I an looking for. Frank want to install a plank ceiling in there where I would prefer using the faux tin panels-the jury is still out on that one LOL!

Sat night I am having the in laws over for supper.

Sunday is yard work day. I have about 500 bulbs to plant and some garden beds to turn over.
Sunday night I am having a co worker and her hubs over for supper.

If I get the work done by Tuesday I can begin painting the living room. I am looking for a nice entry table so perhaps a shopping trip is in order.

Wed is Drews neuro day. He'll have ti miss a few hours of school but if all goes well he "may" get the ok to learn to drive so keep your fingers crossed!!

Next weekend is the big wedding of my dear nephew Stephen.
We will leave NJ on Friday and spend the day in Lancaster Pa, then Sat am we will head to Harrisburg where the wedding will be held in the state cathedral...the reception is at a nearby resort where Frank and I will also spend the night.
Sunday the family is hosting a brunch for all who stay over.
Should be a fantastic weekend!!

Linda Ebay is probably an easy way to market jewelry online. I've not done Ebay in years but it was once very fun and easy.

Doing a little metal work of my own and I'll get paid. In the middle of the auto industry collapse I'm working seven day weeks. My work is not as fun as working of jewelry... I'll be making a tiny part that goes in turbo chargers. Making extra house payments with my fat paychecks. Probably a stupid thing to do with the money as I'll lose the house if my job falls victim to the economy.

Currently reading The Last Picture Show. Seems like really bad porn but I'm hooked and have to see what happens in the end.

Feel bad that I'm not around much these days. Good to see old friends and new faces when I pop in for a visit.
