Richard Serra Drawing: A Retrospective
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
San Francisco, CA
If you're in the City by the Bay, check out the comprehensive exhibit featuring drawings from San Francisco native Richard Serra, well known for his massive steel sculptures. The first-ever retrospective exhibition of his lesser-known drawings offers the unique opportunity to see the artist’s work from an entirely new angle. The exhibition traces Serra’s evolving ideas and methods since the 1970s, when he began making wall-size abstractions that altered the relationship between drawing and architectural space. Explore Serra’s earliest sculptures in lead, rubber, and fiberglass and his use of black paintstick, all of which demonstrate the possibilities of the medium and the connection between the processes of sculpting and drawing.
