Should I put valances in my kitchen and family room windows?

Valerie Noronha

I am considering putting up some valances in my kitchen and family room. Right now my family room has wood blinds on 2 windows and an opaque film covering on another 2 transom windows. In the kitchen, I have one window and a sliding door. It is only the kitchen window where I feel I need something as there is a glare from the winter sun--a valance should just about cover it, though another option could be a roman shade. As the rooms are open to one another I would like to have a similar look throughout.

Here is the space as is:

Please ignore the table the TV is resting on as well as the empty entertainment center. We just bought the new TV and have a new entertainment center on order--though it will be the same height as the table the TV is resting on--only wider.

Here are some pics of the valance I am considering:

Please let me know if you like the valance and what windows you think I should use the valance.
