Where do I put the furniture?
Comments (9)It looks like you already have the dimensions to the walls of the bedrooms (a closet would never be included in those dimensions) but I would never trust a dimension on a plan that wasn't computer generated with clearly drawn leader lines. The dimensions shown would be easy to check with an architect's scale. If you don't have one you will need to get one in order to layout the furniture. It shouldn't cost more than $6. The beds usually go against the inside wall that doesn't have a closet. The draftsman should have shown the most likely furniture placement on the plan to help you understand the design. The drafter appears to have placed the windows on the right side wall so they would be symmetrical. This may not be advantageous to the room layouts. I would move the window in the tub area farther away from the shower head and if the bedrooms are tight I would consider not pairing windows or putting them in the middle of the bedroom walls....See MoreWhere do I put my furniture when I have windows on both sides?
Comments (23)Hi Melanie! So, a common way for placing furniture is known as the “floating” furniture arrangement. This keeps the furniture from being against walls and it allows more walking space from one room to the other. This type of arrangement is necessary especially when you have a living room that is as large as your space. This also gives you the opportunity to have more intimate seating rather than seating that can tend to be disconnected and awkward if seating were to be placed against walls within the space. For an example, what if you decide to place furniture against the walls in your space? This is going to make the living space become less functional and awkward due to the furniture being placed far apart from each other. And it will cause people to feel disconnected from one another. Or, this will cause someone to have to move from one area of the room to another, in order to get close to the person they are trying to socialize with. In realty, your space is very large in length, so disconnection between furniture and people could be of concern. Therefore, in order to avoid the -“leaning in to talk or hear someone” scenario, or having to move from one seat to another to converse with others, you should consider furniture arrangements, such as floating furniture, that will allow comfort and good conversation. You also have a beautiful view from your windows, so it is best to avoid placing your furniture directly in front of them. I would recommend placing your tv near the wall that has the smallest window. By understanding where your tv will go, this will serve as a focal point that you want your furniture to be centered around....See MoreWhere should I put the furniture in this room?
Comments (3)The bookcase wall will be quite lovely. The problem with a sectional in the corner is it will likely have part of it's back against the open railing - if that's okay all good. Now what could be done is closing up/drywalling part of that wall to accommodate the sectional Chars w/table/console between could go in front of windows and wall between. Depending on length of sectional. a chair could be used at the end of sectional w/back to bookcase, A pull-up chair would be a good choice. Another option, sofa goes on window wall, chairs on either end of sofa with another set of chairs/with table console in corner. Just throwing this out, yrs back Candice Olson had a similar shaped room with a set of teak bookcases along that back wall that the owner wanted to keep, so Candice put a sofa with chaise perpendicular/ in front of the bookcases--with a walkway to access, with the chaise side near the window so the client could look outside. that wall was nearly all windows. In that scenario, TV would have to go in corner This is the sofa w/chaise I mentioned above...See MoreHelp! Where do I put my furniture?
Comments (15)If you buy smaller sized furniture, or even apartment sized furniture, you will be able to fit a lot more into the space. You also will find that things will fit better in the space in general. The old owners furniture is much too bulky for the space. We also agree that you should look into getting a round dining room table, as it will create ease of access. Here is a design we did for a client that might just help:...See Moresimplify52
