Where should I put the furniture in this room?

We just moved into a new home and our living room has a unique shape. We are starting from scratch and will be purchasing furniture soon, but I have no idea where to start. We would like to put a built in bookcase wall (where our TV would go) against the red wall. Should we put a big sectional in the corner? Help! *We will also change the paint colors, make the trim all around the house white (I think) and definitely get new window treatments/curtains.

Sorry to be a PITA - "a built in bookcase wall (where our TV would go) against the red wall."
You have two walls that are reddish and both could be used for a TV and bookcase Do you mean the staircase area/corner wall?

Do you need to seat a lot of people/guests?

I have a house with an odd shaped living room. It’s fairly open concept, and leads directly into the kitchen as well as the dining room and foyer. I am getting new furniture and would love suggestions on what pieces to get, as well as where to put them! Our TV is currently mounted above the fireplace mantel. I’m not a huge fan of entirely matching furniture sets or Loveseats. The more cozy and conversational the better- but traffic flow is obviously critical! I’m considering 2 couches, or 2 couches the chair and a half, or all/some with 2 velvet accent chairs. I’ve included pics of the room from different angles, the grey couch/furniture I’m looking at, and a quick sketch floor plan! Thanks to anyone who has advice.

Can you return it and get a smaller one? (I admit I think your fireplace wall is lovely and I personally wouldn't ruin it with a television. But I am a tiny minority who has lived without television for almost 30 years.) Is there another room in which to put it, or do you prefer to use this room for watching it?

Annie — there is now just one pillow in the room, so it goes on whichever chair is available! Allison, it’s not inexpensive, but I got it from Room & Board. I also have a small one (20” I think) which I’ve had for years and it’s held up really well — we sit on it, put feet up on it, pile books on it. They’re on casters, which are invisible, so easy to move around. They also come in leather and regular fabrics.

The bookcase wall will be quite lovely.

The problem with a sectional in the corner is it will likely have part of it's back against the open railing - if that's okay all good.

Now what could be done is closing up/drywalling part of that wall to accommodate the sectional

Chars w/table/console between could go in front of windows and wall between.

Depending on length of sectional. a chair could be used at the end of sectional w/back to bookcase, A pull-up chair would be a good choice.

Another option, sofa goes on window wall, chairs on either end of sofa with another set of chairs/with table console in corner.

Just throwing this out, yrs back Candice Olson had a similar shaped room with a set of teak bookcases along that back wall that the owner wanted to keep, so Candice put a sofa with chaise perpendicular/ in front of the bookcases--with a walkway to access, with the chaise side near the window so the client could look outside. that wall was nearly all windows.

In that scenario, TV would have to go in corner
