For me it really depends on the house and the windows and the view. If privacy is not an issue and there's great molding then I prefer to keep the window naked. In that second to the last shot I like the way it frames the window without being in your face. I think that's due to the colors in the fabric which help it blend well yet soften all the hard angles of the cabinets. And the last kitchen, well, when can I move in?

I've made alot of valences over the years but my two latest tricks have turned out quite nice, I took an ordinary white curtain rod, bought a table runner, tied a knot in the center and laid one end of the runner over the rod, the end fold down over the top making a nice pleat, they are not glued, they just stay on, the other thing I like is to take branches and small flowers tie them on a rod, covering it completely, it gives a more airy feeling and you still have the valance look. I just like the face that they let alot more light in.
