I love her blog - it's addicting. Makes me want to go work on a cattle ranch - well, almost, LOL! I think it was jimtex that turned me onto her.

I do not watch PW or RR, except if it's on at the nail salon while I am there. But in defense of the somewhat ordinary type cooking, I usually come away with an inspiration. That's why I come here, why I subscribe to Serious Eats, read cookbooks, why I read the food pages in the paper and why I watch FN. I'm old enough so that I tend to slip into a rut when it comes to meal planning or ideas for appetizers or whatever. Just an inspiration is all I ask. Sometimes PW prepares a dish that I have made in the past (or something similar), and the idea just clicks. Sometimes the TV recipe might be a nice variation of what I already prepare, so I can tweak my recipe. Sometimes I learn a nice presentation. Just because the cooking itself is pedestrian doesn't mean that I (not exactly harried, not a true "enthusiast", either, at least not every day) don't pick up inspiration. When I'm wandering around the grocery store and some clerk asks what I am looking for, I just say "Inspiration." Gets a laugh and they leave me alone.

I also enjoyed the show & am pleased with the outcome. Am I the only one that thought Bobby looked very tired & not quite himself? I know he's been on a book tour for 'Throwdown' & I don't know when the show was filmed so, hopefully, he was just exhausted & not ill. I loved the pommegranite seeds, thought they looked beautiful & I love those things. It was a favorite holiday treat in my stocking as a kid. I'd make such a mess eating them! :) /tricia

Heat, like taste, is subjective. And how much, or how little, depends on the dish it's going into. I haven't watched Pioneer Woman much lately, but back when her show first started, I watched every chance I got. I don't remember ever thinking she was adding way too much heat to anything, but that is something I would automatically adjust to my own tastes if I were following a recipe, hers or anyone else's. I've tried a couple of her recipes. Most of them are, like many of Paula Deen's, just repeats of recipes that have been around for a pretty long time. And that's fine, because they probably are new to many of the younger, newer cooks out there. One I especially like is her recipe for Brussel Sprouts. Even some of my family that would never eat them, gobble them up when I make this dish. I honestly don't remember if I got it from her website or from her TV show. I'll post it in case anyone is interested: Brussels Sprouts with Balsamic and Cranberries (Pioneer Woman) Ingredients: 3 pounds Brussels Sprouts 1/2 cup Olive Oil Salt And Pepper to taste 1 cup Balsamic Vinegar 1/2 cup Sugar 1 cup Dried Cranberries Preparation Instructions: Trim/clean Brussels sprouts, then cut them in half if desired (or you can leave them whole). Arrange on two baking sheets and toss with olive oil. Sprinkle with plenty of salt and pepper and roast at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes, or until brown. Combine balsamic vinegar and sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low and reduce until very thick, about 15 to 20 minutes.Drizzle the balsamic reduction over the roasted sprouts, then sprinkle on dried cranberries. I wanted to try this but realized I didn't have any chocolate chips. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out without the chips. So, I looked online for a recipe that didn’t require chocolate chips and made it for my husband. I didn’t want to make two just in case it was a bust. He really liked it and saved two spoonfuls for me. I thought it was good too. Instead of chocolate chips mixed throughout the batter, it called for a blob of Nutella or peanut butter or Biscoff Cookie Butter plopped in the center. I used peanut butter and reconstituted whole milk powder. I only cooked mine for 65 seconds since my microwave has more wattage than the blog writer’s. I got distracted and didn’t get around to serving it to my husband for about 10 minutes. So, it wasn’t hot. But it was still moist, and the peanut butter was still a bit warm. All in all, I was really quite pleased. It went together quickly and was a tasty treat. My husband thought it was a cross between a chocolate cake and a brownie. The blog writer has other mug cake recipes that I might try too. I like the fact that it was quick, easy, and made a single serving. I just want to go cook in the Lodge kitchen!!!
My kitchen is decent sized, but hers is huge! I envision cinnamon rolls spread from end to end, or cookies cooling, or counters lined with canned goods or ??? The possibilities are endless!

Deanna, you can cook in that gorgeous kitchen....me? I just want to stock and organize the pantry at the lodge! The shelves are "library" quality! The pantry is to die for!

I've made several of the PW's recipes and they have all been really good.

Oh yeah, someone here got me turned onto her blog and now I'm addicted too. I'm so excited our city is going to be on the book tour! But will it be weird to go and meet someone you feel you know so well but not really? I'll get over it and go anyway. Every time we're driving thru rural part of the state, passing lone ranch houses I think of her.

I've never made a bad recipe from her either.
I don't make too many since most start with:
"Melt a cube of butter..."

Not diet food, but good for the splurge times!

I made her apple skillet cake last night. Wow. Huge hit at home and with the co-workers. I did have to give some away since it calls for 2 3/4 sticks of butter and we can't have all of that hanging out at home or I'd eat it. And yeah, the recipe started out with melting butter.
