Painting over primer
Comments (4)Faron -- I did not know this about paint color, but this is good news, since I put on the wall color over the weekend and I am having one of those "oh, no, it doesn't look like the smaple did" moments. At least, in daylight it is much brighter. In the evening, it looks like what I wanted! I will be patient and give it a good week to "settle down." In the meantime, it all came out pretty good. I used a trick I picked up on this site for cutting in the baseboards (used my taping knife). I experimented with a small foam brush for ceiling cut in--while it went faster than the blue tape, it is a bit uneven and I will need to go back and touch up. I do hate that but possibly this is better than drippy blue tape. Anyhow, thank you for the help....See MoreDoing a low budget make over
Comments (13)Valinsv, you hit the nail on the head this is what I'd love to do BUT. I am sticking to a low budget for these reasons. Where I live I could not recoup what we put into the home, the master bath and the pool area needs to be redone also. There are some 2 to 3 thousand new homes being built just in our small town but there are 100's of thousands new homes being built in areas close by. I live in Texas where there is plenty of land and they have started using it for new homes. The new homes go for anywhere from the 100 thousand to 500 to a million in my area. Our home cost 128 thousand it was a steal cause it was an estate sale where the bank was selling it and all they wanted was their money back. The most I want is for it to look better than it does now. BTW, DH is not handy for handyman work around the house, he does not have the skills. I can't do the work due to back problems, I try to do as much as I can but it takes me forever to get them done. Now my son has the skills but no time for mom's wish list LOL. He's busy with his own life and rightly so, he does help out when he can and he's a dear for the thing's he does for me. There is a breakfast nook on the other side, it is small but useable. Wish HGTV could come to my house LOL....See MoreRemoving 'Popcorn' Ceiling
Comments (31)Just FYI. Popcorn ceiling is done different ways. Some used styrofoam, some perlite, some foam bits. My sisters house, I helped roller brush her kitchen was done with ground up drywall/plaster chunks we found out. We ended up scraping it off because it immediately turned to mush when painted and fell off. Never did find out for sure it there was asbestos, we didn't even think or know about that. She ended up getting ceilings painted with a sprayer by professionals a few years later, was not willing to have the whole house scraped....See Moreworried after DIY asbestos popcorn ceiling removal
Comments (1)Even professionals do not do a perfect job. If you wore the correct respirator, and have cleaned everything up correctly, you now have a house without friable asbestos in the ceiling. Get a test if you want. "Background" air tests are known to have come back positive even when sampled from outside....See Moresunnyca_gw
