Dramatic Ceilings
Sometimes in decor, we forget to think about the ceiling design. Each of the homes featured here is a bit of a drama queen. These ceilings command us to look up, take notice, and laud them! These architects have shunned drywall and (ugh) popcorn, celebrated beams and wood, and added the perfect light fixtures to enhance the ceilings even more.
If you happen upon a dark, claustrophobic interior, think beyond ripping out the walls and consider the ceilings. In some cases you may be able to go all the way up to the roof. In other cases the foot you may gain from taking down drywall and looking at beams will make all the difference in the world.

More lovely beams. If I knew more about structure, I could tell you what the name of it is - does anyone know? The only thing I know is a flying buttress!
This is a kitchen makeover. Imagine how much smaller and darker it would seem with a drop, drywalled ceiling.
This is a detail shot from the same kitchen in the image above.
There's a great relationship between the lines on this ceiling and the lines on the chimney.
Using boards like this is a wonderful way to add warmth to a modern room. This aesthetic also adds to the treehouse feel of the office.
While the Hillside house can be classified as contemporary, elements like this ceiling add a traditional cozy feeling.
