My dishes are in a drawer 36" wide and 18" deep. Silverware is in a smaller drawer right above the dishes. The drawers are right below the pass-through between my kitchen and my dining room. I can post photos this evening, if you would like.

my everyday will be in the last cabinet right above and slightly to the right of the DW and will be the closest cabinet to the table. The silverware will be in the drawer in the island directly opposite that.

My dishes are mostly on open shelves above the dishwasher and sink area. The largest of the soup plates are 12" across and they are in the glass fronted cabs on the other side of the kitchen over the baking/prep area. The sliverware is in a 30" wide drawer right there too. We plate our meals before heading to the DR to eat so this works well for us. Everything is reachable from the cooking area and the plates/ bowls are set out and filled and lined up on the long baking counter and the silverware is already on the DR table so it is a pretty seamless process. My dishes go in two 36" drawers in the island which is across the aisle from the dishwasher. When the d/w drawer is pulled open, I can unload the dishes right into the drawer with barely a pivot motion. There's very mininmal effort - and no stretching! - on my part to unload and put away. We eat most meals at the island, so place setting is also very convenient. I love having the dishes right there. One drawer holds large and small plates and small bowls, 12 each, and the other holds larger bowls of mixed sizes. The drawers are lined with Cushy Cupboards, so everything stays in place inside the drawers.

Our everyday dishes are in the upper cabinet closest to the dishwasher. Not quite above but slightly to the right so you can stand to the right of the dishwasher and place the dishes above you. And there are on the lowest shelf so that our youngest child can still reach them. The cutlery drawer is the top one in the drawer bank underneath this china cabinet. This location is also just two steps away from the table.

For me it's more important that dishes be by point of use than by the DW. The kitchen dishes, glasses and flatware are all together in a snack area by the fridge and MW, within easy reach of the seating. The casual but company worthy stuff is in the same place (can be used as spares in the kitchen), which is also easy access to the DR. That's something that works really well that I'm trying to keep for the new kitchen.

WE had our dishes in overhead cabinets in the old set up and the drawers are so much better.

Dishes in the corner cabinet and glasses/mugs in the wall cabinet over the peninsula. DW is more or less between them. We didn't have much choice where things go, really, since the space is small and we had to put things where they would fit, but we're finding this arrangement works very well both for use and cleanup purposes!

For me, my dishes and silverware are close to the dishwasher -- which in turn is next to the sink. In fact next cabinet, in the same line. Cups and drinkware is on the overhead cabinet. However since my kitchen is separate from dining (my peeve with the current design), it is a short walk to the dining table when I set the table. Yet, I would not sacrifice the convenience of keeping dinnerware close to the dishwasher, for being close to dining!

For me, this setup is not too bad because I do not set the table very often! :-) We carry our plates to the table when we eat there. On the occasions that I entertain, I take out the plates etc. to the dining area ahead of time.

My silverware drawer is 24" wide (love that width). Everyday dishes and glasses/mugs are in 2 X 21" cupboards above. Will be in leaded glass doors, so not 'too' visible. They are all to the right of the DW. Can stand and unload easily.

All we have is everyday dishes. They are on open shelves over the sink. The single DishDrawer is just to the left of the sink. The flatware drawer is just to the right of the sink. I usually plate the food on the countertop immediately opposite the sink in our tiny galley kitchen. From there it's just 5' to the dining table.

Mine are in two 33" drawers located between the DW and the eating areas. Silverware is in a 24" drawer in the island which is across from the everyday dishes and DW.
