Do You have Western Wear?

I am planning to go to the Houston Rodeo when our Friends "Rascal Flats" are featured. So I have been looking at Western Wear. Boy has it changed. I have a Rhinestone Belt, but I didn't realize it was considered Western. LOL! I look awful in a hat, but I'm still looking.

Actually, we have enough Western Type Parties and stuff that I could justify a new set of Western Wear.

Oh, I thought you meant working western wear, ya know jeans, sh*t kickers, and a worn shirt. ;0)

On the other hand I have a black hat with a red ribbon rose on it (I think that's outta style though) several three tiered skirts, and the "makes ya look slimmer" blouses and one or two brush popper shirts, Rockies and ropers from Justin. That whatcha mean? I don't have a rhinestone belt, I have a cheap coin belt - what a pain that is in the airports lol.

Now aren't you glad ya asked?

BTW I love Rascal Flats, they just make me snap my fingers and keep time with my shoes lol. Be sure to take lots of pictures and have a good time ;0)

I still have a satin cream colored western shirt I made when we lived in Butte MT. I embroidered variegated yellow to orange flowers and lt to dk green foilage, on the front and back yokes, with pearl snaps down the front and cuffs. It is so pretty and I'm so proud of it. Even though it doesnt fit any more, it is probably a size 8 and I'm a size #@$%^% now. I still keep it. Dottie

Insecticides and fungicides may be dangerous in different ways. That does not necessarly mean that one is less toxic than the other (in the long run). Some pesticide problems may not show up for many years and in a way unexpected such that that "route" was never tested for. The following recent research scientific paper is just one example of "the unexected/not tested". Title: Combined exposure to endocrine disrupting pesticides impairs parturition, causes pup mortality and affects sexual differentiation in rats Authors: P. R. Jacobsen, S. Christiansen, J. Boberg, C. Nellemann and U. Hass Authors affiliation: Department of Toxicology and Risk Assessment, National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark, Søborg, Denmark Published in: International Journal of Andrology, volume 33, pages 434��"442, (2010). ABSTRACT: "Risk assessment is currently based on the no observed adverse effect levels (NOAELs) for single compounds. Humans are exposed to a mixture of chemicals and recent studies in our laboratory have shown that combined exposure to endocrine disrupters can cause adverse effects on male sexual development, even though the doses of the single compounds are below their individual NOAELs for anti-androgenic effects. Consequently, we have initiated a large project where the purpose is to study mixture effects of endocrine disrupting pesticides at low doses. In the initial range-finding mixture studies, rats were gavaged during gestation and lactation with five doses of a mixture of the fungicides procymidone, mancozeb, epoxyconazole, tebuconazole and prochloraz. The mixture ratio was chosen according to the doses of each individual pesticide that produced no observable effects on pregnancy length and pup survival in our laboratory and the dose levels used ranged from 25 to 100% of this mixture. All dose levels caused increased gestation length and dose levels above 25% caused impaired parturition leading to markedly decreased number of live born offspring and high pup perinatal mortality. The sexual differentiation of the pups was affected at 25% and higher as anogenital distance was affected in both male and female offspring at birth and the male offspring exhibited malformations of the genital tubercle, increased nipple retention, and decreased prostate and epididymis weights at pup day 13. The results show that doses of endocrine disrupting pesticides, which appear to induce no effects on gestation length, parturition and pup mortality when judged on their own, induced marked adverse effects on these endpoints in concert with other pesticides. In addition, the sexual differentiation of the offspring was affected. This as well as the predictability of the combination effects based on dose-additivity modelling will be studied further in a large dose-response study." -------------------------------------------- The first part of the INTRODUCTION SECTION of the full paper may be of interest: "Animal laboratory experiments have shown that in utero exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) including some pesticides can cause adverse effects on male reproductive development (Foster, 2006; Gray et al., 2006; Hass et al., 2007; Metzdorff et al., 2007; Christiansen et al., 2008). Individual pesticides alone have so far not been shown to contribute to adverse human effects at relevant exposure levels. However, some studies indicate increased prevalence of cryptorchidism and decreased penile length in sons of women working as gardeners or Many EDCs have been found as mixtures in humans (Blount et al., 2000; Swan et al., 2005), including children (Brock et al., 2002; Swan et al., 2005; Main et al., 2006). Damgaard et al. (2006) observed an association between congenital cryptorchidism and the levels of certain organochlorine pesticides in mothers’ milk (Damgaard et al., 2006). Earlier, Pierik et al. (2004) identified paternal exposures to pesticides and smoking as factors associated with these congenital malformations. These initial observations in epidemiological studies points in the same direction as laboratory experiments with oestrogenic or anti-androgenic chemicals in which substantial mixture effects occurred even though each individual chemical was present at low, ineffective doses (Rajapakse et al., 2002; Silva et al., 2002; Hass et al., 2007; Metzdorff et al., 2007; Christiansen et al., 2008, 2009). Some pesticides such as vinclozolin and procymidone antagonize competitively the androgen receptor (AR) binding of androgens and affect mainly the reproductive development in male offspring (Kelce et al., 1997; Ostby et al., 1999). Other pesticides such as mancozeb and propineb act mainly via disruption of the thyroid hormones and are mainly suspected to disrupt brain development (Hurley, 1998; Hass & Axelstad, Personal Communication). Our detailed research on prochloraz, combined with studies on other azole fungicides such as tebuconazole and epoxyconazole, indicates that these pesticides have the ability to react through several endocrine disrupting mechanisms, and to induce various endocrine disrupting effects (Vinggaard et al., 2005a,b; Taxvig et al., 2007). We have shown that prochloraz induced anti-androgenic effects in rats in vivo in a Hershberger test as well as in a developmental toxicity study (Vinggaard et al., 2002, 2005a). In addition, our studies show that prochloraz increases gestation length and indicate that prochloraz may also affect thyroid hormone levels and cause effects on the sexually dimorphic development of the brain (Vinggaard et al., 2002, 2005a). Both tebuconazole and epoxyconazole increase gestation length and pup mortality and furthermore, these pesticides virilise female pups, and affect steroid hormone levels in foetuses and ⁄ or dams (Taxvig et al., 2007)."

I wear old jeans and t-shirts unsuitable for anything else. I rarely wear shorts as I cannot stand dirt at the back of my knees. Also always a baseball cap. I try to remember the sunscreen too but sometimes forget. I usually carry a bandana around to wipe my eyes if I get sweaty(which I do ). I wear last years hiking boots on my feet and always with socks. My pruners are clipped to my jeans in a holster, my pocket knife in my pocket and a pencil behind my ear. I try not to lose my gloves but it happens often. In fact I lost my right glove in the front yard and my left in the backyard on Sunnday! My mom came home from dinner and found them. I don't need sunglasses, my bifocals have transition lenses. I also use a kneeling pad for my bad knees. I tried the ones you wear but found the straps to be uncomfortable at the backs of my knees. When I worked landscaping for a living 20 years ago I had several sunscreen shirts. They were pricey but very nice. I have since not only aged but also expanded and they went to the goodwill years ago. My neighbors all think I'm a little off anyway when I'm talking to my flowers or out at the crack of dawn pollinating. So it dosen't really matter how I dress.LOL! Kim

I have a large skull (? big head) and cannot find women's hats to fit my head well. The slightest breeze blows them off my head, and men's hats look too masculine, though I have sometimes been forced to wear them. I had a melanoma removed about 22 years ago, and have to stay out of the sun. I finally found a great fabric wide-brimmed hat at a local nursery, but I left it wet and rolled in a ball in my trunk one day and it mildewed beyond what I was prepared to deal with. Now I am on the hunt again for a good hat that fits. I try to do most of my gardening in the shade and cool of the evening after 5:00 pm, and that helps a lot.

I am one that would love to wear dresses. When I worked at a day care center during the school year and summer, I almost always wore a dress. Most of them were either cotton or denim, I know that they weren't the most flattering, empire waist and just flowed down, but boy were they so much cooler. I would spend most of the afternoon outside watching the kids play and it was also easier to chase after the kids in a dress. I would ususally wear either keds or sandals with them. Now that I stay at home with the kids, I haven't worn a dress in forever, but I just bought a new one at Goodwill yesterday that is so cute and long, just need a reason to wear it, it is a maternity one, but with a tie back in the back that I can wear it after the baby comes. When I taught school,I wore lots of dresses and kind of miss those days, but with 3 under the age of 5 and one more on the way it is easier with shorts or capris and with the messes they wash better. I have a pair of black cowboy boots but haven't worn them in years. Nothing else though that would be considered western, except maybe a belt or two.

Marilyn do you ride English?

Zipper, you're from TX. We met Gary Levox at Lake Sommerville last Summer. We couldn't get our boat off of a sandbar and he and his crew shoved us off. We didn't know who he was for a while. After visiting with him for a while we asked what business he was in. LOL! Honestly, I had never heard of Rascal Flatts. But, the young girls with us went wild. I just thought it was a local band. He is so nice and polite and well "country". They were camped next to us, just ordinary folks.

We kept in touch. Next thing you know we see him on Television accepting a Grammy.

I used to have a pair of boots. DH got them for me. They were to narrow, so I sold them in a garage sale. I have lot's of jeans. Also lots of turquoise jewerly that was my DH. (rings & watch bands). But now the only hats I have are red.

Nothing pretty any more. Boots, jeans and tshirts for working in the barn. DD on the other hand. She's a horse crazy 10 year old, she loves her western wear. lol

Obviously I don't wear it but my western saddle has been sitting near the pc all day. (great saw horse, huh?) I might watch the Ellen Show and clean it up , then again, I dunno. Even my horse has her own westen stuff.

I'm sure your going to have a great time at the concert. I love Rascal Flatts! (and it has to soooo much warmer than where I am!!)

Our little town parade is this weekend. I hope the Spanish Riders are in the Parade this year. Talk about Fancy Horsewear, lots of flashy Silver Conchos.

The Saddle looks pretty shiney to me.

Bling is the big thing in western wear these day.
Far too bling-gy for me but my girls love it!

Rhinestone belts, colored ariat fat boots and shiny vests.
I noticed fake fur is popular on the winter vests and coats this year. My oldest daughter got a beautiful purse with a holder to display her trophy belt buckles. Both of them though, still wear their black felt and palm leaf hats.

I'm more traditional.
I like straight legged wranglers, plain or mild plaid/checked button downs (hubby demands snaps) and good leather booths with a rider's heel. My hat of choice is my black resistol felt but that's only because my silver belly steson fell apart and my palm leaf got slammed in a trailer door...

LOL! Lori you pictures are too fun not to post!

My DD hates the bling - she does the "working cow horse" type of shows and they don't let any bling in. She is pretty conservative - plain white shirt and jeans - but she won't wear the "Mom pant" wranglers - she just gasps and giggles at the thought. She does like her Queen buckle - she is pretty proud of that one.

I think those Baby Fat boots are so darn cute - but she won't wear them - only plain brown Justin lacers.

I did when I was 3 yrs old. My sister made a good victim.

Did I post my picture from last weekend when I rode DS #3's horse? I was wearing a warm-up suit and athletic shoes. LOL I wear jeans a lot, but haven't had cowboy boots in years. I could never find a pair that was comfortable.

Yup! 8 pairs of boots with felt hats to match and 3 Shady Bradys. DH worked part time for a country band in the 90's up in NH for 4-5 years as the sound technician. They traveled up and down the eastern seaboard and out to CA several times. They opened for people like Kitty Wells, Wayland Jennings, Tanya Tucker and many others. We had lots of fun but band life is tough.

Have a great time at the concert and take lots of pics.

Not like what you're showing. I have boot cut Levis and Wranglers, some snap front shirts, Double H Lacers (most comfortable boot I've found), and my only western bling would be several (cheap) red cowboy hats for Red Hatting. I also have some silver and turquoise jewelry.

Bright western wear! I love it. Lori, you and your camera take great action pictures. You first picture brings back some awesome memories of my last horse Casper. A total nut case, terrific in the arena. Good times!

Jesse and Digger look like they are working it! You can tell they are lovin what they are doing.Your girls are going to enjoy all these pictures even more when they have their own family.

I watched some team roping on TV, Sunday. What's with the huge earrings and bling? One gal had huge hoop earrings. How things have changed in 35 years.

I just hope the bling-fashion passes soon. It looks trashy to my but what do I know? I'm a slightly overweight, 51 one year old with frizzy hair and bad knees. LOL

Those hoops earring scare me.
I worry they're gonna get something hung up on it and tear their ears.
LOL

My girls do love what they do and I love it too.
I've learned it is far more satisfying watching my kids compete than it ever was for me. My husband and I have GOT to get out of the habit of making horses for our girls.

We've got two five year old horses I've started on the barrels and I don't know why I did.
LOL

Custer said, when I told him I had Booger and Nancy patterned good, 'What are you thinking? I thought these two horses were for OUR old age?"

It's my favorite-so-far of the Hemster.
Jesse has been working with him for three years and he's starting to come on in the barrel racing world.
Jesse is too impatient for this horse training stuff...so was I at twenty. She wants it all to work and to all work NOW. Unfortunately, making a barrel horse is like making a marriage...it takes time, hard work and a lot of forgiveness of everybody's part. Good thing Hemi is very forgiving...LOL

Now you've seen how fashion savvy my girls are.
I often wonder where they came from?
My idea of high fashion is a pretty pair of earrings and eye makeup...LOL
