I also received one for Christmas (Apple Cinnamon).
One of my guest rooms I keep closed and it smells, well, closed.

I put it in that room and if you have seen the Febreze commercial,
where they can't function because they keep their nose in the sofa, car, carpet etc, thats me.

At least once a day I open that door and stick my head in.
It is wonderful!

Now I have to go buy one for every room !

I have been using Nina Campbell's Citron that I have been getting at Stein-Mart for a year or two now and I like that. Some fragrances give me headache while others give me asthma. Everybody has something they cannot tolerate; that is the one I can and I like the diffusers. Do not use candles at all unless they are soy.

how well do they work in an open room (no door to close)?

I love them, too. I buy the Tuscan Herb (my all time favorite fragrance, I think) from Pier I. I have one on my computer desk, which sits between the living room and music room areas, and unless you are really close, you don't get much of the fragrance - just a hint. One in the bedroom on my side of the bed, and I love the gentle scent it gives.

Over thanksgiving time, I bought some dried wheat stalks, and added a few of those to each jar for a seasonal effect. They looked wonderful, and took up the fragrance oil just as the reeds did.

Just so you know, pier 1 sells diffuser reeds by themselves in a box, so you could add them to your own container with fragrance oils that you supply yourself.

I used to put a drop of essential oil directly onto a light bulb. I just loved the scent when I turned the light on.

However, since I got parrots I stopped all that. Fumes that are harmless to us can kill birds within seconds. Hazards include scented aerosol sprays and other spray chemicals, essential oils, scented candles, teflon pans, wet oil-based paints and anything using pine scenting. thought I'd mention this here in case any of you have birds and didn't know.

Why only soy candles?
I bought a diffuser for a "stale" smelling area in the house and I'm happy too. I resisted the urge to buy "cheaper" and instead bought where I could smell the fragrance first. I was happy with the pomegranate that we bought at Pottery Barn. It cost more, but it was worth it! I find too many fragrances overwhelming--if you remember my "rant" topic!

I recently saw a post on here somewhere that you can use the bamboo bar b q sticks ( cut off the ends ) and the oils from Bath and Body for a great fragrance with much less expense.

I use the Basil/Lemon essential oil in the copper diffuser, It only takes 3-4 drops and the lovely fresh scent is all over a 4000 sq ft home in minutes. I have several family members who are allergic to other scents and this does not bother them. C.

Does anyone know a brand of oils that can be used with the diffusers - I like vanilla, cinnamon, spice - and a subtle smell, not overpowering. I already have the diffuser and the reeds.

A little OT, but I bought a soy candle while on vacation last year - by Swan Creek Candle. The fragrance is Sandalwood Vanilla, and it is wonderful. Don't let the vanilla throw you, it smells nothing like vanilla. The best part is it smells great even when unlit. I put it in the foyer and everyone comments on it when they enter our home. In fact, I just placed an order yesterday for my sister, mom and I.

Also, for a much cheaper price, the Glade Puffer does a really good job. Just hard as heck to find the refills.

I bought some reed diffusers from Pier One and the fragrance did not last long at all. Maybe mine was an old batch (they were on sale.)

Wodka, I have bought some that did not last nor absorb but the Nina Campbell diffusers work perfectly for a long time. I paid just as much for the ones that did not work as Nina Campbell's line. I was just trying them out at the time and found that not all diffusers are created (or at least work) equally.

What a GREAT idea!

(Look what you started no-green-thumb!) I took notes of everyone's favorite and headed to Pier 1. Was going to Bath and Body if I didn't find what I wanted at Pier 1. I wandered the store smelling til my smeller got confused...lol. I finally got a 16 oz refill bottle of the citrus/cilantro scent, a set of 3 mini vases in amber, green, and red, and 3 boxes of reeds. I even threw in a decorative flower and a few curlycue reed things. So now I've made 3 diffusers for about $35, one for the guest bath, one for my office, and one for the family room. Sometimes the little things are so much fun. I love this place for ideas :-)

I saw refill bottles in Kohl's today - I don't remember the scent, except I just put it down as I didn't think I would like it.
I love that it is just a hint of scent. I imagine we could get creative and buy oils and make our own.
I have no idea how long a bottle will last. I just opened mine yesterday.
I love the little "extras" you put in your bottles.
I would think the scents are somewhat like candles - some are just yummy and sometimes I smell one in a store and it's a yuck. Thanks for the pic.

I did make a mistake on brand. I just got back home and looked at the bottle of Lemon-Basil essential oil. It is from the Body Shop. I don't care for the scents from Bath and Bodyworks nearly as much as this. I love the bottles that you made from Pier1 and the price is perfect. I will have to give that a try too. THANKS C.

I love these!! I got some real buys after Christmas at Pier 1. I have bought from different places and Pier 1 is the strongest scented ones, I have found. They have a white pomegrante that is wonderful!

mimi, those look great. Are the orange and red vases made of colored glass or are they painted? I'm always on the lookout for red glass bottles, but really hate to drive 2 hours to the nearest Pier1 if they're painted.

Thanks littledog! They are colored glass, not painted. Mine is the "mini" set. They had a set of larger bottles too, all colored glass.
