Pesky, I responded on the Decorating Forum, but had another thought. It addition to the steam cleaner manufacturers warning against additives, there is so little water used in steam cleaning that there would not be much effect. You might be better off making up the lavender water and then spraying or lightly pouring it on the floor towards the end of cleaning the room.

Thanks for the responses. I agree about it being an accident waiting to happen. I will never use it again. I have some unopened that were gifts - two more. I will return them to the stores and if I can't do that, I will regift them or donate them to Good Will. I had not thought of trying to soak up the oil. I will definitely try that. If it does not work, I may go ahead and spill the remainder of the oil on the rest of the table top so at least it will all match. I guess worst case scenario is I would have to sand and restain it. However, it has this really cool darkened finish around the edges of the little round table that I don't think I could duplicate. I will let you know how it turns out. And no, I really don't like doilies!

I have used the "tarts" to scent a batch of soy wax before succesfully making some great smelling candles. Otherwise, the votives work also, just removing the wick. Hope this helps! it is worth a try absolutely!

Be very careful where they are placed as they WILL take off the furniture finish! I had some in the bathroom on a oak finish vanity table a few yrs. ago and after showering, my husband threw his towel up on the shower and in the process knocked over the bottle. When I noticed it later, it had really messed up the top of the vanity and also discolored the tile where it had spilled on the floor. I need to refinish the top yet...maybe in the summer!
