My new Bosch Vision 500 review
Comments (15)I pondered for a looooong time the benefit of steam. In theory it sounds good. If it works as described it would be good. Although, LG is the only manufacturer that states they use "real" steam as opposed to a spray of hot water. Their machines use a "true steam generator" to produce actual steam. I almost think steam makes more sense in the washer than the dryer. LG says this about steam in the washer: The "Steam" option will add steam to the wash portion of the cycle. This adds several benefits: 1. Steam produces more heat and motion energy than water and steam molecules are smaller than water molecules, so the overall wash performance is enhanced. 2. The bonding capability to a stain is greater, so stain removal can be enhanced as well, whereas the stain option only adds more time to the wash. 3. Another reason for steam is that on the non-sanitary cycles, steam adds sanitizing benefits without the energy consumption. And steam uses a little less water. How much will vary from depending on load size. This option is not available on all cycles. What is the temperature range of the steam option? Maximum temperature, from the nozzle, is approximately 98C (208.4oF) and ranging from 60C to 95C (140oF to 203oF) in others areas of the drum. The temperature closest to the nozzle will be warmer than other areas in the drum. While at the Miele Gallery last week I enquired about steam. They told me Miele Germany has tested it and don't feel it's of any real benefit to consumers. However, when I mentioned to them that Germany has a Miele with steam they looked surprised. I can't say I believe Miele. They could easily say that as there "rationale" for not doing steam. Unfortunately the only way to really understand the true benefit of any of these features is to use them. Looking forward to your update! Comments (4)I bought my washer from Lowes in Boilingbrook IL. They were fabulous. I started with a Bosch 700 that was defective. They replaced it with a 500 in less than 48 hours of my calling my salesman. 700s are special order at my store and I did not want to wait 2 to 4 weeks without a washer. After the 500 was installed and leveled, and re-leveled, and re-leveled a couple more times, I realized the problem with vibration and walking was my floor, not that the washer was not level. This was confirmed by a friend of mine who is in construction, my floor is apparently too flexible. So, I called my salesman at Lowes. This was about 2 weeks after the purchase. He said to come on in and they would help me pick a machine that would work better for my situation. His suggestions were the Whirlpool Duet or the Whirlpool Cabrio. He said the Duet has a better suspension system than the Bosch, so it often works better when vibration is a problem. The Cabrio does not have the vibration issues FLers do since it is an HE TLer. I went with the Cabrio. I was assured that if I wanted to try the Duet, if it caused too much vibration they would exchange that for the Cabrio. I decided to go right to the Cabrio. As nice as their delivery people were, I was getting tired of seeing them! The Cabrio has been a great choice for me. I love it, it works great, and it does not vibrate at all, even at top speed (1,000 rpm I believe). So if you think vibration could be a problem, you might want the Duet. And if you go with Lowes, get the extended warranty. It is a small amount for your piece of mind knowing that if you do have a problem you just call the 800 number. Oh yes, Between my initial purchase of the 700 to my ending up with the Cabrio, Lowes lost about $500. They were pleasant, easy to work with, and did everything in their power to make me happy. My salesman still stops to talk with me any time I am in the store and I see him. Don't expect too much from any installer in the way of leveling, they usually just eyeball it and make sure the machine does not rock. Lowes did offer to send out a repair guy to level mine when it became a problem, I just had a friend who knew what to do help me. When you go to the store, make sure they will back the machine, and see how long you have to exchange if you are unhappy with your purchase (as opposed to there being a problem with the machine). My salesman at Lowes said you have 1 month at Lowes, although sometimes the will give you a hard time after a couple weeks. He suggested just putting up a fuss if there was a problem, I did not have to do that....See Morebosch 500 owners--urgent question
Comments (19)When a load gets seriously unbalanced I do hear something like a knocking noise during the spin cycle. It doesn't happen that often, but when it does I usually pause the washer and try to untangle a few of the offending items. (The legs of long pants can get tangled up during the wash cycle and make proper balancing impossible.) How do you load your washer? It is recommended to loosely throw in one (or a few) item(s) at a time instead of shoving in a whole bunch at once (my SIL did that a few times and it did cause an imbalance problem). If the washer itself doesn't move or shake it probably isn't a vibration problem. Hope this helps!...See MoreBosch service call today...my own fault :-(
Comments (3)Years ago I had a similar thing happen to me. I had a TL machine then and washed some bath rugs that had rubber backing on them. Apparently, with age, this rubber backing tends to dry out and become crumbly. I had a mess in my machine, no clogs or problems like you had, but still a mess. I now will not buy rubber backed rugs. I like the cotton bath rugs now and most are reversible too. In my kitchen I use old fashioned rag rugs made from cotton too, so they're easily washed and create no messes in the machine. Sorry about your mishap. Janet...See Moreplumbly22
