Rug help for my LR

After living in this house going on 5 years in Feb. I decided to pay a little attention to my neglected LR! In November, I decided to put some things on the walls and move things around. I "listened" to what Mary Carol Garrity said about getting out your "good stuff", things I have inherited over the years and had hidden away and I added the silk panels. Before all this, the walls were blank and the windows were bare. Only the furniture was there. To "finish it off", I would like to put some sort of area rug in there. I have also thought about creating an area rug by getting a piece of carpet and having it bound. I like the look of a sisal wool in a natural color, but besides that I am really stuck as to what it needs. I looked at the peerless rugs site and also liked the allover damask in a cream-beige. Or a lattice design. Do I leave the floor more neutral or do I bring in the colors in the furniture? Here are some pics of the room to give you an idea. Thanks for your help :)

I see a needlepoint in your room, soft off white with beige and maybe some pastel blue, pastel sage and rosy pink. I would have to look but I think your room is screaming for a needlepoint or Aubuson rug.

bac717 - I used a furniture website room planner to create the floorplan. I found it very easy to use and it allows you to name and save multiple floorplans. The website alows you to print the floorplan as well as email - but in order to get a picture of it - I used a screen capture program (screenprint32 - search on downlaod.com) the screen capture program can be set up to select the area of the screen you want copied and then you can either set it up to print it automatically or set it to save the file. Thank you for all the thoughts and opinions. I don't know if this additional info/pic will help clarify anything for anyone, but here goes anyway. This picture gives you a better idea of the true colors in the current rug. It's not quite that bright IRL, but I am never able to capture IRL photos with my camera. For example, the table you see just a bit of in the pic is much more red, not orange at all. And here is a link to the same CL rug from the Macy's site. If you look at it there, you can scroll over it to take a closer look. I will also add that I have considered going in a completely different direction, as bestyears suggested. I have even thought about simply having a piece of broadloom bound and getting exactly the dimensions I need in that room. I still do have a concern about the larger size of the CL rug compared to the current rug. No one has commented on whether or not they feel the CL rug at 8'8" X 12' would be too large. I think the direction I'm going with this whole make-over, is to find a rug that works with the sofa because that is DEFINITELY staying. Then, after I have a rug, I'll figure out the chairs. No idea about what it costs. It's not going to be cheap, but it'll be worth it. And don't worry about having to slice into a rug in order to be able to use a floor outlet. It's counterintuitive, I know, but you don't have to cut a hole, just a slice. It's under the sofa, so it can't be seen, and if you ever hand the rug down or move it somewhere else, the slice will never be seen. Just make sure you slice with with something VERY sharp so that you can get the cleanest cut possible. A larger rug for that room is worth the slicing, IMO. I would contact Safavieh directly and start there.

Of the ones you posted, I like nos. 1, 5, and 6. I really like 6, but it certainly would take you into the land of "red"; you may have to repaint the red wall in case it clashes, but I'm wondering if you could even paint the accent wall in that blue/gray? 2. in my opinion looks kind of blah 4. is very dark 3. and 7. are nice (I like blues and gray) but definitely would take you into a cool direction and may not work with the red 8. has the action in the middle where your ottoman is. Also, for whatever reason, I find rugs with a medallion more formal and old fashioned. Do you have a Homegoods or TJ MAxx in your area? Also, our local Costco had a sale of Safavieh rugs yesterday.

Love your new panels and the shades with them - I like that look. The room looks very nice. For your rug, I would lean toward something neutral. I think a sisal-type or something with a tone on pattern or texture would be pretty. Having a carpet bound seems like a great solution. My main reason for going neutral is because your foyer rug has much different colors and I would prefer for them not to compete with eachother.

BTW, are those wicker trucks a recent purchase? Do you recall where you got them? I am looking for something like that. One of those things that it seems like you see all the time when you are not looking - now that I'm looking, I haven't seen any! Thanks.

I agree - needlepoint - check ebay. I bought two at 1800getarug.

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, Polkadots, they are trunks I got at Joanne's 2 years ago. I had them in another room, but this room needed a table so I stacked them and put a tray on top. Voila! Joanne's always has stuff like that. I'm sure you could find them. But I know what you mean about not seeing stuff when you want them! The rug in the foyer actually has a lot of the same colors, just deeper. It has rose, green, blue, wine red and yellow.
