TGIF everyone!!

I haven't been around a whole lot lately. Taking eight days off from work is great but catching up is a lot of work. LOL

It's been a very busy month for me and with school and football season starting here in a few weeks it's not going to slow down anytime soon.

I spent last weekend up at the lake so I'm staying in town and prepping for a big party I'm hosting for my nephew in a couple of weeks. He is leaving for boot camp (Marines) in a couple of weeks and we are giving him a big send off. It will be fun and a little sad all at the same time. I've got to get all the extra chairs and tables cleaned up. They have been in the shed since I moved last November. I'll be working on a plan for food, drinks, and entertainment for the day.....that and the normal chores for the weekend.

The dog days of summer are here so I'll raise a cold one to y'all around six....I'll be in the pool!! What's everyone else up to this weekend??

Hello and TGIF to you all!!!

David, I'll meet you in the pool! We've been spending a lot of time in ours too, the water finally got warm enough!

No big plans this weekend, just being lazy and hanging out at home.

There's a new burger joint that opened up near us that I'd like to try tomorrow night but that's really about it!

TGIF!

Shaun and David I hope you enjoy your pool time.

No plans for tonight. Sat. we are attending a benefit concert for Luke Menard of American Idol fame. His medical bills are astronomical and he has many more treatments to go through yet.

Sunday we go to pick up 92 y/o DML and bring her back to our home for the week. A long 8 hour drive total. DH can't go back to work for another week, so she is spending that week over here with us.

TGIF here too. Elery is on his way up for the weekend and he's bringing supper, that's a good thing. Tomorrow we're going out to visit my mother and I'm taking Amanda and the kids with me. Check up on the "old people", aka Dad and Stepmom, and do the regular chores then because Elery wants to go to church on Sunday. He wants to meet my pastor, he's shopping for someone to marry us, LOL. I keep telling him not to rush me.... Lori, no one notices those 10 hour days I put in either, but they sure sit up and mention it when I'm half an hour late because I have a dentist appointment or something, sheesh. They don't manage to add up those late days either, to find out that I worked 60 hours and got paid for 40, they just notice that half an hour. And have I mentioned that I just hate the media anyway? chase, I hope that septic problem is quick and cheap, this time of year, with all that snow, it's going to be a PIA, plus stinky. Ick. Terri, no Trader Joe's? Well, OK, I guess a new couch should make up for it. Michelle, we had 14 inches of snow here too, some is going to have to melt before we have room for any more! The rivers are already high here, it's so cold that the water doesn't soak into the frozen ground and we've already had flood warnings. In February! Yes, if we get a thaw, it'll be exciting all right. duane, I'm glad business is good. I think. (grin) Fish and chips do sound good, though. Annie

Ooops...I started a tgif thread too...GMTA!!! well I will copy and paste here and let the moderators delete my thread. Happy Friday and Happy Graduation to all our forum friends attending graduations and grad parties! Today is supposed to begin a heat wave here in Philly! High 90's for the next few days! YIKES!!! Its so nice out now...just came in for another little cup of joe. I was out admiring the handy work of a few wayward teens. They were bored I guess and they decided it would be so much fun to try to rip down the neighbors railroad tie retaining wall, What they could not rip down they wrote all over with sharpies. I was at work so I did not see anything but I know who it was....there is a bad element here-I suppose most blocks have some sort of problems like this. I think it may be time to take over the block captain job again-the lady who took over for me is not doing a good job-in fact one of her kids is involved with the bad element. On another note...today is Drews last exam. He has short days next week and done on Friday. I will be SO happy to see this year end!! I didn't post too much about it but its been a terrible year for Drew. He just didn't seem to adjust to high school life and my one time honor student is barely passing. Frank and I have been pulling our hair out trying to help him but he is just not motivated. Hopefully after having summer off he'll start 10th grade with a better attitude! Amy and I will hit the gym while he takes his last 2 tests. I am going to try to get my hair cut today too. My "girl" has gone out on early maternity leave so for this cut I may just go to a hair cuttery type place for a trim. Her baby is due in July so I'll have to have another trim befor she returns in Sept-Oct. Tonight I was invited to see my co-worker off to his prom. A co workers prom you ask?? Yes a prom! Theres a young boy who is really a cool kid. Turn out he is Charles BEST friend!! so my co worker is taking Charles sister (my great step neice) to the prom!! Charles does not want to go-more on that later. After that I was invited to a jewelry demonstration. I do not wear a lot of jewelry but I'll go and see...maybe I will get a jump start on holiday shopping?? Tomorrow I have to work early but I also get done early which is good as its the block clean up and I need to be here LOL!! Someone has to talk some sense into these people! LOL!! No really the block needs a good cleaning and we as a community have to work together to make this a safe neighborhood. Tomorrow night Frank and I are going out to dinner...nothing to celebrate really, well maybe celebrate just getting thru the past year LOL!! Sunday is Pocono Race day. The guys get up before the crack of dawn and set up camp on the infield of the Pocono Racetrack and watch the race. I went once and vowed to never go again!! LOL Its LOUD!! However I do help him get ready so he doesn't forget anything. I will no doubt have to work but I will treat myself to something sinful for dinner!! WTG Brendan! Lori, is that the good news in his future you alluded to in Support #7 or is there something more? Lyra, it has been so hot here (Ellen how did everyone get through graduation!!!) that we still had the A/C on at 9:30 at night. More today and tomorrow. Yesterday I took DS #1 to the DMV to take his written provisional driver license test. He passed, dang. California requires six hours profe$$ional driver training, and that starts next Saturday! Clear the roads! Tonight I go to my High School 30th reiunion. I have't even been to one of them. I contacted someone I used to be freinds with and we're looking forward to hooking up again. I'm leaving DH at home - why do people take spouses, they will only be bored! I'm going with a synagogue member - someone connected the dots for us. We never knew each other in high school, but interact a lot now. Small world. Tomorrow I dump DS #2 off at computer camp. Heh heh. Buh-bye! Trying to stay cool. It will be record breaking HOT here this weekend, so hot I didn't make a challah yesterday, I didn't want to turn on the oven. Yikes! Clink with iced tea!

Well, TGIS. The heat has let up here in Brooklyn so I went to the park with my son. The intention was just to get in a walk before the heat ratcheted up again, but when we got as far ass the Boat House we found the Park Rangers putting canoes in the Lull Water - free for anyone who wanted one. Well off we shoved! The surface of the water was covered in bright green Duck Weed, evidently a byproduct of the floride in the water and photosynthesis. It is pretty once you understand that it is a natural process and not some form of pollution. We glided over lily pads with yellow blooms,and past duck families, little turtles, and under a lovely overpass. We kept our distance from the swans because the rangers warned us that they tend to attack the canoes. We watch Canada Geese landing and taking off in and over the water. The clouds were forming overhead for a heavy rain shower and we returned to the boat house just minutes before the deluge. My son left to meet a friend and I got soaked on the walk home but it was well worth it. Imagine, I live in the middle of an urban environment and took a walk through the woods, past waterfalls and over a lake and then rowed a canoe across lily pads to where the turtles, ducks, geese and swans make their homes. Its a wonderland and I feel very lucky to live here. At home we had a simple lunch of bottled borsht to which I added home roasted beets and a dollop of yogurt; rye bread, cheese and a little smoked salmon. Simple but perfect. Now its time to take an afternoon nap and see friends this evening. I'll raise my iced coffee glass for a clink-clink and happy, peaceful weekend to all.

Another friday! Whew...time flies when you are having fun. Another nice weekend here. Tomatoes are just starting to come in and the sweet corn is in so I grabbed a dozen ears and want to try taking some off the cob and blanching and freezing. Never done it before, but I bought the tool to do that several years ago and it's still in the package.

Only 3 dogs here this weekend and just a few misc in-home visits. Should be kind of laid back. I'm reading some good books and spending my down-time in the backyard. Cold beverage and a book. My kinda free time. With this weather I haven't spent a single moment with my big screen t.v. and surround sound package I bought last year. Plenty of time for that in the winter.

Hope everyone has a super weekend and I might crack open a hard ice-tea in about an hour!

Enjoy that pool David! You too Shaun. I do need to get a tan on my legs - I have "farmer's tan" right now - arms only!

Tonight is a ping pong lesson. I'm doing a pilates class in the morning, then grocery shopping and errands. Maybe some pool time in the afternoon. Oh, both our cars need washing too.

Sunday is ping-pong then I'm grilling baby back ribs for some friends.

Clink to everyone from me too! Mine is just cold bubbly water for the moment.

I could join you in your pools Shaun and David. Weather is warm and humid here and I have a busy weekend beginning to get the house ready before going on holidays. We have a house guest arriving soon and I have to clear out the past months' collection of stuff that has accumulated in his guest room. So I'll start getting clothes ready for the trip and will be buying a few small gifts.

Must make a tour around the garden and check out some cuttings of pink brugmansia that I planted.
They seem to have all taken root and are sprouting leaves.

Oh how nice that would be, a pool party at David's...I'm in!

Great start to my weekend. Janet and Chance were here for the day! We "did" downtown Oakville, stopped at the ice cream shop for Chance and Whole Foods for Janet and I. Back here for a sprinkle run for Chance ( no pool!) and a glass of wine for the big kids.

Had dinner and some more chat but they had to get away early to drive back into Toronto. We had a really nice visit, really nice.

Tomorrow is my niece's bridal shower, then directly up to the cottage for a few days. Back down on Wednesday becasue Meredith is due home. Then back up on Thursday for a week or so.

David it must be so hard to see your nephew go off to boot camp. My best thoughts and prayers go with him. Hopefully this darn war will soon end.
