Happy TGIF everyone.

We are happy campers here since we got our power back on yesterday. Our only plans for the weekend are for more clean up from the Sunday storms. We lost our garage and laundry room, both cars, washer & dryer,and the deep freezer due to a neighbors tree coming down on our house. At least the living areas of our home escaped damage this time. Those were damaged in the June storms.

I am clinking with my cold diet Pepsi.

Ihave lots of power here. My weekend will be spent going through more of Dad's papers, canning tomatoes, making grape jelly and packing sauerkraut.

I need a bit of "normalcy" right now, so canning is going to take all of my Saturday. Back to the farm on Sunday, and I have to help the Monkey Princess make treats for her kindergarten class. Something "healthy" and "not too messy". (grin)

Maybe peanut butter granola bars, or those peanut butter based cereal treats. Thankfully, not a single child in her class of 25 has any food allergies.

Clinking with a beer!

Took the day off work to put a water pump on my truck. Last one only lasted 60,000 miles. Cheaper then a new truck I guess. Waiting for the engine to cool down so it is safe to work on.

Probably mow some grass later and maybe a trip to the bar tonight. Working the weekend. Started my day with a long angry e-mail to our top manager so it will be ugly when I get back. Some of my guys were wrote up because managers didn't have time to meet with them for the last two years. Makes me angry because all they have to do is ask and my guys will do... simple as that. Now I have a bunch of workers that are frightened and angry. Great teamwork from our support staff.... not!

Maybe I had better switch to whiskey.

Foxes, What pretty containers for your forced bulbs. I can almost smell the hyacinths now, and look forward to future pics...hint hint. My Mother always said a little dirt never hurt anyone: it builds a good strong immune system. :) Donna, I agree, but the dirt here is the house isn't like good ole outside dirt. If it was, I could just run the sweeper and be done with it...sigh. EEEWWWWWW the dreaded sister visit. I LOVE my sister, but at her house not mine. For years and years, I was the one to go visit her at 'her' house, which is why she hasn't been here in so long. Goodness you have a wonderful and talented BIL. Congrats on finishing, Chemo. Thanks Newbie, but now I can no longer say I am done, since I bought more bulbs recently. (Note thread I was hopeless at the $1 sale yesterday Sue, I liked how you covered all your bases by calling this the 08/09 planting thread. Do you plan on going over into '09? Well it was not my intentions to still be planting in 2009, but thought others might still be. Now it seems I will be planting myself in Jan 2009...sigh. Sue...off to clean something

Good Morning, I didn't even get on the scale yesterday. Was busy from the time I hit the floor 'till I hit the bed. Dstep-son is moving back from Fla. He arrived night before last and I had about 8 for dinner. Lots of talking and music. Everyone in DH's family plays some kind of musical instrument. When I weighed day before yesterday I showed a large gain, so I was scared to weigh yesterday, even if I had remembered to do it before I ate breakfast!! This am I'm at 163. Man, that was close!! Must have been some water retention as well as that chocolate ice cream Sunday night. Gotta get my low carb cookbooks back out. I'm bored with the same old - same old. Silver, we want details Girl! How was the wedding? Did you knock them down with the new you? What did they say? We've been waiting a week for this. Spill it all!! Helen, I'm with everyone else. A loss is a loss and I would be happy to get it. I bought the old type scale and can't see it too well in the mornings, so I just go by pounds. But, I would gladly count .s if I could. After all of that pampering from Hubby I would have lots of + .s!!! Is that foot all well yet? Ek, those scales are going to make you beg for the 130s! Don't ya just hate having to kick and scratch for each new goal. I about passed out when I saw that big jump on the scale day before yesterday. I had only eaten a few fried apples (sweetened with a little splenda) and a large helping of lima beans for dinner the night before and couldn't believe the jump. The limas must have really bloated me up. Thank God it went away! Talking about thighs. UGH!! With the weight loss my thighs keep moving even after I've stopped moving! Gotta start those dreaded thigh tightening squats soon. Jas, It is so great to hear positive comments from others to spur us on when trying to lose weight. Especially when we hit a little bump in the road that tends to depress us. That bump can't stop you now. Gotta run. Have a great day, Betty

Congratulations! My neighbor just had a new baby Wednesday and my niece is expecting in June - babies are a poppin! This will be the first "great" grandchild on my side of the family - there are 5 on hubby's side already. My mom is the only grandparent left and she's very excited about being a great grandmother. My neice and my two kids are the only grandchildren on my side of the family as well, so this is a treat. My kids aren't even close to settling down so this will be the only baby for a while!! Spring is a wonderful time to have a baby as well! Enjoy her! I'm going to try to get a little done in the yard tomorrow if the weather cooperates. It's still too cold to get anything done besides cleaning up leaves and stuff, but that has to be done as well. I'm making a huge new veggie bed this year so I have to get going and get as much done as I can, when I can! I might have bitten off more than I can chew with all the seeds I have going, but I guess I'll soon find out! My girlfriend is coming over tomorrow night to fix some jewelry - I have lots of bits and bobs for jewelry making. I want to make some bread in the morning, get some done in the yard, then get back in the house to make dinner for when she comes over. I made some home made mushroom ravioli at Christmastime and I've yet to actually have any. That's what I plan on having for dinner. It's going to pour out Sunday, so I'll probably work on the scrapbook my SIL asked me to do up for my niece's baby shower. I've never worked on one before, but it's coming out nice considering I'm just fumbling my way thru! It's amazing the stuff they have for that now - I ended up buying a couple books and plan on re-doing the books I made for my own kids who are now 21 and 19! I just had photo albums stuffed with all their baby stuff. They have so many cute things now, even tho they're adults I still want to re-do them just to have for myself! Lisa

We are starting nine days of vacation today. Yippee! In doing my maternal genealogy DH & I have located about a dozen graves of my ancestors from the 17th, 18th & 19th centuries throughout New England. Many served in various military capacities. For the past 15+ years we have used Memorial Day as a time to visit the graves & do maintenance. Many are in very rural areas but located on private property. Others are in rural cemeteries that have virtually been lost to time. We cut back encroaching forest growth, straighten the stones, & plant a daylily. The oldest military grave dates to 1687. It took us 5 years to find the site. The headstone was buried halfway...we knew it HAD to be the right grave so DH started digging. We were able to get a tracing of the stone's engraving for verification. It's quite a hike off the road to reach the grave site. We notified the historical society of the location back in the early 90's so Samuel's grave now has a permanent Veteran's placque & flag. Buried near Samuel we located the graves of his second wife & 2 of their children who died in infancy. Other graves are in more prominent cemeteries & we visit just to pay our respects & leave one rose. We'll start our trip before dawn on Monday & won't be home until well after dark. All we can reach in one day are those graves in MA & NH. The rest we visit periodically to keep them maintained. Today & tomorrow we'll do some garden work & BBQ. Next week, we'll take the ferry to Orient Point & spend the day garden center hopping. Then, we'll toss a suitcase in the car & take off for a few days...location unknown as of yet. I'm so glad it's Friday, it's been a really long week. My dh is taking me out for a belated anniversary dinner, I'll report back if it's good! This weekend, I'll be going to a football game with my dh's company, canning as much of Annie's salsa as possible and painting my garden shed. It's time to get all the outdoor projects wrapped up so the inevitable rains can come.

My first time joining in on a TGIF...
It's been a rough month. I haven't had a day off yet. We took a 3-week vacation in August and I'm still paying for it, trying to catch up. No diet coke for me. Just finished a nice glass of red wine.

But Linda, like you, my in-laws had been without power for two weeks, we have plenty. And after lots of computer glitches, everything ran smoothly this week. For that I am truly thankful.
