TGIF 10-21-08 Happy Halloween

TGIF everyone.

It was time for a change, so I am now mom of 2 doxies instead of Bessiedawg. It is past time to let go of the past

No big plans for the weekend, just more yard work. Hoping to get in some relaxation time as the past few weeks have been extremely busy.

So, are you dressing up those doxies? One year Amanda and Ashley went as Catsup and Mustard and our old dachshund, Tammy, got two styrofoam buns and was a hot dog, LOL.

Well, tonight is trick or treats, of course. I didn't even get a pumpkin carved this year, but the Princess and Bruvver will trick or treat me anyway. And not even a single homemade cookie, poor kids, they'll have to make do with store-bought chocolates.

I have to decorate a baby shower cake tonight, the baby shower for my cousin's baby is tomorrow. That's the couple who starred in the "Redneck Bonanza". Sunday is Amanda's birthday and Elery and I are cooking her dinner and then I'm helping the Princess bake cookies for her class birthday treat on Tuesday. Monday I pick up 400 lbs. of beef, so I've got to get cooking something pretty soon, I just put 10 frying chickens and 6 stewing hens in the freezer.

Mornin' ,Linda-- cute Village !

Well we've had our first official snowfall & I've still got applebutter to do-- so far behind this year-- I've also got 3 dz spring bulbs to get in.

I'm doing the second Holiday craft show tomorrow-- hope to find a couple things for the swap-- and the local PTO in that town always does cider donuts !! yummy !!

Well, it's not SO cold here, about 18F, a high of 12F for tomorrow and Sunday, lows below zero. Snow today, tomorrow, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, LOL, welcome to Michigan! Good thing I love it. (grin) Woodie, I might bake some oatmeal cookies myself and take some to Dad. Yes, I take leftovers to Amanda and to Dad, LOL. Stacie, hug that new baby for me. At least your brother can call you! Pixiestix, you're colder than we are. Better bake something. Work on your next contest, or something.... Nancy, put on those sweats. Mine are Carhartts, nice and warm. Fashionable for Michigan too, LOL. Lori, I'll cheer for the Patriots, just for you. So, how much stuff do you have to cook to feed all those boys? Michael, you need a break, you're starting to sound a bit strained. Take care of yourself, will you? Diane, robins? Maybe they can wear some of those old sweaters. (grin) Pam, let's not talk about Christmas decorations, OK? I finally got the lights off the front porch and just realized this morning that I still have a Santa doormat in front of the door. Sigh. I'll be finding stuff until Easter. Maggie, better you than me on those blinds. I completely lack the decorator gene, I just paint everything white! Stacy, that's a good idea, check out camping cabins and think about summer. I love seeing those eagles, we have a pair that nest near the farm but they're elusive. Gina, Florida has better beaches? So I don't need to bring a swimsuit when I come to California? chase, I hope you only get snowed in with people you'd like to be snowed in with! Lee, you're right. Gina needs to post a foot shot... Linda, pile on the wood, it's going to be cold for a while. A bridal shower? You're getting married again? LOL I'm intending to use tomorrow as a cooking day. I want to make some meatballs for Amanda's freezer. (ground beef out of my freezer and into hers, and voila!! I might have some freezer space again) Orange marmalade is on the agenda too, peaches are 99 cents a pound at the grocery store, if they taste good, maybe some sugar free peach syrup for Dad's pancakes. Sunday is the farm and it'll be cold, so nothing will have been done. I'll need to bundle up to fill tanks and hay feeders, feed chickens, fill bird feeders. Monday I'm off work, it's one of those "government holidays". Amanda has Old Navy gift cards and there are 75% off sales right now, so I'm taking her shopping, then hitting Marshall's for dish shopping (like I need any) and then Chuck E. Cheese for lunch. Tuesday I'm still off work. Dad's having surgery on his "good leg", they're going to try to open up some veins to improve his circulation. He's got some diabetic ulcers that won't heal and he's having problems with the artificial knee in that leg. Sigh. He has to be in Grand Rapids at 5:30 a.m. and wants me to drive him, so I have to be at his house at 4 a.m. elery is taking a vacation day from work to come along and keep me company (and keep my sister and stepmom from driving me insane, LOL). TGIF here too. Elery is on his way up for the weekend and he's bringing supper, that's a good thing. Tomorrow we're going out to visit my mother and I'm taking Amanda and the kids with me. Check up on the "old people", aka Dad and Stepmom, and do the regular chores then because Elery wants to go to church on Sunday. He wants to meet my pastor, he's shopping for someone to marry us, LOL. I keep telling him not to rush me.... Lori, no one notices those 10 hour days I put in either, but they sure sit up and mention it when I'm half an hour late because I have a dentist appointment or something, sheesh. They don't manage to add up those late days either, to find out that I worked 60 hours and got paid for 40, they just notice that half an hour. And have I mentioned that I just hate the media anyway? chase, I hope that septic problem is quick and cheap, this time of year, with all that snow, it's going to be a PIA, plus stinky. Ick. Terri, no Trader Joe's? Well, OK, I guess a new couch should make up for it. Michelle, we had 14 inches of snow here too, some is going to have to melt before we have room for any more! The rivers are already high here, it's so cold that the water doesn't soak into the frozen ground and we've already had flood warnings. In February! Yes, if we get a thaw, it'll be exciting all right. duane, I'm glad business is good. I think. (grin) Fish and chips do sound good, though. Annie

We are looking forward to the weekend's NFL Draft! We have an open invitation to one of our friends' homes where every year we have a big food fest and see who goes where for the draft. And, we might have a grand staying over, and if we do, we are happily staying home and doing things with her. My one DDIL is less than the D on the front of the DIL and I think has crossed the line into insanity with this pregnancy. Can a woman do that? Yesterday she called me and was hyper to the manic level and didn't make a whole lot of sense. I really didn't understand what she was talking about. I finally started asking questions and she said she wanted to go to the zoo. At that hour, at 4pm in the day. I told her that it was kind of late and I thought the zoo (which is in another town a few hours away from her) might be closing soon and she should call and get their hours. She went beserk! She started screaming at me and hysterically saying that her friends hate her little girl and they hate us and they hate our son (her husband) and how she is sick and tired of nobody listening to her. And, she just went off crying and screaming to a point I could not understand her. I asked her if she wanted to call me back or if she wanted us to go over and help her out. She started this loud high pitched scream talking and I couldn't understand a word she said and she hung-up on me. I called our son immediately and told him that she was really upset, that I wasn't sure what I did, but he might want to go home a little early. He called this morning and asked if we could take care of their little girl this weekend. I didn't ask what was going on, and he didn't mention it. So, we are open to be a granny and a papa if needed! I am now really concerned for our granddaughter. I am starting to think that she is the butt end of her mother's instabiity issues. There are some signs that are making me sit up and pay attention anyway. Especially now that my (D)DIL told me that her friends hate her daughter and her husband. There is a Mental Illness hotline I think. I might give them a call and see what is what. I am not sure this is just her hormones or if she has "turned a corner" mentally.

TGIF is right! I have spent the last few hours doing yard work - the grass is cut, the edges are trimmed and the sidewalk and driveway have been blown. At least the outside is ready for the Derby Day party tomorrow! I;m sorry so many of you are having carpy weather, it seems spring has sprung here. HEre are a couple of pics of what my yard looks like right now.... Tonight we are going to the opening of a new ice cream shop - Sweet Pea - where a friends daughter is starting her first job tonight. I don't care for ice cream, but my guys do and I'm sure I can get something else. Tomorrow we are having a few friends for a Kentucky Derby party - I will probably put a couple of dollars on Eight Belles (the onyl filly in the race) but that is sentimental only - I don't think she will win. Sunday it is supposed to be rainy, so we will probably lay low and just watch movies. Annie - I will be toasting you with champagne on May 10th, it is my wedding anniversary too and I can only hope you and Elery have many years of happiness. DH and I have an 11 year head start, but we can vouch for the date being a lucky one! Have a happy and safe weekend everyone! Alexa

TGIF, all. Been a rough week here. DH broke his leg and has to be pretty much immobile until the swelling goes down. Surgery next week we hope, then 8 weeks in a cast. It's not going to be a fun winter for a normally very active man.

I'm staying pretty close to home this weekend. It's going to rain, so I think I'll try and get the leaves raked up and stuff put away before it turns to snow. Liana's off housesitting and will come home tomorrow to babysit so I can go to work for a few hours. Sunday is, well, more babysitting.

Happy Halloween!

Going to a friends house tonight to hand out candy to all the little ones. Bunch of us going and we'll all bring what we want to cook on their grill. I'm taking hot Italian Snausages and Hot Dogs. My other friend is making pasta salad and I'm sure there will be lots of other good food and spirits!!

Oh Katie so sorry to hear of your husbands leg, how awful that he needs surgery too. Hope he has a very quick and painless recovery. Maybe you can take some of his pain pills to help alleviate some of your own pain throughout this (that's if he's anything like MY husband). hahahahahah!!!!

Annie sounds like a full weekend for you too! Happy Birthday to Amanda.

Ours kids had plans to attend our church's Harvest Carnival, but the youngest has had a fever for a couple days, so we'll have to see.

Tomorrow is dedicated to celebrating the life of a friend and former colleague/boss of DH's who left this life suddenly and too soon at 61.

DS has requested a big pot of refried beans for dinner, so that's today's project...Just perfect for the cooling and very rainy weather. I have some 5 minute artisan bread to bake, too...probably with garlic thrown in. If I get right to it (instead of sitting at the computer) we can have it for lunch. :-)

Happy weekend to all of you! The mug of cider sounds pretty good right now...

Linda, great village! I love them but have never wanted one of my own.

Annie, I didn't carve any pumpkins either. I have a few sitting on my porch, though. If no one steals them or smashes them (because I'm not passing out candy at my house) I will bake the small one and make some pumpkin bread from the puree. The wee ones love Halloween so much, don't they!

Apple butter and craft shows! How ambitious! I still have a mind to can some applesauce but it hasn't happened yet. Paying work has kept me very busy.

Katie, so sorry to hear about your DH and his broken leg, that sounds miserable for both of you. Wishing him a quick recovery and you much patience.

Shaun, like you, I'm heading to someone else's house for treat dispensing.

Rhome, I'd like to join you in having the mug of hot cider. Sounds delish.

Alice, the social butterfly, has several parties to attend with costume changes. I'm not sure what Daniel has planned, probably passing out treats at his girlfriend's house. I will turn out the lights at my house and go visiting a friend in a busy kid neighborhood. This neighborhood gets a few but most of the kids are grown and gone or are older teens.

I hope to catch up on domestic things over the weekend and make some cookies and start some applesauce.

Happy Fright Night to everyone!

Linda, love your Halloween display. Other than Christmas, I never do anything special in the way of decorating. I'm always in awe of those that do.

Great to hear from you Diane, made a big batch of your cabbage rolls a few weeks back. Always a huge hit.

Annie, sounds like a nice weekend doin' fun family stuff.

Katie, I feel your DH's pain...not a fun thing at all. Poor hub needs to be spoiled..........more than usual.

Shaun, have fun....as I know you will! LOL

rhome, hope the little one is well enough to join in some Halloween fun. Sorry about your friend, that is way too young!

No big plans here. We never get many kids which always depresses me. Maybe we'll go to the pub for dinner and skip it all. Meredith is lamenting the fact she is getting old and doesn't want to be bothered getting a costume and go partying...I think she must be coming down with something as she is the all time party girl!

In the process of making a big batch of my beef broth/brown sauce/demi glace so that will take much of my Saturday. Also have tons of yard work to work in. Weather is gorgeous today hope it holds.

I'll be clinking you all come about 6PM!

Linda, Time is marching on for me too although I caught myself saying dogs instead of dog the other day and broke down, Other than that I've been staying strong.
I really like your spooky village! Did you get it at Michaels?? I have 2 buildings from the Michaels line but I don't really decorate for halloween so much. We don't get too many kids here anymore...mostly big obnoxious kids who barely wear a costume LOL!!

Annie, Happy Birthday to Amanda and The Princess!! I love the ketchup/mustard idea!! Too cute!!

Giane, I love apple butter with pretzels! Enjoy the craft fair-didn't you say there were several craft fairs over the next couple weekends??

Shaun, every year sometime between Christmas and New Years my friend host a "bring all your grub" party where everyone bring all those little bits of cheese trays, lunch meats, casseroles, sweets ectleft over from Christmas...its really a lot of fun!!

Barnmom, Costume changes?? LOL What fun!! Hope you have fun dishing out treats to the wee ones at your friends house!!

Today was fun fun fun!!
I took Helenes advice and went over to our target area very early to see what the traffic was like. It took me 19 minutes to get there from my job!! Of course there was NO TRAFFIC since EVERYBODY and their brother was heading INTO Philly for the parade LOL!!!
My target area is nearby NJ.

So I did see the house from the outside. Very cute!! We'll see if we like it from the inside when we tour it on Sunday.
I walked around a bit...even took my mail to the post office there in town and mailed some cards LOL!
Then I drove to the battlefield on the river, which is now a National Park (hence the town name National Park). I sat there and read thru some home books. Its really nice to have such a lovely park right there in town!!

Tonight I am having one special trick or treater stopping by...dear great neice Alexia!! I don't know what they are dressing her as so it should be fun!! I got her some books and animal crackers!!
She is 10 months now and just starting to walk/wobble!!

Drew is still at the parade with his girlfriend and her family.

Both of us have to work tomorrow-jeez its funny saying that LOL! Sunday we are going on house tours.

Trick or Treat everyone:)

Hudson has a little pumpkin costume but he is napping with grandma right now. Rhiannon and Peyton are princesses and Hayden is a mouse. They look soooo cute in their costumes. I hope we get some trick or treaters, since we enclosed the porch we lost our front porch light so I put on the inside light and put out some lighted decorations on the front steps. I love to see all the little ones in their costumes. Dan and my mil are out with the oldest 3 and Hudson is napping with my mom. I will post some pics of the kids after DH gets them loaded.

TGIF and Happy Halloween to all!

Nothing to exciting going on here this weekend. Handing out candy to the little ghosts and goblins...thought I would have more than what have shown up so far....it is picking up now that I've started this post.

Tomorrow night I'm hosting a little party for the OU/NE game...old time rivals and we haven't played them for a few years. I'll be giving one of my DB a hard time as he went to college there and still lives in Lincoln. THat is if we win! Love college football.

The big thing for my family is we are going to receive short video of my DN and his Platoon tonight. We can't wait as we have only been able to write each other since he left for training back in August. My DS is pacing around her house waiting for it...just got off the phone with her. Two weeks and counting until he is done with basic training.

Raising a Crown and some chocolate to everyone!

I hope ya'll are enjoying your Halloween. Not much happening here. We don't get trick or treaters anymore since they built all these uber expensive housing developments outside of town. The town is so very small and houses are decent distance apart and no sidewalks makes for less and less kids willing to walk through town.

Getting grocery delivery tomorrow with lots of goodies to stock up the baking supplies. It's one of my dogs favorite times, getting to practice sitting nicely while the delivery person puts lots of food at our feet, lol. My new sourdough starter should be ready this weekend to try out it's first loaves. I also have to jump the tractor and see if I can get the grass cut one last time [hopefully]. Other than those few things, I plan on enjoying the fall and trying to train the dog on the treadmill. Wish me luck.
