What should I have in my laundry room?

Our laundry room is about 10X11....so far I have washer and dryer, sink, counters and cabinets in there. Our upright freezer will be in the garage, the kids cubbies are in the mudroom area. Is there anything I might want in my laundry room that I'm not thinking of that would be useful there? I don't need an ironing board.

Something to hang stuff on....like shirts just out of the dryer, for instance.

A garbage can for lint from the dryer.

The powder room is very small and is sandwiched between the kitchen and living room. We cannot put it in the dining room nor the family room and don't want it to go in the kitchen. We considered an addition over the garage and that was pricey and would raise property taxes. I would love to have it in a master closet, but we have two small ones in there that barely fit our clothes. I even considered ripping out our huge corner tub in the master bath and putting the washer and dryer in there. The contractor explained that would involve a total remodel of that room and would be very expensive. I knew when we bought this house that this would be my one issue. I may just have to live with it :)

the basement laundry smell might have more to do with insufficient air movement ..... every basement i was ever acquainted with... lacked a cold air return at floor level ... so the furnace never really moved air down low .... leading to that wonderful basement scent ... maybe its just a MI thing ... but i am thinking upstairs.... you just arnet going to be dealing with that kind of dead air ... also.. if it does start bugging you ... something like a bathroom exhaust fan would be simple to install in the ceiling... unless you have a second floor ... also ... the dryer will be sucking air outside.. and it has to come from somewhere ... so it will probably exchange the air also ... one thought for sure.. i wouldnt close the door to the cubby while doing laundry .... good luck ken

My studio is almost finished with Ben Moore's Crystalline, AF-485, on the walls and Putnam Ivory on the trim. My cabinets will be Navajo white, but right now they just have a white primer on them. The white looks nice with the Crystalline too. I tried to take a picture for you but the Crystalline is not showing up correctly in my photos. It changes with the light, sometimes more green, sometimes more blue. It's a very pretty, soothing color. You'd need to see a larger sample of it to get the true impression. It appears darker on the sample chip.

The Gold Bond XP board is far superior to generic "green board" and is purple. I don't know why contractors can't learn a new term especially when the old one connotes poor performance. This stuff can't hurt and the cost shouldn't be high so go ahead. Paint protects exposed drywall pretty well so high humidity and a lack of ventilation are the conditions that should trigger the need for a special wallboard rather than just the proximity to plumbing fixtures and pipes. Where I live, all wall board is veneer plaster (blueboard) where the paper facing is protected by a thin layer of hard plaster so I haven't seen moisture resistant drywall used in 40 years.

Here are some good suggestions. Based on this post I enlarged my laundry room and included an area for crafts and other projects.

Sink if you can, trash can, a line or rod to hang clothes. a folding area (counter or a table) if you have room. shelves or cabinets for products. good bright lighting helps.

my area is in a basement and is not as nice as a main floor room but I have a cabinet, a bright light over my work area, lines to hang clothes, and a trash can next to the dryer. I have a small island counter that a builder put a very small dent in the top of at a friends house that going to put legs on and use for a folding table. I got that for free and am going to make use of it instead of it going to the trash.
