First thing tomorrow make an appointment with a dermatologist to have it checked; especially since it is shaped irregularity and is growing.

I was going to make a smart a$$ suggestion like using spackle and a trowel but after reading your post I don't think there's anything to joke about.

Get it checked quickly.

Draw a smiley face on the masking tape.

(Actually, some folks say that the smiley face actually started out as a death's head).

I have had liver spots also called age spots and a small cancer removed by a plastic surgeon. She (surgeon) gave me a prescription cream called Efudex for the liver spots. The cancer was was removed with a small incision and stitches. Both places on my face look fine with no scars.

I had one that sounds like it's in the same place as yours except mine was round and kept getting bigger. It didn't look like a mole - just a brownish spot. Dermatologist took it off and it hasn't been back.

I do hope you will keep us posted and that you take the advice here and make a Dr. appointment.

I had a couple on my neck that kept getting darker. I would not home treat them unless I knew what they were so I had a dr. look at them. Since the dr. told me they were age spots, I wash my neck with dandruff shampoo everyday and 2 times a week I use baby oil on them. They are still there but lighter in color and hardly noticeable. I was also getting skin tags in the same area, but the baby oil seems to keep them away! Montana_Jan

Thanks for your concern -- I should have told you in my first post that the dermatologist looked at it about a year ago when I went to see him about something else and he wasn't concerned about it. He called it some fancy name, and offered to take care of it, but I was distracted by my other issue at the time and didn't want to mess with it. (I didn't like him anyway -- I thought he was just out for the money.)

So I'm 99.9% positive it's just an age spot. And no, it's not noticably growing. I just don't want it to. Any suggestions?

I had a small one and it checked out OK with the Dr. He said sunscreen sunscreen! I extra moisturize it and I can hardly see it now~~it did freak me out at first!

I used to hate those things when i first started getting them.They started on my arm and made it look like it was dirty.Dr told me to wear sunscreen and long sleeve shirts.Then i got them on my face.Now i don't even think about them,as they say,"this getting old ain't for sissies",

As for skin tags,they're another story,almost every year i have to get some removed ,because mine choose to grow along where the band of my bra rides,and they get very irritated from the bra.

Someone told me to put "liquid bandage" on skin tags and they will drop off. I've been doing it, and so far it works, who knows why! (Beats me clipping them off which I don't advise!)

I do use a cream called Derma Fade on the age spots and it does lighten them. The ones on my arms are a lost cause, too much sun damage, but the hands and face ones seem to have faded. Kathy

whidbeykathy, I could kiss you! Skin tags run in my family and my aunt, grandpa, and cousin have TONS of them. I am starting to get them too and I have been so stressed about getting them everywhere. I am going to start using the liquid bandage!

I have two definite age spots on my cheeks, one on each side. I also have some deep wrinkles, and use Perfectionist from Estee Lauder on both.

Can't really say I see a difference in the age spots, but they have not gotten darker, or more noticeable.

I used to get dark on the upper lip, in the summers especially, but since I use the Perfectionist there too, it hasn't happened the last two summers.

Spensive, but I think I am worth it.

I asked my dermatologist about the liver spots on the backs of my hands and she said to use sun screen. She also suggested a facial moisturizer with SPF30 for my face, even in the winter.

huh...I've had one of those on my upper arm for bout 20 years, and never asked or knew what it was. I'm going to try the liquid bandage trick, just for fun.

Aveeno Positively Radiant, fades age spots and evens out skin tone. I've been using it around 6 months and have noticed a difference. I have them really bad on my face and arms from years of sun exposure. It's a little expensive but if you're only using it on part of your body, it lasts a long time. I only put it on my arms/back of hands and face.

I had two age spots, both high up on my cheek bones near the outer corners of my eyes. It looked like my face was dirty. I stayed out of the sun (used sunblock and wore hats) and ignored them, and now they're gone. I guess staying out of the sun and normal cell turnover replaced them with healthy normally pigmented skin. Check with a doctor. Don't bother with home remedies. I heard lemon juice is a mild skin bleach, but I wouldn't use it.

You could go the other direction with Sunless Tanner. I use it on Main Man the night before a special occasion or formal events.

Bare Minerals makeup makes my age spots go away almost instantly! :-) I use it on my hands and arms as well.

Some people I know tie a long hair tightly around the base of their skin tags and after a few days the tag drops off. I haven't tried it because the only time I got skin tags was when I was pregnant (over 20 years ago). I had them removed after I gave birth and have not seen one since.

I would be willing to bet that it is not an age spot...they are usually just that a spot...as in roundish.

My daughter has brown spots over her eye and on her cheeks.

They are hormonal and the sun makes them darker.

There are ways to have them removed but the process is expensive.

Good make up is the easiest answer.

But ask your doctor "what" they are.

I hate it when they tell you there's nothing to worry about but don't explain what they are.

Jodi, I had a skin tag under my arm. My daughter talked me into letting her tie a little piece of dental floss around it and sure enough in a couple of days it dropped off and has never returned.

I don't want to be an alarmist, but please get a second opinion. I will tell you the reason why, so that you will understand my concern.

My cousin had something very, very similar to what you describe. She was examined by a dermatologist and told it was nothing to worry about. A litle over a year later she was dead from melanoma. Please, please be extra certain that you got correct info. I surely hope that you did.

Iva, my suggestion of seeing a doctor was based on something similar - I have personal knowledge of how serious skin melanomas are - they can be deadly!
