Miele W4842; Custom + Sensitive= no extra time?

I used Custom today, Very Warm, Max Spin. When I select Extended or Heavy Soil (pre-wash)...the machine adds rougly 25-31 mins to to 1:00 wash time.

If I select Custom + Sensitive...the wash time stays 1:00. This seems odd, since if I select Sensitive with Normal, Wrinkle Free, Extra White, the time is increased to allow for the extra rinse (sensitive option).

Anyone else have this?

Machine is running flawlessly though...and SO quiet and balanced! Clothes are so clean, soft and fluffy!!!! :)

Ok...I think I have a bigger issue, and hope of you guys can help!

After the cycle set to Custom + Sensitive option ended, I tried Normal, Extra White, Wrinkle free, etc, etc and added the Sensitive option....No extra time added, no extra rinse!!

If I select Extended or Heavy Wash, the wash time is extended for the cycles I select! But nothing for Sensitive!

I thought just the Custom cycle was affected, but I have NO Sensitive/3rd rinse!

I went into my programming, and tried selecting and un-selecting Allergy, Rinse Process, Bleach, maximum water level, etc,, to see if this would return my Sensitive Option...and nothing. The machine is running amazingly perfect, but what has happened to my Sensitive Option?

The light illuminates when I select Sensitive, but no time extension, and no physical extra rinse!

Concerned, annoyed, a little worried! Thanks for any help!

I told you in another thread that you should turn ON the combined water+/extra rinse option otherwise the Sensitive button will not work. You said elsewhere that you turned on only the water+, which will render your Sensitive button useless.

STOP PLAYING WITH YOUR SETTINGS!

I LOVE the Miele Care Collection Delicates wash. I've never thought of it smelling like roses, but maybe a little now that you mention it. Here in CA, it retails for $20/bottle, and the bottle is not very big. I do LOVE, LOVE it for sheets. The sheets feel like silk and look virtually ironed. I do ALWAYS use a cap of Downy with a little water for EVERY load I wash! I DO NOT like the Miele Care color or universal powder or liquid. I find Persil is much, much better. The MieleCare Fabric Softener is quite good though, and yes...the smell is light and very gentle!! For sheets I almost always use Wrinkle Free, with either warm or very warm water. Spin speed High (Wrinkle Free will not allow you to select Max Spin). I've found Wrinkle Free to be the ideal sheet cycle. For our clothes and our son's clothes, I use Normal, with either Warm or Very Warm water settings OR I use Custom with Warm or Very Warm. Custom will utilize the on board heater, so water temperature will be very consistent and maintained! Normal will just use water from your home water heater. I no longer have any whites. I used to only buy white towels and white sheets...but I grew tired of the look and blandness of white. I have recently been on a chocolate brown and Cape Cod blue kick! But when I had white, I used Extra White ALL the time. No shrinking or fabric damage! I CANNOT recommend enough having the dryer adjusted right away. Have them set the Normal Cycle to not allow as much moisture & set it a little warmer. Also, have them activate the extended cool down / extended reverse tumble. Clothes and sheets come out wrinkle free, cool and SO fluffy! 99% of time I just use Normal + the Gentle Option for everything I dry. Flawless everytime. Gentle just regulates how quickly the dryer heats up...it's easier on clothes, elastics, prints, etc... I have my machine set to Water + / Extra Rinse. Having the higher rinse levels really makes the clothes feel softer and fresher. Just remember the Water+ will not work for any Custom Cycle...just the pre set buttons and Master Care cycles. The Comforters setting is AMAZING and I use the Beach towels on my son's school clothes, before I wash his clothes using either Normal or Custom. The Beach towels cycle, removes any sand or debris. Great cycle! Do NOT canel your order!! You're gonna FLIP how amazing Miele washers and dryers are!!!

Larsi, today we went to set up return for Electrolux washer that was having problems. The guy at appliance who sold it to us said that we needed to call Electrolux, tell them the prob and ask for a R.C.M number, then call him with it and he will order me another one, so that they can get refunded from Electrolux. Electrolux wanted to send out a service repair. I told them that i didn't trust this machine due to the rubbing and had called the authorized repair man, told him the prob and he said he would ask for a new one, as this could be seal or tub or both. He said he wouldnt keep one that was bad from day one. So after Electrolux figured out i wasnt going the repair route, they told me to call the store and tell them they had a seven day return policy. Told her it was delevered last thurs.and that store was passing buck to them. Electrolux got the store on the phone, told them i said no repair and then electrolux said the 7 day return policy for a electrolux did not start until unit was delivered, not from purchase date! Store said it would get with their RCM people and that electrolux may give them some credit for it. I am not sure they will get full credit. Anyway, i should hear from store tomorrow to tell me that they have ordered me another set as the dryer was dammaged and they did not check it over before delivery. I don't think that it was my place to have to do all the leg work. It should have been store, but salseman said if i called that it would carry more weight. I think that he knew that i would be told to have it repaired and he just didn't want to tell us that. I will rest easier when they call tomorrow with a time line of when new set is in. They will reverse the dryer door as they didn't do it with this one even though i asked for it, but my DH was going to do it anyway. Fingers crossed i get a good set, no scratches, dents, or detergent tray that does not hang on the front corner which this one does. THEN, i will be in laundry heaven!!!!

MieleÃno contest. Miele enters your machines into its database where a history of service, parts, and hours of usage are logged. Miele will also, during a service visit, review your machine for revised parts and install them should the your machine exhibit symptoms that warrant the part is updated. Our experience with Miele's techs has been exemplary.

I believe the denim cycle doesnÂt spin so much to reduce wrinkling in the denim material. However, most of the custom programs that reduce interim spin speeds or eliminate them all together will increase rinse water levels slightly to compensate for the lack of wash water removal. So donÂt worry, it rinses well all of the time. I find that a lot of thought went into these mastercare programs and I think they work very well. All of the programs work great but I will say I avoid the "Normal" wash selection. Instead I use "custom". When using normal the internal heater is inop, it will fill with the temp selected but thatÂs it, temps are even limited in this program, this being a basic wash program that helps It achieve its energy star rating. So use "custom", pick your temp, spin speed, options, then start. ItÂs the best way to do a basic wash I find.

Sshrivastava...I wasn't playing with my settings (that sounds so naughty! :)

I just wanted to extra rinse some school clothes and school bedding for my 3 year old today. I was really concerned that my Sensitive option did not work!

You are genius!!! I never understood what you meant by Water+ and Extra Rinse. I figured it out just now, after reading your post!!

I "played with my settings" again, and instead of just selecting Water+, I kept scrolling thru the options of Water+, Extra Rinse..and A-HA! I found it! Water+ and Extra Rinse combined! I selected what you said, and voila...My Sensitive option now works!

Question...Now that I have Water+ and Extra Rinse programmed/selected, if I do not physically push the Sensitive button, will I now be getting 3 rinses with every load by default? With Water+ (it rinses in A LOT of water)..I do not need 3 rinses with every wash load. Usually 2 rinses with the Water+ setting is more than enough! Just sometimes I would like a 3rd rinse!

Again, Thank You. I was going to call Miele Service on Monday. You made my mind relax, and now all weekend, I will not think about my non-functioning Sensitive Option. This Board really does ROCK!!!! And I LOVE my W4842 and T9802. I am still amazed at the build quality, materials used and the condition and cleanliness of all my clothes, sheets and towels. Miele has actually made some of my older cotton clothing look newer! Brilliant!

By selecting water+/extra rinse, you should be getting additional rinse levels even if your Sensitive button is not pressed. If it is, you get the 3rd rinse. Of course if you have also selected Maximum Water Level you will have standard rinse levels up to the bottom of the porthole with every rinse. Again, pressing Sensitive will simply give you a 3rd rinse.

Oh my god I am so confused nowÂ.. Let me start off by saying I made the colossal mistake of being too prepared and had the service manual weeks before I had my machine. I decided how I would configure it before it even arrived. Not understanding how it would work with the default setting, let alone all of the changes I made. I never realized that some of these setting would either permit or inhibit another. With that said, how does selecting "Maximum water level" keep the rinse levels standard? Is it only for the wash water level, higher wash water, so less rinse water?

What the fuc_? You have a decent amount of people her who would love to know more about how our machines really work. We love them, show us what we can do with them, maybe send out an instructional DVD....... for the love of go.......................

Maximum Water Level affects only rinse water level and takes it to the maximum regardless of load type. This is useful in soft water areas where laundry doesn't rinse as well with less water. It does not affect wash levels. Water+/Extra Rinse does increase wash and rinse levels slightly. You can turn both settings on and use them together with no ill effect. You'll have slightly increased wash water levels and rinse water up to the bottom of the porthole.

I recommend using Miele's default settings for most people. If you need to change anything, do it one setting at a time and observe the results. Change only those settings which are absolutely necessary and where you've confirmed changing the setting actually does something. I'm convinced that turning on Allergy function does absolutely nothing to the machine.

None of the service menu customizations work in Custom mode.
