Even though this thread is a bit dated, I figured I would throw in my two cents' worth on the W4842 which I just received about 24 hours ago. First of all, this thing is HEAVY. My neighbor and I really had a challenge going down the basement stairs with it. If you choose to do the installation yourself I strongly advise using a hand truck with retaining straps (which is what we did)! Second- I found the setup of this machine pretty straightforward. Remove the two shipping struts, take great care in getting the machine as level as you possibly can (this cannot be overemphasized IMO), hook up the water and drain hose, plug 'er in and you should be good to go. Third- in my opinion Miele really put a lot of thought and research in their MasterCare programs. My observation is that this machine practically thinks for itself. I do wish you could choose spin speeds in the "normal" program, though (of course, the "custom" program is almost wide-open!). Having MAX speed as the only option in a program designed to handle the bulk of wash needs is bound to significantly reduce drum bearing life IMO; probably done to get the Energy Star rating...???? (I actually lowered the MAX speed to 1200 RPM via Program Mode to help it enjoy a longer life). Fourth- the build quality of the W4842 seems to be very solid. It should last longer than my old warsher did. Since I do not have the T9822 (yet) I can't comment on it but when my present dryer bites the dust I do plan on purchasing it or whatever Miele would currently have as its equivalent. This is my very first Miele appliance and hopefully it turns out as good as others say about them. Oh, did I mention that the W4842 seems to be SOLIDLY built?

Suburbanmd, Our first W4842 was for sure defective. It did not vibrate, shake or rattle, but... It had the rubber boot shredding into thousands of small pieces, the soap tray had to be fixed, the machine kept saying the door was open during loads and the Hygiene Info would come on, even after during a Sanitize or Clean Machine cycle! Now, the second one (the one Miele gave us as a warranty replacment...the one I got rid of within a week of), I am now thinking maybe it had a drawer/pedestal issue and was unbalanced. I do not know though, since the Installer were sent by Miele Headquarters themeselves and the Installers returned the next day, and they said they "fixed" the machine. They were very young, and seemed like "hung over" frat guys after a party night!! I was really surprised and not happy, that this was the company Miele sent themselves! I guess I will never know, since I got rid of the machine and went to Electrolux for about 2-3 weeks. No real issues with the Electrolux (they were SO quiet & clothes were very clean, but I did not like the dryer very much and build materials were poor and the doors were questionable). I'm now on load 6 with my current W4842...and it is PERFECT! Also the new T9802 Electric Dryer is AMAZING. I had Miele program it like my old T9800. I had them set the Normal cycle a little warmer and the Cooling Down period to Extended. Now even using Normal, nothing is left damp, and the clothes are left SO soft, fluffy and 100% wrinkle free. The Extended Cooling Down Program is a must. The new dryer is even quieter than the T9800 (and that one was pretty quiet). The build materials on both the W4842 and T9802 cannot be compared to any other machine in the world. The doors, glass and plastics feel like an old (old, in a good way :) Mercedes-Benz. Teutonic, over-built and bank vault solid. SO happy. Wow, what a roller coaster month of laundry and financial stress and aggravation. In the end, Miele proved best for me. Now our entire house is Miele, and knowing that Miele Service comes out (with parts with them) is a big peace of mind. Danke Schön Miele!!! :) P.S. Just did a load of my son's clothes at 6am (while everyone else was sleeping...Normal, Very Warm, Max Spin). I am in the room next to the laundry room & my 3 year old son's room is directly above the laundry room. I did not even know the machine entered the Max Spin cycle and was complete, until I walked in the laundry room. Miele made the machine Electrolux/Samsung quiet and balanced. Amazing actually!!

@livebetter @larsi @sshrivastava I appreciate your warranty comments and may extend. Currently investigating Miele preferred service installation since their factory tech won't be available until July 26th. I do plan to ask them to adjust some of the factory settings as suggested by others on this forum. Will wait a few months to see how units perform before adding extended warranty. @larsi my setup allows me to connect either electric or gas and live in SE US so electric not too expensive. Currently using an electric LG although used gas dryer many years ago while living in NE US. My perception is that gas will get my large bath sheets dryer, quicker which should save time for housekeepers. Also, planning to use with the Miele rotary iron for other items. We'll see if noise and other issues mentioned on forum will be a problem for me. Hopefully this will be my last such purchase since in past 10 years I've been thru two units (Maytag and LG) and hopefully Miele will last 20 years or more which is greater than my life expectancy.

No fail safe that would need to be reset kicks in for that, it just shuts down. It resets after you open the door. I had a big comforter drying one time that restricted the air flow and caused this to happen. So I tried it, and I closed the cold water inlet to the washer. Below are the emails I received shortly after the faults occurred. This morning Miele contacted me to see if I needed further assistance correcting these issues. How is cool is that?
