I Should Introduce Myself

I've been wanting to put in my two cents on this forum, but decided that I should introduce myself first.

I'm a mother to two adult children and have four grandchildren. I'm a southern girl and I enjoy vegetable gardening, and flower gardens. I'm married and enjoy my family and friends most of all in life.

Hello Marianne. Hope you stay at the party. That's quit a list of roses and you got some of my favorites which I have not found in the US. Your garden must be a sight to see. Hope you post a picture one of these days at the gallery. I now have too much shade to grow roses.

I am sorry for the sadness and physically difficulties you have faced and continue to face and glad that you are able to garden with joy and anticipation again. I have ws thousands of containers over the years but only 4 containers this year, just a bump in my gardening plans and am hoping to get more done later and I am not actively trading seeds at this time so haven't been reading the Seed Exhange page or paying much attention to the offers in other postings. A few suggestions to get responses to your seed exchange offers: 1. Post on the Seed Exchange Forum and the Round Robin Forum. 2. Post on exchange pages of this and other forums that you frequent. 3. Join group exchanges. There was a group Wintersowing Swap earlier this year. Sometimes there will be a post telling of a new swap and linking to it. 4. If someone has expressed interest in trading in a Discussion posting follow up with an e-mail to that person. It is easy to forget the offer if one doesn't go back to read the post again. Thank you both, and thanks for the welcome! I'm surprised the pictures came out so well, I have an old first generation digital camera that isn't great at close ups. I used to only use my old Pentax SLR from the 70s which takes great pics, but now I guess I'm too lazy, or too much in need of the instant gratification that digital cameras offer. I have three books, Butterflies through Binoculars: The East, the Kaufman Field Guide to Butterflies of North America, and Rodale's Attracting Butterflies and Hummingbirds to Your Backyard. I need to study them so I can identify what I'm seeing without taking a photo or running for the book before they fly away. I'm also facinated with their chrysalis phase - I watched a caterpillar moving its way around my deck railing until it found just the right spot to anchor itself - I thought it would emerge soon, but it just sits there looking brown and dead - I'll need to post a photo of it so I can figure out what it is. Most books don't show many chrysalis pics. I'm only familiar with the Monarchs.

Welcome Lisa and Barb! I've been around here since about 2004. I'm a mostly vegetarian who occasionally posts about meat, but I eat and cook primarily vegetarian, that's my specialty. I'm a hash cook, can't bear to cook anything that has to be "shaped" or has lots of steps. I cook because I like to eat good food, not because I like cooking. I'm a biology teacher, currently marginally employed and always job hunting it seems. I live in SE Pennsylvania, but my family is from Michigan and I go back frequently. In my heart of hearts I'm a north country girl. Like Annie, I like my cornbread any old way, I just like it. I eat beans almost every day. But I don't like sweet tea. I like chocolate, but I'm not a chocoholic, thankfully. I can usually resist it. I try to eat healthy, I'm not a huge fan of rich foods. Lately I have some diet challenges due to health, I'm having to lay off acid foods. I would love to go to Maine, since I love the northwoods and water! It is on my bucket list. I'm single but I am currently in a relationship with a wonderful man. No pets, I'm gone from home too much, sadly. No kids either, sadly. I love to garden, I am a plant weenie, and I have a tiny raspberry patch. I sure wish I had room for more! I also wish I had room for asparagus. I'm hoping to convince my BF to plant both in his yard, he has the room! My yard is postage stamp size behind my row house.

Hi momtotwo ~ Welcome to the table. It's nice to meet you. I am Linda and I live in north west Mississippi. I'm married, have 1 grown daughter, 2 grown stepdaughters, two grown stepsons and an 11 year old niece who dh and I adopted November 2006. We also have 10 grandkids and three big dogs we love dearly and the best news of all is I have been retired for one month and one day now. What a wonderful way to start the new year.

Hi Momtotwo! Glad you stopped in. We hope you enjoy the table as much as we do. I love gardening too, although I stay frustrated most of the time since I live in the dry Texas panhandle. If you get plenty of rain to help you with your gardening, please don't tell me, unless you don't mind seeing a grown woman cry. :) WELCOME!

I'm also a mom to two grown kids, 3 grands, one dog and one dh. I love gardening, birds and most all wildlife.

I'm in Florida although many people don't consider FL part of the south.

Welcome, mom2-2 ... from a northern guy (near London, Ontario, Canada ... midway Detroit - Buffalo, north of L. Erie).

Had a spouse for just over 11 years, was ex- (for 35 - recently deceased) ... 2 "kids" (over 40), of either variety (oh, there are more?), no GKs. No dogs, three barn cats (feed all, can pet 1-1/2) and a half-grown kitten ... that I can touch, but is skittish.

We hope that you can come up with some good ideas - we need all that we can lay our hands on!

You'll find some good ones here, and some good friends, as well, I'm sure.

I don't know whether it's after-Christmas blues, or tiredness, or what ...

... but there seems to have been some crabbiness extant around here lately ...

... but don't get discouraged - that's not typical.

There's usually a good spirit and much warmth passed around among the folks here.

Pull up a chair, have a cuppa and join the gang.

I hope that you and yours have a wonderful New Year.

I've got plenty of chocolates for everyone. Please help yourself. Another Louisianian here. I see we have at least a couple of others. Maybe we can meet up sometimes. I'd love to make a get together if any of you meet in Florida but I'm sure I won't be able to do this one. Got a lot of "stuff" going on over here.

Welcome to the most interesting, diverse table of folks you'll ever be seated with! I live in NW KS, married 40 years, 2 adult married kids who live less than two hours from us and each other, 3 granddaughters...the oldest will be 13 this month..yikes!...the next will be 9 in Feb. (these are DS's kids)...and DD had a girl in Sept., so she's 4 months old now.

Welcome to the KT. This is a great bunch of people with a wealth of knowledge about all sorts of things. I've been up and down at the table for several years now due to the business of life. I too, am from Louisiana.
I've been married for 35 years and have one living son. My daughter was killed when she was 19. I do oil painting and a little gardening. I have two grandsons and a granddaughter. I also have a teenage stepson. We live near them, so we see them often.
