wireless switches for lights etc?

Has anyone used wireless or remote to turn on their lights?

I wanted a switch to be hidden away or under the cabinets, but it's tricky to do it to code and looking good at the same time.

I am using a wireless switch to turn on a surge protector that powers my undercab and inside cab lights, it works fantastic and I don't have to hardwire my lights. In my home the roof is closing in above the kitchen makes it very difficult for anyone to work in the attic. Instead of a big project I have my lights in 5 minutes.

I don't want to hardwire my cabinets either. How exactly did you do this - just put the surge protector in the cabinet on the counter?

Hi, there is an outlet in the cab above the range used to be for OTR microwave. Since I converted to range hood I have no use for that outlet.

I put my surge protector in that cab and I bought my undercab fluroescent lights which are plugged in there.
The cords easily fished down in my situation then pushed into the light fixtures.

I used one of these remote surge protectors, it comes with a good looking switch, but most importantly it's slim so it be mounted upside down below the cabinets.

Because I have multiple plug-in lights (3 so far) , the power bar's foot print was actually adequate.

I bought a few pieces of Radio Shack X-10 just last week at a clearance store with the idea of installing it in my elderly mothers house so she could switch a few lights on from her bedside. Sort of as a security/convenience thing. Anyways I'm a bit confused. I got two wall outlets that the box says "controls a lamp or appliance" My question is what if you plug an appliance into the "controlled" socket for example an electric space heater and then someone uses the dimmer feature on the mini-controller.. isn't that dangerous... My other question is do the "appliance modules" not respond to the "all lights on" command or do they? It's all very confusing. Like the original poster I would like to use some of these systems but if it's going to be a hassle because I've got nearly all CFL's installed now it won't be worth it.

I had not thougt of a motion sensing fixture. That is a good suggestion and I will seriously consider that. I know the best solution would be to hard wire a switch through the attic and down in the wall, but another idea that has occured to me is Wiremold. The run on the ceilings would be less than 2'. Then the Wiremold would run down along the door frame and then over a few inches to the switch. Other than the ceiling most of it would not be visible looking into the closets. Any thought on this?

They exist. More common to find ones that can be used as 3-ways than those who can't, however, you'll probably have to replace both of the existing 3-way switches with the matching master/slave for the wireless switch.

The reviews on Amazon don't give me that warm fuzzy feeling. :) There's only 6 reviews and half of them are bad. That is, if you read the actual review. There are a couple of 4 stars that don't sound like they should be 4 stars if you read the comment. Now that it actually exists, I wonder how many people are willing to spend 30 bucks plus shipping for it. As a side note, this thread seems like one that lots of people feel the need to sign up for a Houzz account, make one comment on this thread pointing everyone at SwitchFlip and then not participating in any other discussions. Is it possible that these people have an ulterior motive in promoting this product? :)
