Power washer to clean high up on my house?
Comments (7)I just bought the 18ft one from Northern Tool. Its a nice wand and I purchased the gutter cleaning attachment. I'm going to use it for the first time this weekend. Either way, I think you will need something a bit more powerful than the electric unit you have now. Something with at least 2500 psi should work. I bought a Ridgid 3000psi machine for 399 at home depot. It has a subaru robin engine that it the easiest engine to start and is not that loud. Also this was comes with AR brass head pump. While its not a top of the line Cat pump, its a good axial cam pump that should last a long time. I really like my pw. I noticed lowes a similiar machine with a briggs engine same psi for 389. I know HD and lowes have pw with less psi for less $$....See MoreDid I just kill my new electric power washer by getting it wet?
Comments (8)I am pretty sure you have a ground fault switch on the plug. There is no way to avoid getting that thing dry in the mid of using. I wet it so many times. I sure hope mine would take a dive like this so I can have the excuse to buy a new one!!! The electric ones are just pissy!!! No power at all. After I spent hours cleaning bricks and concrete, I finally told my wife I refuse to use that anymore!!! Want me to clean, she has to buy me a real washer!!! If it really crap out, let that be the message from the universe that you need a better one, it's better for your health!!!! It sounds like I am joking, but I am really not. My wife don't want to spend money on a new one and I am stuck with this!!!! It actually hurt my neck because I have to spent hours stairing at the floor waiting for it to be clean!!!! I hate that electric washer....See MoreFirst impressions of my new washer & dryer
Comments (4)Thanks for the tips, Housefairy and Dadoes. Bookert, the washer replaced a Maytag that was still working. I moved the laundry area from the dungeon basement to the first floor, and decided to start fresh with two new machines. (The dryer gave up the ghost two years ago.) I didn't even know that Speed Queen made washers for the home until I came here and started reading. I think if you do a search on Speed Queen at this forum you'll learn a lot about them. Linked below is my original post about choosing a washer. Elsewhere on the web, I read nothing but good reviews for Speed Queen, and this model in particular. Also another model with a few more cycles, which costs a little more. The biggest selling point for SQ is reliability. The machine comes with a three-year warranty (as opposed to the usual one-year). It is made in the USA and uses metal (not plastic) parts. I read that it's gentle on clothes. I haven't given it any real cleaning challenges yet, but I can say that everything looks clean so far. SQ costs more than the GE, Maytag, Whirlpool lineup. I paid $539 for the floor model, which was about $100 off for that store. I found one elsewhere (not a floor model) for $598. Had I not decided to buy it, my next step would have been to investigate Whirlpool's models. I heard a lot of good things about that brand, too. Good luck! Comments (6)I've had a new SQ TL set for about 1 month and love it. I do not have soft water, but I did for many years in my previous home. Do you have a water conditioner? I ask, because when ours needed attention, it affected rinsing soap/detergent out of everything. I would suggest that you only wash with 1 HE detergent, skip all the other products, use the appropriate water temp and cycle for the sorted clothes and detergent - don't wash jeans with nice delicate items for instance - and use the correct level of water. I would do a second rinse since you have soft water. I love the small and medium levels. I only use delicate cycle for nice blouses, tanks, etc. and usually a small load. The delicate cycle is too gentle to get your everyday clothes clean. All that said, please use the dryer - no dryer sheets - and save your time and sanity, since the dryer isn't the source of the problem. I really like the nearly dry cycle choice for alot of my clothing. Using Downey and dryer sheets is adding a layer of 'stuff' on your clothes you don't need - just my personal opinion....See Morejcrowley99
