Update on the guys and a recipe request

Hi everyone.

I wanted to post the update here because I am also requesting ideas to take to Stephen.

I have good news for both Stephen and Charles!

Last week the docs gave Charles permission to walk with crutches!! He still cannot put weight on the leg but crutches are a big deal since he broke all is ribs the use of crutches would have been impossible before now.

Next week he will have his jaw brace removed! It will be about 2 weeks of PT to learn how to work the jaw and then, with a little luck, the feeding tube can be removed!!

Charles has lost 40 lbs...not good for a football player.

He will get better faster once he can eat real food!!

His spirits are so much better! He is happy and laughing all the time...its all good!

Stephen is in better spirits too! He goes back to the hospital on Tuesday (please say a prayer) to be xrayed.

They will then determin if the bones have healed enough to begin some PT. If docs say no then he will have to remain at the nursing home for another month. AND finally someone has addressed his arm!! I think I posted that his right shoulder was dislocated and it was not improving...he does everything with his left hand because he says he cannot move the right without ungodly pain. Well the nurse at the hursing home wondered if he may have a torn rotator cuff??

EUREKA!!! He'll have an MRI on Tuesday to determin whats going on but I'll put money on the nurses idea!!

Now for my request for ideas.

The food at the nursing home in UNFIT for humans!!

Its horrible!! Just this week we went just after dinnertime and we saw his food tray sitting there. I asked how was it??

He said he never eats the dinners there. He said "Susan, look at it". So I lifted the lid to find a grey slab of mystery meat, 2 small white canned potatoes and some grey green canned peas. And get this...this lovely gourmet meal was served on a PAPER PLATE!!!

He sits there each night and waits for his son, my nephew, to stop by with McDonalds or Burger King which he eats at about 10 pm each night.

I am beyond horrified!!

How on earth are people supposed to HEAL if they can't get decent food!!

So tonight when I visit I will take something...something with nutritional value and tasty!!

Here are the logistics. The nursing home is about 30 minutes away so whatever I take will have to be reheated in a microwave...or it can be room temp.

There is no fridge so someone will have to bring food in every day.

I do not want him to depend on sodium high canned soup/pasta type things.

I am open to all suggestions.

Tonight I am taking some pasta salad and some home made rice pudding. Maybe some fruit cut up---he cant slice things with his bad arm and all.

Overall things are really looking up for the guys!!

Thanks again for all your support!!

Cheers!

Susie
