And you can even read these without even downloading them directly at amazon and you can download a free application to download them to your home computer.

I found 206 free Ebooks on Amazon for my Kindle. Just do a search for "0.00". I downloaded 2 or 3 so far.

Hi Nancy, I have both the small Kindle3 (the WiFi model for $139 that you mentioned) and the DX, that's about 10.5 X 7 inches. I do like the increased "acreage" of the DX, however the number of page turns don't bother me on the small one and I do use one of the larger fonts. The page turns are much faster on the K3 and the page turn button is almost silent. What I like about the smaller one is that it can travel easily in my purse. Mine has been a love affair for the most part. What I love about my Paperwhite is: *I can press down on a word and get an immediate definition. *I can buy a book in bed! Some days, I have to check out the daily deals before I get out of bed. They are so cheap that I have tried out authors I have been curious about but never wanted to invest big bucks on. This is huge. I discovered Dorothy Sayers (Nine Tailors) and am currently reading Georgette Heyer's, These Old Shades. I have also found some great sci-fi for a couple of dollars. *I can read in darkened rooms and don't have to be right by a lamp. *I love knowing how many minutes are left in a chapter and what percentage of a book is left. *I really appreciate being able to change the font size. Previous to getting my Paperwhite, I read a great book with tiny font size that strained my eyes at night. Also, I read one of those tall, narrow paperbacks that was so difficult to hold open and even so, I couldn't read the print in the middle at the center of the book. *I can return to previous chapters or pages with little difficulty. *We found that my hubby could download a free Kindle app to his Nexus pad and register on my account. He can access all my books. Actually, his app is much prettier than what I have but he has to charge his pad daily. I, only once a week or so. *I love reading the magazine, Science News, on my Paperwhite. I am sold, and I was a real resister, too. Paper books still have a place. Some books are so good you want a physical copy on your shelf. I haven't paid more than $3.99 for a book yet. For a newer book that I really want to read, I will get it on audio at Audible. Over all, I am so glad my family got me this device for my birthday.

I consider a rose A-OK that gets some black spot on the oldest (lowest), foliage on its bush. That is as long as the black spot only appears from September on, no sooner, and does not loose those black spotted leaves, still staying green in spite of the black spots. It passes mustard. Any black spot starting earlier, particularly starting before The Fourth Of July , in June, and its a no-go. Bushes so affected, will usually be pretty much defoliated by August. Late season, lowest on the bush, black spotted leaves, as described above, really cause no or very little weakening of the bush. Those spotted leaves did their job all season long in building up the bush's resources to enlarge it, if a young bush, and survive winter in great shape to start off the next spring in prime shape. Also, those spotted leaves are going to be shed very soon, anyway. Unfortunately, its a trial and error process to know for sure how a new bush will perform regarding its black spot susceptibility. Although I start by doing my homework, learning all that I can about a candidate, and going by the best information available, it still needs to be trialed in ground, in my garden. Boy, how I wish I could just plant any rose bush I desired, and did not have to deal with whether or not it was black spot prone. I really want to get away from spraying because as we all know, toxic chemicals are, in the end, a losing proposition. I have tried practically all the natural/organic fungus control methods, and none of them worked effectively. I still prefer the classic, large bloomed, exhibition, hybrid tea type flower form, over the trend among contemporary rose gardeners of growing English (Austin), or Old Garden Rose flower form roses, with their quartered and often flat blooms. In spite of my preference for classic HT form, I grow and am enamoured with a number of these new trend flower form types. Fortunately, many of the modern OGR bloom style roses are highly black spot resistant or even black spot proof, especially those introduced by Kordes' ADR winners. Moses

"FWIW, I find myself using Hoopla more than Overdrive these days because it has more titles I like and ebooks are checked out for 21 days. Overdrive ebooks are checked out for 14 days here." I have two suggestions for you. For most library Overdrive accounts, the length of checkout time is changeable. Using a PC and a browser, go to your library's Overdrive home page. (You can get there with a search like "XYZ City Overdrive" or the name of the regional Overdrive cooperative membership if your library uses that, like "Southern California Digital Overdrive). Sign in, go to My Account, then Settings. If allowed by your library, you should see where the checkout time can be changed, The three choices I usually see visible are 7, 14 or 21 days. Second, my experience is that Overdrive Kindle books get wiped from the Kindle readers at the end of a checkout period ONLY if and when the Kindle reader connects to the internet. I know this because I have a family member I help to checkout Kindle content from library Overdrive services. For this purpose, I might check out 5-10 books at one time in advance of a long trip. Because I do Kndle checkouts from a PC, it's a two step process - checking out the book on the library's Overdrive page, and then requesting it be downloaded (it doesn't happen automatically and need not be done at the checkout time, it can be done later). When download is requested, a link is triggered to sign into the user's Amazon account. Once the Kindle device syncs and the books have downloaded, you can turn the Kindle's Wifi setting to Off. The downloaded books will remain on the Kindle device and will be usable until Wifi is turned back on again and an internet connection is made, which might be many months later. This means no new books can be downloaded until all on the Kindle device have been read. This matters for books that are popular and hard to get (with a wait list), doesn't matter for books in less demand.

I have absolutely been loving that new site I had posted pixelofink. Every day they have about 10 or so just free released books. I went ahead and subscribed to it so I don't miss any. The ones on that list are often not shown in in the free ebooks listings, and are only on free for one day or less.
I got some really great ones in the past week.

I just got another slew (about 25 books) of free books! My biggest challenge is categorizing them all, and moving them into the proper collection!

If you go to the Discussions forum on the Kindle page, there is a wonderful woman who posts a link every day to hundreds of free books, then other people reply with the ones from the list that they've downloaded. I watch those recommendations from other people, and I've downloaded many!

you can read any format of free ebook on your computer you can use the kindle for pc to read the kindle format books it is free and very easy to install just one click to install basically, and there is also a nook for pc to read books in the epub format. There are many other free ereader programs you can put on your pc to be able to take advantage of all these great free books.

Thank you, Ravencajun, for all of the great help that you give. As a lifelong lover of reading, I am glad to know that I can access books with the apps for my pc. When I can't get to the library, this will be a virtual library for me.

oh you are very welcome, I love finding all this stuff myself so am happy to share.
My husband and I are heavy readers also, he is a lot faster than I am so I have to work fast to keep his ereader loaded up for him LOL
We still have bookshelves full and boxes full that we have moved from home to home, that will not change but it sure is easier to put a few hundred books right in your hand.

For those of you on FB do a search there for The Literature Lady. She posts free books daily. I think I have somewhere around 60 books on my Kindle since Christmas, I've paid for 3 I think?? There is another on FB called BookLending.com, which is ok but I think I've got more from the literature lady. If you "like" them on FB you will get the notices in your feedback.

Abby the nook app reads epub format books which is the most common format so yes you can get hundreds of free epub books at many many sites.. you can download as many as you want to your pc then move them to your nook. Any of the link's I have listed for books would be a good place to start. In fact the pixelofink site also list free nook books.
