My answer to the request to make something I don't like is "ohh....I don't do ________(insert name of food here)."

All the time!

I spend hours making fried cabbage pierogi for my husband, and I don't like them. It takes two days, 5 hours for the filling the first day, and about the same the second day to make the pasta, fill the pasta, and then cook the pierogi. Wow! I'm a great wife!

I HATE strawberries, can't even stand the smell of them - hubby loves them. When I get a basket of fresh berries for him I stick them in a plastic vegetable bag at the grocery store, or else I have to drive home with all the windows open so that I don't smell them. He's kind enough to fix them.

My MIL hated fish of any kind - the smell made her gag. My FIL would make her stand over the stove and fry him fish EVERY FRIDAY. She was the happiest person in the world when the Church eliminated meatless Fridays (except during lent).

Larry and Rob loved stuffed green peppers. I can't stand green peppers, but I made them for the guys. And, apparently, I make the BEST stuffed peppers. Don't know how you can make something *that* good without taste testing to see if it needs "just a little more of this or that". But I guess I managed. LOL

Jambalaya, but I finally caved and made it the first time for my husband's birthday and am now regretting because I'm betting it will be regularly requested. It froze well so all's not lost, I will probably make a separate dish for myself and the kids next time.

I make meat for friends and family all the time, and I don't really like it.
That's why I so appreciate it when friends or family show vegetarian-me the same consideration.

My DH loves salmon patties and I wouldn't eat one if you paid me. I am going to try making them for him though, because I love him :)

My husband and son love tomato sauce. ME? I prefer EVOO and garlic on my pasta. But since they love tomato sauce I seem to make it at least 2 times a week for them. I mean, I eat it (sometimes) but I really dont care for it so much.

Being the cook, I get to choose what will be cooked! Once in awhile I will break down and do baby beef liver with onions for Howard....maybe once a year. That is about the only thing I can think of that he loves but doesn't appeal to me.

Well, there's not much that I REALLY dislike (count on one hand).

Hubby doesn't "request" much because he likes everything too! Sometimes he'll comment that I haven't made a certain dish for awhile, but it's always something we both like.

We are meat eaters and I DO make vegetarian things sometimes for my daughter that moved back in. Usually it's an adaptation. I made meatballs and vegetarian spaghetti sauce so she could eat it. We added the meat to ours.

Kathleen, I have NEVER cooked ribs for him...he knows better than to even think to ask! He knows where he can get really good take-out!

I am fortunate in that my husband likes just about everything. So, I pretty much cook what I want to cook, and he's happy. There really aren't that many foods that I flat out dislike...as long as a dish is prepared well, I'm usually o.k. with it.

I do NOT like Sea Cucumber, Chinese Bitter Melon, and am not all that wild about fresh lima beans (the dried ones are fine). Since I don't like the first two, I've never bothered to learn how to prepare them, and there are never any fresh lima beans in the store anyway, so I'm safe from those.

I suppose if my husband had a passionate desire to eat any of those three things, I'd do my best to make them for him...I just wouldn't eat them.

Fortunately, there aren't many foods I dislike. But DH enjoys tongue meat, which I find "objectionable." Preparing it doesn't rate high on my list of favorite tasks.

But he's a good person, he doesn't push it, and I do fix it once in a while. I just figure it's what partnership is all about - doing favors for each other.

I am happy to make Moe or Matthew anything that they want as long as I don't have to eat something I didn't like.

I cook a lot of things I don't like for Moe. With the exception of halibut I could care less about fish. Occasionally I'll cook a fish that he loves. I just don't eat it.

I hate oatmeal but cook it for him often. And not the instant kind either. And of course there is the dreaded carrot. Moe loves carrots, I hate them. And salads. Last week I made him salads three times for lunch. Made the salad before leaving for work. Mixed up a dressing for him and just left them in the fridge. All he had to do was drizzle on the dressing.

I cook things for my DH that I don't care for (and sometimes even eat them). I also have had to cook things in various restaurants I have worked in, that I wouldn't eat. I had compliments galore on my salmon steaks, and I wouldn't eat salmon on a bet. The slightly annoying thing is, DH won't eat things *I* like that he doesn't, so I either have to cook two meals, or indulge when we go out to eat.

My DH and kids love it... I get queasy just buying it. But I make it for them at least once a week... it is SOOOOOOOOOO healthy!

I cook very little that I personally do not like. Hubby makes his own scalloped oysters. (I told him, you're going to have to find a substitute for all that BUTTER you put in those. We know he can use crackers with unsalted tops.) As a matter of fact, his mother taught him to make them years ago. Then this past Thanksgiving, she surprised the heck out of us by calling US to ask him what she needed to buy to make scalloped oysters! After he told her, she let him know that he was expected to make scalloped oysters for Thanksgiving while we were out there. I think DH was going to faint! (His mother is a FANTASTIC cook.)

I *will* start the process of fried gizzards and hearts for him, but I don't like it. I dip them (these days in Egg Beaters) and roll them (nowadays in wheat bran, though he doesn't know that!), but he "fries" them (in very little canola oil).

I can't think of anything my DH likes me to cook that I don't also like. We seem to have the same likes and very few dislikes so they never become an issue in our house. And we both like light meals as well as fish and liver, without too much other red meat, plenty of fruit, veg and salads. He also likes some meatless days and goes along with whatever I prepare.

As we also go out a lot to eat he would be able to order any unusual foods at that time, but he doesn't make any choices that I wouldn't also eat.

Oh, g*d, sauerkraut. How I hate the stuff, what a waste of good cabbage. And the smell...Ehhhh. And brocolli, right up there. the only way I will touch it is doused in a spicy strong sauce of some kind, like an asian stir fry. But I will make it to keep peace.

Other than that I will try anything once and even cook it.

I'm with Ann...I'll cook whatever he/they want...and eat something else..

Sushi and sashimi.

My DH loves it, which we laugh about all the time. He's Chinese-Portugese, Hong-Kong born, first generation and NEVER had raw fish growing up (Chinese aren't big on raw foods of any type, for the most part). I'm Japanese American third generation, and sushi to me is picnic food, the same level as a hot dog. In fact, I'd prefer a hot dog with sauerkraut. Sushi is commonplace and uninteresting to me, sorta like a cheap deli macaroni salad.

It's easy to make - time-consuming to make different types, though - so I know how to make excellent sushi. I just don't care for it, personally. Give me a salmon teriyaki or chicken donburi anyday! Even better, break out the filet mignon, LOL.

My son loves split pea soup...the smell gags me, but I make it for him. I don't like cooked peas and when the kids were young, I'd cook them up and either tell them I wasn't that hungry or try to hide them under some other food :) Got caught once, the gig was up and had to eat the teaspoon that was required at our table :0
I have an aversion to Ham Hock and Bean Soup...My mother used to make it on Saturdays, had it on the stove while she was bleaching her hair, then under the dryer...I can't help but associate that smell combo...gak.

Every year, I made a Christmas cake for my partner/ex-partner who died last year. I wouldn't and couldn't eat Christmas cake even if someone held a gun to my head. (I'd take the bullet - all those little dead black flies!). But he loved his Christmas cake, so I made him one. The smell of it permeated the house to a nauseating degree, but I made him one. I couldn't even stand to watch him eat it, but I made him one.

I must be completely nuts. The things we do.....

I will not, under ANY circumstances, cook pumpkin for anybody. I'm as near as dammit to being pumpkinphobic.

ROFL! Another green lima bean hater! I could live without eating beef liver ever again too...although I don't mind calf liver. It's a texture thing with both of them, I think. Green lima beans and liver both have an odd, grainy texture...the calves liver is more smooth.

My mother used to make beef liver...under the broiler...until it curled. :P

I actually have the opposite problem - I like more things that DB, and so I have to limit myself to things that he likes. I can't think of anything that he likes that I don't, since his list of likes is much smaller than mine. Oh, my brother likes coffee on week-ends, but he goes to the French Market Café down the street to get a cup to go. I like coffee - it just doesn't like me. I make things with cream and cheese that I really shouldn't eat - not because I don't like them - but for the same reason as coffee.

Maybe I'm just a &%^@$ but I figure if Kim wants something with either of those, she can make it herself. There are so many options of things we both like. I mean, I never get to make true spaghetti, because she doesn't like spaghetti...but will eat other forms of pasta.

We like the same things except for oysters , clams and salmon-- doesn't bother me to fix for him-- just don't expect me to eat the stuff.

I will not cook liver or brussel sprouts...not even for DH.

Anything else I'll cook & just not eat if it's high on my person 'yuck' scale.

Oh, I also will not add green pepper to anything because it seems to take over everything within 20' of the stove & that, to me, is soooo not "Good Eats"!

DH is easy to please. He's so grateful for a home cooked meal. His Mom didn't cook much & his first wife never cooked. So, I'm lucky...he thinks anything I prepare is wonderful & I'm not telling him different! :)

I think my disdain for brussel sprouts is well documented. Good rule of thumb - never eat anything that smells the same going in as it does coming out.

If I hadn't in the past cooked things I didn't like, I would never have tried them and determined that I presently like those food items. There are other things I have yet to develop a taste for, but I will still cook them. Afterall, I'm not the only one sitting at the table for a meal, doesn't mean I'll eat it, but I will prepare it. Lamb is one thing that pops into my mind. I'll make it, but I certainly won't eat it - not matter what.

My Mom makes banana bread that everyone loves except me. I don't like food with nuts,it's the texture.

Single here so that is not much of a challenge for me when cooking on a daily basis. When entertaining or having a party I cook what I like, some may not like some of it but there is always plenty of other options to pick from. My group is picky so I try to offer a couple of options if it is a big dinner or party....but I do make things I like as I will be eating the leftovers.

The few things that come to mind tonight are Oatmeal Raisin Cookies for my nephews...they love them but I can't do raisins in anything. Their DM isn't a baker so I treat them when I have time.

I have a BIL that loves cornbread dressing and greens for TG. I add that to the must have sides when he is here. The dressing is okay but I'll pass on the greens...I think they are collard greens...not sure as I have to google for a recipe everytime...lol!

I'm sure there might be a few other things I make for a friend or family member but I can't think what it might be at the moment.

I'm lucky in that my DH likes most foods. He definitely tends towards meat and potatoes and away from vegetables, but he basically eats almost anything I put in front of him, and happily. My 4 year old ds is a different story-and to boot, he has allergies to milk and eggs-so I am constantly cooking things that I am not too crazy about, just so he has something to eat along with the rest of us.

I do refuse to cook with shitake (sp?) mushrooms-can't stand the taste or texture, and the smell makes me gag. Whenever I look up a Korean recipe that calls for these, I just mentally cross it right out.

There's many things I cannot eat due to allergies or intolerances and those I'm happy to fix for the family. I'd never touch a brussels sprout, but I've become quite adept at fixing them for DH, as he loves them. What won't I fix? LIVER! DH likes it but I was quite clear from the day we met, I don't do liver!

Only when paid to do it. (I was a line cook for several years and cooked all kinds of things I didn't like -- liver, oysters, split pea soup all come to mind immediately.)

If DH wants something I don't like, he prepares it himself by his choice. He knows where the kitchen is and is as good (if not better) cook than I am. Besides, neither of us would ask nor expect the other to cook some detested food for the other person.

I find it hard to cook fish... fins and scale type. I'm highly allergic to it, and find it hard to cook something I can't even taste to know what a process is doing to the flavor/texture. And, I'm told, difference fishes have different flavors and textures..... more complication. I have made some fish dishes by following a recipe exactly.

There are other foods that I don't care for, but do make for DH because he loves them... sausage being one.

I will NOT cook anything with more than 4 legs.

Westelle, I once told my husband I won't eat anything with less than 2 or more than 4 legs. So I can eat poultry,beef or pork. On doctor's orders, I avoid all organ meats and shellfish. I used to love beef or calves liver,but I don't like touching the meat raw. So I would only eat fried liver (usually with onions and bacon) if on a restaurant menu.

Mine is easy...I don't do fried eggs but DH loves them. So I try to make them sunny side up although I find that disgusting. I am getting better but still cook it a tad too long.
