Furnace keeps starting/stopping

Howdy folks,

I've just noticed my furnace behaving somewhat erratically... I'm actually getting a guy out to give me a quote on a new one tomorrow because I wanted to up the efficiency a bit (current model about 80% efficient) but I'm wondering if the current one is actually dying anyway.

What it'll do is I see a bright orange ring glowing inside (the lighter maybe?) with a fan/engine running. Then some gas pumps in, all the burners light up, then they pretty much go out right away and the fan/lighter turn off.

10-15 seconds later, the same cycle. The fan/engine whirs up, the ring glows orange, the burners all light up, then it all goes off again.

I have the temperature differential on my thermostat set to 2 degrees, and the temperature seems to be hovering around where I have the thermostat set (52 degrees).

Could my thermostat be broken? It's a battery operated digital unit... Or is this potentially something up with the furnace itself?
