Furnace stops holding temp. settings

Nicor gas came by and changed out the old meter for a new one-it seems like the problem started there, but I could be totally wrong. Even with a new thermostat, the furnace will not run the program; it seems to be running about 5 degrees under what the settings are. For example last night it was set to maintain 65 but only managed 58. Its a newer Lennox gas unit with a humidifier attached. Its is very cold where I live but that has never been a problem in the past. Freezing, please help.

does it run constantly or shut off then come back on later

Here's what I've discovered after some further investigating. If I switch the power to the furnace off then back on I hear a few clicks then it runs perfectly and shuts off at the proper setting but doesn't come back on unless I repeat the above procedure.Even stranger, the humidifier was running when the furnace was off.What do you think?

lol... My last propane bill was $900, so I lowered the temp a bit. It seems to be running a bit better at 54 degrees. Last month I had the thermostat set between 56-62 (up to 62 for maybe 5 hours a day) and that scored me the $900 bill. I turned it down this month to see how much impact it'd have on the bill, but that's when I noticed it doing this little start/restart routine.

Is the wall sealed behind the thermostat where the wires come through the wall? This could throw off the readings.

IIRCC,that is a gas upflow with induced draft. The fault can be a few different things. You really need a vom to find what's failing. Do you have a vom and know how to use it? If not,determine from listening wherther draft motor is running during the failure to heat. Gently move wires at connections inside furnace instead of cycling t-stat and power. BTW,while cover is off furnace you must hold door safty disconnect switch on.

What is age of AC? What size is your AC? When was the last time it was serviced? How long have you lived in home? Has it always been unable to maintain your temp comfort level at high outside temperatures? Just curious but why have you not called a dealer? Your situation is not normal for a properly sized and correctly operating system. You will get some supply temp variances within a home but 5 degrees is too much. That could indicate some ductwork leaks. How many returns do you have? Sorry for your trouble.

it sounds like the t-stat had gone bad. not trying to say anything bad but was the new t-stat installed by a a/c teck because i have had homeowners try and install t-stats before and miswire them. also have hade tecks miswire also. and or the new t-stat could be bad out of the box, i have that happen too.
