Are these a sham? Salt rock lamps

Has anyone tried these? They are supposed to release negative ions into the air to give you a happy/balanced feeling while purifying the air. If true, I would like to put one in the bedroom and maybe in the living room where we hang out.

If you have tried these, do you recommend them?

Do you feel physically better? Does your air feel healthier?

Does it get hot?

I have seen lots of beautiful geodes resting on tables in home decor mags and always thought THOSE were the lamps. Today I went to look them up and was disappointed to see that they are weird orange blobby shaped things. Is yours funky orange or did you find it in a less offensive color? Prettier colors/ more natural looking would be good! :OD

Normally I would dismiss this as too good to be true, but I am a bit conflicted because I believe in a lot of healthy home concepts. Googling brings up lots of great things being said about them... all by stores that sell them.

This is one of those crazy things I have always been curious about, but have never known an actual salt rock lamp owner to ask. If they don't work, I don't want it sucking energy in my home.

I googled the lamps, they are in abundance on many sites, including
www.saltlampforless.com , who claim the above.

I personally never believe the miraculous claims on those sites, but that's just me, always sceptical. I believe people think positive thoughts looking at the symbolic item, hence the renewed energy they might experience.

Real life testimonial is what we need, lol......

You know what they say about "too good to be true".

There is absolutely NO SCIENCE to support their claims. You can't cheat physics, as I always say.

Duane, I too can't wait for fresh tomatoes with some salt. That is my absolute favorite as well. I bought my sister a gift box of salt from the Himalayan salt site. Not only were the varied salts wonderful (the block of pink salt particularly), but the packaging was lovely as well. Sherrmann - that is really interesting. It must be some weird taste thing, but it sounds like his body has found a way to compensate. I can understand being sensitive to fructose, the sugar in fruits (does he eat other sweet things?), but the vegetable thing is weird. Do they take suplements? Getting your vit and min through whole foods is the best bet, but it sounds like for them supplements might be a good idea. We also have deer wandering through the property, but they've stayed farther away since we got the dumb mutt. They're clearly not afraid of her, since they just look at her when she barks, but they do keep a respectful distance now. AM

I know this sounds odd, but I would remove the final pointy ends from the posts on the bed, as on your first inspiration photo. To me it looks very odd. I would definitely do simple curtain panels reaching to the floor and also a rug to give some softness to this room with so much wood. Perhaps very light blue walls with a green and cream bedspread and cream curtains.

Handy Guy is one of my favorite humans. He was unavailable for a little over a year in 2015 when he became an estate manager for some very fancy people with multiple homes in far flung regions. Gave it up after trying to keep up with home life and his poor dogs, as his required traveling time had more than doubled over the year. So excited to have him available again, literally could not have made this move without him. During the lockdown he was here daily for move in issues, wallpaper, pantry reconfiguration, new sinks everywhere, etc. etc. etc. When DH was hospitalized and I did not leave the hospital for months at a time Handy Guy was at our house once a week checking on all systems and keeping things up. DS2 was there but in school and just taking care of the dogs. We never needed our village more. Babyproofing now! Great idea Renovator Girl! I’ve been thinking solely of cribs and rockers for their room here and baby clothes. (WHY are baby sweaters so cute? Anybody?) We are still renovating downstairs bathroom and some choices … with baby in mind. I hear you about Forest Lawn, Mtn. From the looks of the size of your former house on another thread you have more extra furniture than anybody. Just keep in mind that you may have to pay your kids to take it, lol, or just show up with a moving truckful as they are settling into a new place and need it :-) The desk and blackboard are essentially the same width. I will be hanging the blackboard just a few inches above the hutch part so it will look like a single column of color on that wall. My goal with this room is to make DS and GF want to come and visit “their” bedroom, Nuts. I hope it works! Outside, has your desk been delivered? If so, is it as pictured? I appreciate the “tastefully masculine“ Jojoco. Some might disagree about the yellow and cream, but then again the GF needs to be taken into account and DS also still had his childhood teddy bear on the old bed after the move. Bunny, Let’s just saya future graveyard bedroom has not been ruled out. 😎

I‘ve never had one myself. but I literally just a minute ago ordered a salt rock nightlight for my powder room! It doesn’t look like a glowing rock, though. It has a metal cover over it with 2 elk on it, which unlike most nightlights, works well with my Native American bathroom. Saltrock is an interesting concept, though. One I haven’t paid much attention to . . . until today. Helpful emitted ions won’t do much good in a powder room, I’m thinking (LOL), but the nightlight fits, and that’s what I’m mainly interested in.

Why not try having a bowl of sea salt laying around and see if that works? To me, feeling happier was to be somewhere where there was abundant sunshine. The clouds and cold and snow always made me depressed. The sunshine and blue skies here in AZ put a smile on my face. The birds singing, the mountain views, all add to happiness.

One of the agents in the RE office where I work has one of these (which I have seen sold in a grocery store here). While I like the look of it, I think that you can take any health claims with a grain of salt ;)

Thanks for bringing me back down to earth. I guess I just needed to hear other people confirm my doubts.

I have been in the market for an air purifier and heard that a rock could do it for me. LOL, saying it like that, I guess it does sound silly. I read one site that said you only had to clean the surface weekly (because it would attract all the dust in the air).

:O/ I'm feeling rather silly for asking.

Don't feel silly for asking. Sometimes those Kirby salesmen/Bergere Lamp websites/herbal weight loss emails/Mary Kay seminars/ect can be really convincing if they catch one in the right frame of mind. If they were not, they would not be in business long. They always catch a few fish.

Better to ask on an anonymous board than to bring it up at work. You are safe here. You will be protected from that Amway guy's pitch and you will never refinance your loan with junk bonds.

I have found through experience that it is always better to ask when in doubt.
