TGIF - 2/15 Is it spring yet?

We're having a bit of a heatwave here - it's supposed to hit the mid-40's. Woohoo! Still, it's windy and there are lots of white caps out on the water.

Man, what a long week! I'm looking forward to a quiet start to school vacation. Tomorrow will be the usual errands, then the state meet Sunday. Then, NOTHING!!!

Whose kids are on vacation next week? I know it might be a long weekend for some with Presidents' Day, but we don't celebrate that in RI. Odd, I know. But we get Victory Day in August, which I appreciate more during the summer. Actually, I think we should have both, but that's probably why I'm not the governor. No, on second thought, there are many other reasons I'm not the governor.

I know most of the country is still covered in snow, but I hope at least some of our CF friends are starting to see things turn warmer, maybe even some green popping up.

For those of you still celebrating Valentine's Day this weekend, I hope you do something special and it's the best yet.

Hi Lori,

It's windy here too in central Florida, and we have lots of whitecaps at the beach. However, the high here is 78 today. Too warm already for my tastes, but I don't have a choice:-) I hope your wrist and elbow are feeling better, good news to read that they weren't broken.

The boys are off from school on Monday, and the courts are closed too for President's Day. Spring Break doesn't start in Brevard County until the second week of April. It's a good two weeks later this year than last.

We have two basketball games tomorrow, then DH and I are going out to dinner tomorrow night for belated Valentines Day. I hope your weekend is very restful (and everyone else's too!). Clinking to all with a cup of Sumatra. Happy Friday!

Hi all! Happy Friday~

Lori, my son isn't off all week, just Monday; President's Day. I love days off. No schedules to adhere to and we just kinda coast by.

Donna enjoy your dinner out with your hubs tomorrow night.

The only plans we have for the weekend is for Sunday, we're going to my MIL's house for a luncheon with a family member from NY who is down visiting. Husband's side. He says he doesnt even know her. hahah! Should be fun eh? I'm taking a green salad with mandarin oranges,sliced almonds and rice noodles and a dish of roasted red peppers.

Today is the anniversary of the day I met my husband, 18 yrs ago. Woo Wee! Time flies when you're having fun. We'll probably go grab a bite to eat tonight and have a little toast to the 'good ol days' and a bigger toast to what's to come!

Have a terrific weekend everyone! Stay warm, I know we will.

I suppose that my garden fare is not to their liking. During the 40+ years I've lived at this address, have only seen 4, a wild Doe and 2 Kits, about 15 years ago. They only hung around for a couple of days and disappeared. A one-time neighbor owned an Aussie White Buck that would escape his cage occasionally and come down for a Hosta salad, until I invited the owners to join me for a tasty rabbit stew. Never saw him again. We used to have a pair of red foxes in a den down by the creek and now coyotes are spotted occasionally, maybe they have kept the rabbit population under control? I would rather have them around than these darn squirrels, at least they don't dig in EVERY blasted pot on the premises or dig up every new planting or somehow manage to get into my attic. It's a constant battle, for each one I trap and relocate miles away, it seems that 2 or 3 replace it. RB

Not exactly spring here today! Was 9 last nite, and got ALL THE WAY up to 25 today--even with the sun out! But it sure was spring on Thursday when I took these pics! I have the first few yellow Crocus chrysanthus blooming in three different spots in my yard. These are C. chrysanthus 'Goldilocks', and they were planted in January 2013, so this is the first year I'm getting to see them bloom for real! There's a ring of Crocus planted around the little Dianthus in the middle, and besides the gold there's C. biflorus 'Purity', a white, and C. tommasinianus 'Ruby Giant', a dark red. I'm hopin' the other colors will start to bloom before the gold ones are done! My hybrid Crocus, the larger flowered ones, have been growing all winter again. The first year I noticed them coming up in November I freaked out, but now I'm used to it and I know they'll wait till "the right time" to bloom! They're always later than the species Crocus, often starting around when the first ones are just about done. Many, many of my perennials are starting to show signs of life too, and I sure hope they don't get too rambunctious! Sounds like we'll be getting a full week of warm weather coming up starting tomorrow (near 70 on Thursday???), and last year when everything woke up too early I had a lot of stuff clobbered when we got that sudden HARD freeze. Some things, lilies and other stuff, that were way too big, way too early, never did recover last summer and now I'm waiting to see if they made it at all and if they'll come up this year! Have my fingers crossed! The few tulips I have that I got from TreeBarb at a swap even froze! Tulips don't freeze! They're starting to come up again, so I know they survived, but I think I'll need to wait a while longer to see if they have enough energy to bloom this year! I have dafs a few inches high in a couple places, hyacinths 2-3" high, and other bulbs putting in their appearance too. Whoa, little guys, whoa! Keep your heads tucked in a little bit longer! I'd rather see you later than to not get to see you at all! But this is definitely the time of year when things start to get exciting! Things are getting greener, the days are getting longer, and daylight saving time in just a week! It'll be light out till 7:00! Love it! I don't want 'em to bloom too soon---but I can't wait to see them either! Skybird

Howdie Everyone!! I know I am late being its Saturday evening LOL!! I will raise a glass of water you all!! Yesterday was my day off and Drew had off as well so not wanting to be left out Frank took off as well. It was a grueling week here in our fine city. A cop, a very young cop was killed in the line of duty. Its just so sad. There are no words to express how gut wrenching it was to watch his young widow-5 months pregnant during the viewing. Did I know him?? Gosh you guys are gonna think I have tons of cop friends but honestly I don't but yea I did know him, well I knew him thru my Brother Stephen and his son, my nephew Stephen. I met him and Kim at Stephen Jr's engagement party last October. John was to be in the wedding party. When big Steve was hospitalized last spring, John made sure SIL had a police parking permit as the center city parking was horrendous. Frank says he met him at the hospital but I do not recall that at all. I did go to high school with his aunt. I also have a dear co worker who very suddenly, lost her husband on Tuesday. One minute he was sitting in his chair so Linda headed out to have her after supper smoke, she returned and he was blue. It was a massive heart attack. They were common law husband and wife and from what I have recently learned about it, Pa is not common law friendly. These 2 were very poor. Davey carried no life insurance so Linda was forced to have him cremated. Its still very costly so I have been collecting to help her family out. They have 3 children. Linda is the lady who gave me my dog Gretchen. I have been cooking for them and I plan to stop by with everything tomorrow. So with all this sadness, we decided to get out of dodge and go to a nearby home and garden show, after we went to Ikea. Last week Ikea had a sale on a 3 drawer chest so we popped in but it was so crowded we just got 2 chests and went home. We had a very late lunch and came home. Today I had to work but when I got home I finished my family room painting project!! Now I just have to do a good cleaning and stage the room. Tomorrow I also have to work but I plan to visit my friend early in the day before I go in. There are lots of new listings in and around our target area so Frank plans on taking Drew for a drive to take a look before we ask for a showing...gosh I am just overwhelmed with all the options!! I have a full week of work ahead of me but next week DD has her spring break and she has scheduled her wisdom teeth extraction!! YIKES!! So I plan to take a few days off to tend to her. With any luck she'll be ok by Friday of that week so we can go to the flower show!! Sorry to have such a depressing TGIF here...hopefully next week will bring some better news!! Cheers to you all!! It seems like ages since I've TGIF'd...happy weekend, all! I knew our early spring was too good to be true...it's snowing like crazy right now. Hopefully it'll clear out before the community Easter egg hunt tomorrow. I just finished glazing a pineapple carrot cake to be auctioned off at our Chamber of Commerce's spud bar fundraiser dinner. We'll head in shortly to help set up for it. Tomorrow is work and it's book sale day, so I won't get much else done. That carrot cake smelled so good I think I'll bake another one for our Easter dessert. The kid is coming up on Sunday, apparently she is mired in tax forms and boyfriend-less this weekend. DH has been taking out some dead trees, if the snow melts we'll burn brush. We'll have a ham ...sides will depend on my mood on Sunday. Maybe some asparagus if it looks decent. Maybe a fruit salad, some rolls. If there are leftovers tonight I can make a donation for potatoes, green onions, sour cream and shredded cheese...almost everything we need for our favorite potato casserole. It's been green here all winter, due to the rain we've had. It always looks like spring here in the winter; the fruit trees started blooming about a month ago, and the Carolina jasmine is blooming on the bougainvillea that drapes over from the neighbor's yard. It's supposed to be in the low 70s this week-end, and so it will seem like spring, even though it was in the low 60s mid week. I can see snow on the mountains, however, and the snow level is about 3000 feet, I think, which is pretty low, but it looks nice from a distance. East of San Diego, they closed part of I8 yesterday, due to snow.

I'm looking forward to meeting Annie in Laguna tomorrow. DB will bring his video camera, in case people are willing to be videoed. Outlook is very sunny for the week-end - Annie will probably be wearing shorts.

Go ahead Donna and Shaun, rub it in, 78F is just in my dreams! It's 14F right now and going down below 0 tonight. There's also more snow predicted for Sunday... brrrrrr

My friend David, just took off for Fl...putting a house on the market in Punta Gorda Isles...

No weekend plans here, just going to try to stay warm. I'm getting better at some of the Wii games...I'll be playing golf this weekend... ;)

Hello everyone!
Well our kids only get off Pres Day this year..They got an extra long Winter Break (used to be called Christmas Break), and so this year they don't have the "mid winter" break..
The weather here today seems to be about 40 something..gray..and quite calm actually..a few rain drops here and there..I've got my little one home sick. On Tuesday he had 9 kids out of class for sickness. I knew it was only a matter of time.
It's supposed to be clear all weekend..so we'll see if we get to enjoy much with him not feeling up to par.
We've got basketball in the morning..and then after that I'm supposed to spend a few hours at the Baseball fields..we have our Major Division tryouts starting next Saturday, so got to prep the fields..they've been let go all fall and winter...
Other than that..not much on the plans..

Donna and Shaun, have a wonderful Date with Hubby..I might drag my hubby out for one too..if Kamren perks up quickly.

Lars, I just wanna come stand in your yard and sniff!!
I bet Annie will be sporting those sexy long legs of hers! LOL

Nancy, Have fun getting your exercise indoors! LOL I've been told that the Wii boxing is the best work out ever! That alone should be a good justification to get one..LOL

Hubby will have none of it though..

Still pretty cold here. Several days of zero weather and now it seems like a heatwave at 19 F. Working as much as I can stand on my tractor to get the snow moved back before the next storm. If I don't get it well cleared the propane truck won't be able to deliver and I'll go without heat.

Supposed to have Sunday off work. I don't know how that can happen because we are three weeks behind on the product I'll be working on. It would not surprise me to see Sunday posted when I go in today. Don't matter to me either way. I hate working every day but the money helps. Seems like bills just pop out of nowhere.

I am itching for spring too and yesterday was good therapy.

I took a vacation day and puttered in the garden beds. Planted peas, lettuce, spinach, chard, carrots and radishes.

We'll see if they make it!! It was a little breezy, but sunny and about 50 degrees. Ahhh...I can TASTE spring! Wait, that may be the dirt under my nails..........nevermind.

I clinked last night with me sweetie and will again later tonight!!

Definitely Spring here. All kinds of things blooming - The huge pink Hawthorne-berry bushes around my complex, trees I don't know the name of, birds of paradise, etc. I'll have to take lots of pictures in Laguna Beach tomorrow.

Chilly but tolerable in NW CT. At least the sun shone this afternoon. It was lousy Wed driving up and I stayed in the cave yesterday (made pot roast). Had dinner at friends' home with another couple. Can't wait for spring (Aries, that I am). Got the winter blahs, actually.

Tonight is a quiet dinner, just the two of us then watch a movie. Tomorrow we'll eat out again.

The gigantic news is that the DD and DSIL made an offer on a house and it's been accepted! Yikes, it was so fast. I am thrilled for them but so conflicted.
Spent at least 10 hours a week with my babies (they live 17 blocks away = 8 minute drive), now what will I do?
Right! I am, clink! Happy weekend all!

It was 43 and sunny here in MA today. My kids are off all next week. We will head north to ski sometime during the week. Winter is still definitely here.

BUT

today I saw a flock of geese. Heading NORTH. Yay!

Life has been crazy around here for what seems like forever. I've not had much forum time and I've missed posting to this thread in what seems like forever. I dare to say that I see some kind of normal coming back into my life and it is very welcomed!

Nasty weekend here weather wise. Sleet tonight, major rain/storms tomorrow, and a dusting of snow on Sunday. I'm planning on putting up some new blinds in my bedroom and bathroom, those flowerly window coverings have to go. I feel like I'm sleeping in a flower shop! I see some baking happening along with a couple of pots of stew or soup for the freezer. Might make some stock too. I'd love to play in my garage but it's to cold for this guy to do that. That and the normal chores that I've neglected due to a crazy work schedule.

Damn! This cold has got to stop! We get a "teaser" day of 30-40F then BAM! Back into the sub-zero crap!

All this "weather" has my joints aching like crazy!

Hoping to take advantage of the balmy 32 degree day tomorrow to go to my sister's and use her heavy duty sewing machine. I am upholstering an antique footstool frame I got last summer at a garage sale, but my machine won't sew thru leather.

Then maybe some more attempts at bread making on Sunday....we'll see what kind of mood I'm in when the mercury plummets again!

For all of you "puttering in the garden"....i am green with envy! LOL

I'm not even going to acknowledge anyone puttering in the garden! You wretched people!

Snow, snow and guess what more predicted!

Tomorrow we will go to the cottage, no big yippee here, the septic bed is frozen and it needs to be dealt with somehow or other....if not ....no cottage until spring.

Hopefully it can be dealt with but......sh!t ...which in this case is appropriate! LOL....NOT

Oh sure, puttering in your gardens when I have 10 inches of snow on the ground! Y'all are as bad as my BFF who called from Arizona just to leave a message on my machine saying that her doors and windows were all open to enjoy the nice spring weather, then she cackeled (it could not be called a laugh!) and hung up! She knew darn well it was 9 degrees and snowing here that day! By the way, we're down to 10 inches because it was 34 and sunny here today so we had a bit of a thaw. Now some counties have a flood warning and some have a winter storm warning! I can't wait for April!

I had to go buy a white blouse today for a school thing, I hate wearing blouses, they are never cut to fit me. I'm short (5'2") and the bust seams are halfway down my rib cage! I look like I'm wearing a sack! But to make up for it I bought a new spring dress today (got it 60% off!) with a flower print, ruffled bottom, smocking under the bust, and off the shoulder flutter sleeves. My husband wolf whistled when I modeled it for him (blush). Unfortunately I'll freeze if I wear it!
