Comments (3)Faye, thank you for your concern! All's well here although fifteen minutes southwest from us 30 people lost their houses, long fence sections were torn down, bbqs down, cars damaged, etc. no losses of lives, thank goodness! We're so grateful we escaped any damage. The hostas were all tucked under a tree, neck to neck or pot to pot..the larger hostas providing shelter for the smaller ones...couple leaves seemed to be bent but not broken. Missed the hail, whew! Here is a pic or two of some of the Angus homes damage......See MoreNervous Breakdown-warning!!! may be offensive
Comments (14)Thanks guys, things are getting better and the sun is shining again today. My DD did call last night about 10:45, woke me up, said there had been a hold up at gun point on campus, not far from the sorority house where she was at, and by not far I mean like 50 yards away. The campus does have security and an escort service to see you to your dorm or where ever. Since DD and others are there early for sorority stuff I'm not sure if security is at full staff right now. She called to let me know that she was fine and all involved are fine, because she knew I would see this on the news this morning and worry. Why let me get a good nights sleep and worry the next day when you can call and wake me up and let me sleep fitfully the rest of the night. This does worry me, but what can you do? I caution DD to be aware of her surroundings and to not walk anywhere alone after dark and if something like this should happen to her, to give them anything they want because nothing is worth your life....See MoreFloating Vanity Warning for Condo Owners: WATCH OUT FOR FALLING .....
Comments (40)I'm glad you were able to do it and I do hope it lasts. I don't see, anywhere, how the absolute front of the cabinet structure is supported from weight focused at the front (most likely location), especially if that weight were to be left and right or twist-like challenging the joints (kid dancing or otherwise moving left and right) or up and down (kid jumping up and down). I see no triangles. But if that setup truly works long-term in real life, then you're a better man that me for conjuring it up. You may be able to stand on it when freshly installed, but can you after a couple years? I become concerned then and that's why, with this type of box construction anyway, I wouldn't put my name on that, ever... I mean no offense. Cheap particle board degrades over time with humidity, movement, weight. If we're talking furniture-grade MDF or plywood... okay, I'm more comfortable....See MoreContemplating New Construction - Advice/Warnings?
Comments (28)Ideally, I would not undertake this within two years of having a new baby. It is a stressful process and may result in some degree of marital tension (ahem). My husband and I discovered that our approaches to decision-making are completely different. One of us wants to get it right, and the other wants to get it done. Both approaches have advantages and drawbacks, but nothing highlights this difference more than trying to build a house together. On top of that, we went through most of the process of buying a lot, choosing a design+build firm, designing a floor plan, and almost all of the construction while living out of state from where we were building! In the end (it's been 16 months since we started the process and we're about a week from completion), it has been both better and worse than we thought it would be. But if I had my way, I would STILL be tweaking that floor plan......See Moretoxcrusadr
