Valentine Swap Paired with a Virtual Dinner

It has been a while since we had a swap or a Virtual dinner. Thought it was time to have another and that it might be fun to pair the two together with a Valentine Theme.

For those that haven't participated in a Virtual Dinner before, this is how it works.....We choose a day, usually a Saturday night and we cook a "virtual dinner" together, sharing the details from the planning of the menu, to setting the table , cooking preparations , and posting photos and updates through out dinner. Some members even invite guests. It can be casual or as formal as you want. Everyone does their own thing, but we do it together......if that makes sense. :-).

For those that aren't familiar with our Cooking Forum Swaps.... It is a Secret Swap. You only know who you are sending to. You won't know who you are receiving from until your swap box arrives. More details to follow.

I don't think I can do the dinner (it's complicated), but I would like to participate in the swap, for the first time!

That's so funny! That time I thought you were just being silly! Good news at the dentist always makes for a better day! Yay! Lisa - I'm so sorry that I've been remiss in taking time to post on the board that I received my prize package from you. I sent you an e-mail when it arrived on Monday. I hope you received it. To everyone else - Lisa sent me the nicest box of prizes from last month's games. For some game when I was the next person to post (it seems like we were waiting for Tracy to materialize but I don't remember why) she sent me some nice gloves and plant markers. For finding that tiny Christmas tree, thereby putting an end to her 'I Spy' game, she sent me a plant off of my want list. She chose to give me Phlox 'Orange Perfection'. I was very excited to get this, as I've never seen it in my area. And, just because she's so sweet, Lisa sent me another start from Larry's iris collection! I'm a lucky girl!

everyone did a spectacular job. i had hoped to join in, but other things got in the way. i actually did some baking, but never got around to the decorating. i love everything that has been posted and if my scanner was hooked up -- actually, if i can find the cable - i would post some previous things i made and show off my "talent". unfortunately, i can't find the dang thing. terri, if you cooked/baked for me, i certainly would appreciate it all! all the meals are incredible and sharon, your pix are just to die for. what a lovely country you live in and what incredible dishes you make and pix you take. maryanne

Well, since I extended the original invite, I guess you're all coming over to my place. I'll supply the champagne and coffee and tea- I'm suggesting you bring your most decadant, gooey, fulfilling dessert-recipes please if it is one you make yourself, or a description if it is from your favorite dining emporium. Mucho calories required! Book-Something that touched your heart. Something that lingered after you closed the covers. A title that you remember with either secret-smile fondness or regret for something that ended before you were ready...like your first love. It needn't be a love story-just something that touched your softer emotions in some way. I'll expect you on February 14th! (but you can start shopping for your party togs now!) Cece

Bumblebeez, you can choose to both or just to do one or the other.

Just so you know though, the dinner really isn't complicated. Leading up to the dinner there will be a number of threads, where menu suggestions and ideas are bounced around. Recipes shared. You don't have to make the same thing. Some might choose to adopt a menu suggested by another participant, or to do their own thing. Some will make a three course dinner and others will just make dinner and skip the courses. It is whatever you want it to be.

Thanks Ann. I know the dinner isn't complicated but my life can be sometimes so I need to skip it for now. The swap will be fun though!

This is exciting -- I've never seen a swap in action here! I remember seeing posts about a Cinco de Mayo cook-along once, but I didn't follow the thread(s).

Sounds like fun! I will watch for details and then make a commitment. I have a crazy busy wonderful life right now and I know how much fun the swaps are. Looking forward to seeing details! Thanks Ann!

Deadline for signing up for the swap is Monday, January 7th. I'm off work that day and will get the names matched up and the emails sent out so you know who you will be sending to.

Looks like we have nine comfirmed so far and a few maybes.

I've posted the details for the swap over on Exchanges - Swap #18.

It didn't take me long to think about it. I'm in! The swaps are sooo much fun and I will make this a priority. Still thinking about the virtual dinner...;-)

I'll try to do the dinner also (depending on the exact date), but we will be out of town in February (like Sharon), which would make the swap a bit awkward.

I'm happy to hear these are back and will look forward to the next swap.
