An adjustment, but it will be so much fun! I think you will miss them all when they move out again.

You're going to have a blast. I have so many great memories from when my in-laws stayed with us for three months. Though come to think of it they didn't bring pets. lol!

We had a similar situation less than a year ago when my son, daughter-in-law, 3 toddlers and a fully grown lab (indoors) stayed with us for 6 wks until their house sold and they closed on the new house. Loved Loved the time with the grandkids! It was helpful though to have a beverage/snack station set up in our room. I could have my coffee whenever I wanted in the morning and not worry about disturbing anyone. When you are use to just you and your husband determining how your day will start, it is a big adjustment to having so many other "factors" that can determine it for you. It's not quite like when our kids were still at home. By week 4, I was coming out of my room later and later :) Made wonderful memories and we still love each other! LOL!

You'll enjoy it oak, especially knowing it isn't permanent! It will soon be warm enough to go outside and play, and you're sure to get some great exercise. LOL

Thanks for the support guys! We built a large metal shed/barn for them on their acre and we have a nice path made to walk there. All their stuff will go into storage there.

Both of them work (dh works at home) so they'll be gone most of the time, and I'll babysit my usual one day a week, maybe two. With clients coming over DH can't really have toddlers underfoot for long. lol.

Oak I bet you're going to be fine - you have a way of making lemonade in your life and this isn't even a lemon type situation!!! I am SO jealous that they will be building right by you - I can only hope to MAYBE someday be in the same time zone as my boys!!!

You are so very kind and generous! I could never ask my mother for that favor! While I'm sure my parents would do it if it were an emergency, I can't imagine asking them for a long term favor like that, even though they do have the room for us. We have stayed with them many times for 3-4 days at a time b/c our power goes out so frequently during storms. And while she doesn't make me not feel welcome, I know she is breathing a sigh of relief when we leave, and it's only been a few days.

This summer, we had that el Derecho storm that unexpectedly knocked out power. We had a tree coming through our bedroom window and our power was out for six days. Top it off we were in the midst of a heat wave with temps hovering near 100 degrees. AND, dd was dog sitting, in our house, a pug for her friend who was in Argentina for 10 days with her family. As it happens, my sister's family of 5 had arrived the night of the storm from OH to visit my parents for five days. So, my family of six, my sister's family of five, and the dog we were caring for (dd was actually dog sitting two other dogs in their own homes that we had to put in a kennel) all spent the time sprawled all over my parents' house. I know my mom was never so relieved to see us all go. Amazingly, my mom fell in love with the pug and told us she'd be happy to dogsit that dog if ever dd's friend needed someone to watch her!

I suppose it won't be too crazy since they will all be out of the house during the day. And you will have fun with your grandkids!

I'm with Dlm, you're very blessed to have them moving so close by. Your grandchildren will have such wonderful memories of you and the times you share with them. I'll count myself lucky just to have DS in the same country as us, but I can hope!

Ditto what Lynn said. My cousins and aunt (by marriage) moved in with my grandparents while their dad - a Navy Captain - was in Vietnam. We have great memories of playing with our cousins and they have wonderful memories spending so much time with our grandparents.

It sounds like everyone will be out of the house most days. If long term, the weekends might get crowded at times, but the kids can play outside or they can all go somewhere. As long as they are contributing with groceries and helping to cook, clean and do laundry duties, everyone should get along fine.

Wine, kswl? lol. I have some Mike's Hard Lemonade in the fridge, might wake up in the morning and gulp it down!

What's really cool is, my son's best friend since he was 2 is our "neighbor." He grew up in the farmhouse up the road, his mom (dad was DH's best friend, now deceased) lives in town, so my son and his BFF will be together...at last! I know that's what it's all about. ;) Their wives and kids get along great too, so it should be a fun time for all. knock knock knock!

oakley - I envy you! How wonderful to have family so close.

You'll survive the crowded and hectic living conditions and probably look back at it fondly - some day - I do hope it's not too far off. In the meantime I have no doubt that you'll pull this off handily.

Thanks, Maire. Last night my ds called to say the movers won't be here until afternoon, then he said, "Remember the bad empty nest syndrome you went through?" Then we started cracking up. lol

I'll probably start crying tears of joy when the big moving truck pulls in. Which reminds me, I need to move my car! :)

Oakley, my sister and DH did the same with their daughter and her four kids. At first it was dicey as the kids are wild and the parents say nothing so my sister asked her daughter if she would allow her Mom to teach them. The Mom and Dad (both attorneys) were thrilled as they lack the time and discipline. They stayed TWO years and the kids were transformed, my sister was transformed (she was formally a fanatic about a "perfect" home. Every single one of the benefitted from the experience to the point that the youngest(who was only six at the onset of the move in) said to her the other day "Nana, how's your back these days?" hahahhahahah. He learned to appreciate an older person. Even today they laugh at the "TIME" they spent together and though years have gone by, that particular daughter and her family always beg my sis and her husband to go on their two week vacas to the Cape and they do. I call that a "beautiful thing".

Yaya, that is so sweet! I'm very close to my 4 yr. old GS, whom I've babysat once a week since birth, but my 2 yr. old GD (which I also babysat) is harder to get to know. I've only raised boys, so I don't know if it's a gender thing or not.

She loves to brush my hair though, and I love to play with her dolls. :)

But it's going to be so much fun having a female to go antique shopping with me! DIL will be off for the summer so that will be great. I hope it will be for her. lol

So how did day #1 go?

I hope all went well during the move in. We had DS1 and DIL live with us for 4 months back in 2002. It was fantastic. They fit in to our lives so beautifully and we in to theirs. We all still talk about it. They were here with us again in 2009 for 2 months. It was a lot more stressful for them as job uncertainty was more of an issue. But we all made it work.

We still miss each other and have talked a lot this year about us moving to VA to be near them. We will see ...DIL is always sending me links to apt. and houses that are for rent. Would love to be near Grandson :) . c

It will be fun for us to hear how things are going along. I'll bet you'll be tired but a good tired and they're be so many wonderful moments.

Stressful but now good! The movers didn't show up at their house until 6:30 pm, got here at 8:30 pm, it took to midnight to put beds and crib together, the whole time the little one's were wide awake! Me? I went to bed at 11:00. :)

One of the motto's of the moving people says "We are on time. Always." Riiight.

DH got up at 6, then the grands woke up (he never thought about the 2 yr. old having a fully loaded diaper, LOL), and bless his heart he started cooking breakfast for everyone. DS is now up, DIL is sleeping.

I think everyone may take a long nap today. So far lots of laughter and cursing about the moving guys being 10 hours late!

All eleven living things are accounted for! I do worry about the grands not quite grasping why they won't be going back to their house anymore.

Forgot, my DIL has a natural eye for decorating so I didn't see the finished rooms when I went to bed.

The "nursery" is just adorable and very roomy. The master bedroom which we gave them has always been on the small side. But she made it look huge! Lots of open space where they can exercize, plus they have larger furniture in there than what I did. I'll do our bedroom just like it when they move out.

Man, it's nice to have another female here! lol

Just curious... Why would you move out of your bedroom and give them the master?

It sounds like you did a major move out like I did for 'Mom'. Where did you put your stuff?

Gold, DH brought his law office home, so he doesn't have the commute to the City on a daily basis anymore, and both kids work so it gives them their own bathroom, plus the bedroom is kind of like a little apartment for them to spend time alone w/their kids.

The only thing we had to move out was two bedroom sets, and they're in the new metal building we built for them.

I'm glad to hear that it well, all things considered. Please continue to keep us updated.
