TGIF 1-23-09 And at last there was peace....

After a few weeks of crazy I am hoping that we are going to be settling into our own kind of normal no matter how crazy it might be. We are all home and well into healing our physical and emotional hurts. I am blessed with my great family, friends and very special husband and children. I am focusing on those who are most important with me and letting those who are determined to be trouble makers away from us. I haven't even cooked more than a few dinners in weeks and now I got my new Meat ( My folks gave us a quarter of beef for Christmas) and I have a huge roast to put in Sunday for dinner and left overs all week. We are going to a benefit spaghetti feed and basketball games tomorrow night so don't have to cook. I think Dan just wants to show us all off, he is so proud of his kiddies.

Just a second for a time out to thank everyone out there that has prayed for us, and thought of us or even sent the kids cards and treats. It has been a rough time health wise but thanks to wonderful nursed, doctors, staff and family we are on the healing side and things are looking up.

All in all I am truly blessed

Morning all and TGIF!!!
Today I am toasting with good ole H2O and a banana...I am back on track and feeling great!!

Weird schedule this week as Drew had exams as well as a trip to DC not for Obama but rather the march for life...kinda cool that he has his mind made up so young.

Next week is Catholic Schools week so again with the crazy schedules and events...LOL!!

Today I have been gifted with some really nice produce boxes so I plan to spend this afternoon packing away most of my dishes and glasses to go off to storage.

I am off all weekend and I plan to just lay low...catch up on some sleep as well as touch base with some friends and oh yeah...more packing!!

Happy birthday to all celebrating this weekend...good healing wishes to those dealing with the crud and safe travels to those staring an adventure!!

Lucy... I, too, love your early morning photos, with the sun on the horizon. This one is particularly beautiful. I have survived the cold, and the worst is over. I will get out there shortly and get all the plants out of the garage. The western parts of the county didn't do so well. That is where many of your winter fruits and vegetables are grown. They got a pretty bad frost and are expecting the worst for many of the crops. I fear that things like green beans, sweet corn and maybe even sugar, are going to be a little more expensive this year. I've never posted on a TGIF thread before but I played hookie today so I could have a nice 4 day weekend. My weekend started last night. I bought that 5 minute artisan bread book and made a batch of the dough for today. I have only made bread in a bread machine prior to this. It mixed up easily in the mixer. Today I pulled it out and touched dough for the first time ever. It was a sticky mess. LOL I couldn't get it round so I plopped it on the peel. Then I decided it was way too flat so I picked it up and kept adding flour trying to get it round. What an amusing experience. I had flour all over my slippers and the dog by the time I was done. It wound up being the height off a ciabatta in the middle. We ate it for lunch even though it looked a little silly. The good news is I have a bowl full of dough in the fridge to keep trying. Any tips? Today must be a day of firsts. I have never had chili before because I am not a big fan of beans and I have only recently started liking spicy foods. I just made the RR chicken chorizo chili and it is simmering away. I can't wait to taste it. Clinking with an amaretto on the rocks from sunny S Florida. I may have to hit the hot tub ater dinner. Don't worry, I will be thinking of you freezing people the whole time. :-> I remember what zero felt like. Brrrr!!!

TGIF y'all. Chiming in late as usual. Everyone seems to have something nice planned, even if it IS bathing suit shopping. I was supposed to go out with a friend for her birthday Friday lunch, but I had to cancel, and I suggested Sat night at our house instead thinking she might be alone - SCORE! She is excited about coming over for my cooking, LOL. Vday is a big yawn here. I am lucky, I've been treated like a queen pretty much every single day since 1981 when I met DH. No flowers though, unless he grows them himself, suits me fine - I don't like flowers...messy plant genitalia. I appreciate them better on the plant where they do some good. Today we're going to try to drag the kids to our library to renew passports; theirs have expired. I have chicken marsala on tonight's menu since a local store has HUGE MUTANT boneless chicken breasts (health food store, they say its natural, swear to God) on sale for $2/lb. I've been doing a little bit of necklace beading. I'm trying to fix a necklace I broke all over my car last September, and started noodling around ebay - not a good idea, grin. This guy has some stuff I've been lusting after - means a trip to downtown LA's bead mart....so far I've made a necklace I didn't like so I donated it to our school fund raiser, I made it in our school colors. Hey every few bucks helps. Sunday night we're going to a friends house for dinner, Monday I haven't figured out yet! I might drag a kid up to Los Angeles, museum hopping.

TGIF! Personnel issues are a never ending PITA. Hope your presence clears things up. Enjoy having Elery home, your shopping trip, & the farm. It's always windy on our penninsula but this year's been absurd with more gale warnings since last December than any year we've been in Mystic (2000). Don't much like wind. Linda, hopefully, you'll get that wallpaper stripping finished. Nasty work. At least it's not 95 degrees & humid, yet. Alexa, we just finished our mulch a couple weeks ago. The gardens are a full 5-6 weeks ahead of schedule. The spring stuff has already bloomed. We're going to have roses in May instead of June. We're smoking chicken today. DH has to make a quick run to the law firm this afternoon so I'll keep an eye on the smoker while he's gone. Tomorrow, we're taking a picnic to Brenton Park in Newport to watch the kites. Sunday, it's supposed to rain all day. Early next week is also supposed to be off/on rain so we're going to get some cooking done & put in the freezer. Our garden's are beautiful & it's so great to be outside again. I've already planted our summer veggies. Even have the Boston ferns in the moss garden. It's really early & I know we're taking a risk but, hey, life's full of risks, right? Have a great weekend, everybody. /tricia

Good morning and TGIF!! It's a beautiful day with blue skies and the birds are singing their morning songs. Temps here expected to be in the mid 70's.

DH Joe decided last night to take off work today and we're getting ready to pack a lunch and go ride our horses in the National Forest that is about an hour from our house. Joe's new hip is only 11 weeks old and he is feeling terrific and loving being pain free!!

We'll also be working on more demolition and rebuilding of our barn this weekend (thanks to a 100 year old pecan tree and Hurricane Gustav) and I've got to repaint a wall in our bedroom. But other than that I'm hoping to ride my fat horse Sat and Sunday too!

Nancy, no plans? Just a TGIF? LOL

Grace, that sounds like way more fun than Susie is having packing up her dishes, LOL. I'm waiting for the weather to break a little so I can ride again, Copenhagen looks like a wild shaggy beast and there's snow over my head in places in the pasture, so no riding there!

I'm glad Joe is doing so well.

Stacie, enjoy your "normalcy", such as it is. A pot roast sounds pretty good to me.

TGIF, everyone. I have nothing planned tomorrow so maybe I'll make a pot roast too. Sunday is the farm, I've got recycling to do, lots of fun. I promised the Monkey Princess that she and I would make homemade chicken nuggets for dinner on Sunday and Amanda wants a lesson in making pasties. It's going to be extremely cold again this weekend, so cooking and baking are perfect activities.

Susie I thought I was on track again til I just ate a bagel with cream cheese and Habanero Jelly on it D'OH!

Tomorrow is my oldest daughter's birthday so we're celebrating tonight since she and her fiance have made plans for tomorrow. Dontcha just hate it when they get their own lives? Anyway, I baked her, her favorite cake - Dunkin Hines Yellow Cake w/canned milk chocolate frosting. She's easy to please. She even asked if her wedding cake could be Dunkin Hines... what's wrong with that girl? No date for a wedding yet, she's just planning it in her head for right now.

Not sure what's happening in the neighborhood for this weekend yet, maybe a card game or something will pop up.

Happy Weekend Everybody!

DH is trying to get out of work early so we can be at the lakehouse before dark. We haven't had an opportunity to get up there since the 12" snowfall last weekend, so we need to shovel decks, walkways and roof, and open paths to the utilities.

I made up a lasagne this morning which I'll bake off up there for dinner. DD & SIL will be joining us (for the eating part - not the shoveling LOL) We'll eat while watching college hockey - Our UNH team vs. Boston University. Tonight they play in Boston. Tomorrow they meet here at UNH. We're coming down for Sat.'s game. The 2 teams are rivals & both are nationally ranked - should be great hockey!

Thinking I may be the only Hockey East fan on the forum...

Ugh.... TGIF? I'm probably the only autoworker in the world working tomorrow. Taking every single hour of ot I can get right now.

Hope you have fun with your new meat Stacie! I have new meat also... picked it up off the road this morning about 2AM. Gross but I can't turn down 60lb of free meat and Dolly is delighted with her new dog bones. I was up until 4AM getting it dressed out so it would cool down. Everything looks great... one leg is going to be pet food but the rest is fit for human consumption. Up at 8 this morning for no good reason. Looking forward to some steaks this weekend.

Hope the Monkey Princess has fun with those chicken nuggets. Bet the homemade type don't have beaks and feathers like the real ones.

Amck, I've been meaning to tell you that I was born in Dover and have a lot of family in Exeter.

Shaun, You are a regular party girl! Tomorrow morning I'm having your wonderful Habanero Gold jelly on bagels and cream cheese before I head out to the parade. Great job Canning Woman!

It's Gasparilla this week--our Mardi Gras. I have been making a mini-float for Beau and Lily the last two days. They are in the toddler parade tomorrow. We have a pirate ship that comes up the bay and docks downtown, invades the cit, then we have a big parade. It has become way too raunchy for kids, so there are childrens' parades before the adult festivities begin.

The family is coming here after the parade tomorrow so I am making my first batch of dough from the "Artisan Bread In 5 Minutes A Day" cookbook. Tonight I am going to start the spaghetti sauce for tomorrow.

Annie, I guess it's pot roast weekend on the CF. I've got one stovetop (chuck) now in my LC...smells heavenly. I forced myself to let it sear a full 15 minutes & I got wonderful color & flavor. Usually, I'm impatient & it only gets half that amount of time.

amck, we lived in Bedford. I was in Loudon a couple months ago. My DS lived in Exeter within sight of Mustangs' family (near the little triangular park). Small world, huh?

Lyra, I'm glad you're getting the OT. Very uncertain times. Not sure about the RK though! lol

Cathy, the parades sound like fun. I'd probably like the kid's parade the best! lol Enjoy the festivities & visit with your family.

I'm not sure what we're doing this weekend. DH is, as I'm typing, stuck in a dentist chair upstate NY. He was out of town & got a toothache. Turns out he needs a root canal & a dentist squeezed him in at 3 p.m. this afternoon. Not sure if he's going to feel like making the drive to Mystic tonight. I've got a pot roast cooking...better make some smashed potatoes in case DH does decide to make the drive & can't chew! I also made a fresh blackberry pie this morning before I knew about his tooth...wonder if he can manage the seeds? If not, I'm going to be stuffed!

We got the last of the new window blinds installed Wednesday & had planned on rearranging furniture this weekend. I'm just staying loose until I hear how DH's doing. Hopefully, as soon as they get it drained his pain will go away!

TGIF everyone! Clinking with my glass of apple cider! Sounds like a varied weekend for everyone. I'll be heading to our sustainable home show this weekend to look at kitchen stuff for an upcoming remodel. I'm not sure what I'll find at a sustainable show, but I guess it suits the town pretty well! Eugene has a LOT of old hippies and such. :)

Other than that I'm going to do my regular weekend stuff, nothing really special. I'll pull a lasagna out of the freezer for dinner tomorrow night, tonight is leftovers as I really don't feel like cooking!

Well the good news is the drain is umplugged and the big tree packed away...( christmas tree...in cases ome of you are into Easter already!!)
The bad news is that all the ornaments are in flat boxes on the diningroom table....awaiting the, every few years assorting as to what goes on first....
UGH....
I have an all day church "retreat" tomorrow that promises to be awful.....my BS meter is revved up and ready to go.
I'm doing lunch for the group with 2 of the leftover lasagna from that funeral last week and a salad...
But I digress ant that will be saved for another ( )itch/gripe post.
The good news....if you can call it that...is I am not going anywhere tonignt....and I have a lovely pot of split pea soup made from the broth from the corned beef I cooked last week.....with a few additions.

TGIF everyone!

Was 70 here yesterday but that darn cold front has moved through and we are having a cold weekend. The weather guy was dancing around the screen talking about ice for Monday night and Tuesday. I REALLY hope we don't have to go through that carp again!!

DN called and asked if I'm going to come to her basketball game tomorrow...how could I say no?? After that I'm going the home and garden show to check things out. I'll hit Sam's to stock up on a few things on the way home. I see some baking and a pot of chili happening here. I'm so ready for summer!!

Love reading about everyone's plans. Sounds like great weekends all around.

Susie, I am going to have to go back and re-read or search posts. Did you sell and/or buy? When do you move? Oh, never mind, I'll find it! LOL

Went "thrift store shopping" today, heehee. Tomorrow is my son's 30th birthday, hence a party, and they are having an "ugly sweater contest". I got the most hideous sweater vest for Tim and a repulsive but extremely brightly colored sweater for me. They are drying on the rack right now. I fear we may win....

Sunday I am making turkey dinner. Only because I took a cue from Cathy and bought and labeled bins for my freezer in an attempt to be more organized. Unfortunately, I now only have room for one of my holiday turkeys, so I must cook the other.

Ah well.....have a good weekend all, and those of you up in my neck of the woods, stay warm, another arctic blast is on it's way.

Well, I missed Friday, but I'll clink anyway. But, I am clinking with penicillin. We have strep throat in the house and 3 of us are on antibiotics, with a 4th that is waiting in the wings, I think.
I was supposed to work this weekend so I can have next weekend off. I wanted to go to the Mardi Gras party.
Oh, well, maybe I can still arrange things with my coworker.
I wish all of you a wonderful and relaxing (or wild and fun)weekend.
