hotmail problems?

anyone having problems with hotmail today? I have been unable to access it for several hours from any pc and when trying it from downforeveryone it shows down but from another test site showed up.

This is about the longest I have ever had to go with out a connection to hotmail.

I can see the email in my inbox from my msn page but when trying to access any part of hotmail get the server was reset try again message.

really strange, I can go to my husbands windows 7 laptop and get into his hotmail just fine but when I try to access my hotmail account from 3 different computers including linux I get the same problem. All I can do is hope somehow they fix it.
I have cleared cache, rebooted, everything I can think of, just strange I can get his on his pc then try switching to my id on same pc and it will not connect.

Things don't seem to show any sign of slowing down. People are still steaming about their accounts. Below is another link to a brief article on the issue. FWIW, I apologize for not naming this thread more accurately. I should have called it "Warning for Hotmail Users" or something so people don't think it's a post stating my own problem with the service. I just hope any Hotmail users here aren't experiencing any problems and can take proper steps to back things up before something does ! Here is a link that might be useful: Digital Journal Article

Thank you both. Yes, Breen, hopefully it is just a snaffu right now, due to their updating. On the email I sent to XXXX@ excite.com yesterday at 2:23PM I received 2 delay warnings and just now received a warning that it was a failure. Unable to deliver message to the following recipients, due to being unable to connect successfully to the destination mail server. Luckily the email is attached. Heck, I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday, let alone who all I emailed about what? Sheesh...wish they would get all their ducks in a row ans quick. The member @excite.com hasn't had problems that she is aware of anyway, receiving emails from other folks. Sorry to rant. Sue

Hotmail/Live/Outlook.com (all the same!) goes down. A lot. It has nothing to do with your end's equipment. If one of their servers goes south, it drags. It shows up badly because it keeps EVERYTHING except your message headers and preferences on its servers. That includes your attachments, mail, mail aliases, and address book. You rely on their servers to be hot and spicy, and they ain't always so. If you complain (I have) they'll get back to you after things are fixed and report no problem found.

Sometimes that happens. Not often. Usually DNS server with bad or old info. No problems here at home or at work all day and that's five accounts.

My understanding is a user is dedicated to the registering server unless Hotmail moves you so when you create a Favorite you are always pointed at that server. If you have problems it could just be the independent server being down. I have done work arounds by typing in Hotmail.com into the Address Bar for generic access, and accessing through the hyperlink following a Google search. And sometimes you just can't connect.

yep DA I have had to in the past do some back door entries LOL

well I guess it just needed to hear me complain a little because finally it seems to be back and working, hope it lasts. With all the changes they are doing almost daily it will likely be hit and miss. I am not liking a lot of the changes and may end up forcing me to change my primary email to one of my other ones or at least have it fetch the hotmail for me and not have to deal with the actual hotmail interface.

Had to use my gmail today and realized that at some point recently my entire address book disappeared, all that is now showing up is my hotmail addy and my husbands addy, no clue why gmail would have made any changes that would affect my address book.

ok I just figured out the gmail problem, and just in case anyone else suddenly finds their contacts list is gone don't panic LOL
Look way down at the bottom of your page(main inbox page) and there is a link that says OLDER contact manager click that and under all contacts is where I found my list, I then chose the select all option and the move to MY Contacts option and now all of my contacts are now in the "new" contact list. Man why do they have to mess with us like this!
