Obviously I am going to have to watch all of my accounts. Fortunately all five are OK at this time. I am forwarding anything important to me to an old Yahoo account for safekeeping.

yes that is very scary stuff there, I have been on hotmail since the 90's I have all of my stuff there, it would be devastating if that happened to me. I do have other email accounts but hotmail is my main one. I did recently print out a hard copy of my entire address book just in case. I have not been happy since all the new changes and so called improvements, I had never had a problem with my hotmail an now many days I get on and it says cann not connect try later or some other stupid message.

Is there a way to save entire folders from hotmail does anyone know? because trying to move as much as I have manually would take way too long. I would move everything to a flash drive for safe keeping but I honestly have no clue how to go about it.

Things don't seem to show any sign of slowing down. People are still steaming about their accounts. Below is another link to a brief article on the issue.

FWIW, I apologize for not naming this thread more accurately. I should have called it "Warning for Hotmail Users" or something so people don't think it's a post stating my own problem with the service.

I just hope any Hotmail users here aren't experiencing any problems and can take proper steps to back things up before something does !

Came to ask same question as Ravencajun--how to transfer files out of MSN to other email acct. I was already annoyed enough to move but when I went to MSN site for my problem (have to keep signing in) I found several pages of these people who had lost all email. And the dates show this has gone on for a long time. Difference is that this time so many more are gone at once.

I have been searching everywhere for how to transfer the folders or emails with out doing it one by one and I am not finding any thing real hopeful. I did find this but no clue if it works or how difficult it would be to do.

Good news. They're beginning to get their email back.

I just checked all mine again, and they are still fine. It must be a concern on selected servers. Just to share information, my accounts are on servers 104, 110, 123, 129, and 156.

I hope they actually inform their users what the problem was to begin with. So far (at least according to the help forum) they're being somewhat tight-lipped about it all.

DA, servers? How would I check that? Mine are still fine too.

Also, I wonder if the actual address makes any difference. Mine is ----@msn.com. I've noticed that there is also ---@hotmail.com.

I have my main one which is @hotmail and my old old original from msn dial up days which is @msn.
I have no idea how to find out the server info, since they have changed hotmail I can not find any thing it seems, I think they purposely make it difficult.

As you log in watch the status bar it will report which server you are connecting to. It will be embedded in the connecting to/transferring information from that is presented. Watch closely as it will move quickly.

The domains live.com, hotmail.com and msn are all different.

looks like they are at least doing something for these poor people now. But of course have not said a thing about why or how it happened in the first place. Which does not leave me very warm and fuzzy feeling.
