'In'....but where do I put my stuff???? lol

ok guys, I'm going nuts here. We've been in since Aug 30th. I keep arranging.....and re-arranging....and then more re-arranging. Argh! lol

And I don't even have main floor furniture yet ROTFL!

My BIGGEST problem is the kitchen (I know there is a kitchen forum lol). Our old house had 2 lower corner cabinets, 1 lower left cabinet (1 door), and 2 upper cabinets (2 doors, left was "pantry", right was plates glasses etc). That's IT. My new kitchen has 18 cabinets, 18 drawers, and 1 full corner pantry.

I'm LOST lol.

Anyone else in the same boat??? Please tell me I'm not alone and you're struggling too. I think I'm driving my DH nuts lol

When we remodeled the kitchen in this house, I packed everything away in boxes. Once the remodel was done, I'd dig out my tools and utensils and then put them away where I used them as much as possible. Anything I did not use in a reasonable amount of time and that was left in boxes went to Goodwill.

Now that we're getting closed to finished with the new house, I am thinking of doing the same thing. The new kitchen is 2-3 times as big as the old one and a completely different layout with tons more storage. I think I will do the same thing - only move what I use and put it away where I used it.

Put your pots and pans close to the stove. Put your glasses close to the fridge. At least the ones where you just want to grab a quick drink. Where you do most of your food prep, put those items in that area (knives, dishes, etc). Hopefully this will help with some of your items. :-) Also, you could draw out your kitchen and play around with where you'd like different items until it fits right for you and then move them. Our bathroom is small (for a master) and since our vanity is along an exterior wall in Maine, we couldn't afford to give up insulation depth for a recessed medicine cabinet over the lavs. I was worried about where we'd put all the stuff, and planned open shelving for towels and baskets or smaller items. However, now that we've installed the cabinetry, I found I have LOADS of space and don't need the shelves. We designed a very sleek, simple vertical cabinet over the toilet, about 30" high by 6" deep by 16" wide. It holds feminine items and medicines and first aid stuff, and is only about 1/3 filled. Our vanity is sleek and up on legs, but we designed the sink installation to avoid interfering with the space at the top as much as possible, so we have four cavernous drawers to use. I got divider things from Ikea (soft and girly for me, square and hard for DH, since he didn't like mine!) and you can't believe how much stuff is in there. I put a plug on my side so I can keep a hair dryer in my top drawer. All of our towels are in one bottom drawer. And there's still loads of room! Also, our two closets are just outside the bathroom, so I figured if I have any overflow (like a big bulk package of toilet paper) it could be stashed there pretty easily.

I felt teared up when leaving our first house and still feel an ache when I drive by. It was not perfect, but it held so many memories and felt so much like ours that it still shocks me 6+ years later that it is someone else's and we have no right to walk in the front door. It did not help that it was prettier than our next house and that we bought "potential and location" with our second house. In your case, you are getting wonderful from the get go... As much as I love marble, that SW really is a great batch. Perhaps you can negotiate with the $1,700. I would take the cheapest edge and find a way to make it fit my budget somehow. No offense, but that kicks BA's and marble's butts.... It looks dreamy and the fewer worries about etching really make a difference to me.

Fortunately our Wii is in a basement family room and not the living room, but since I recently attempted to "fancy up" our basement a little, I put the guitars in a big, deep basket in the corner by the TV. But the drums... well, they're out there. I couldn't think of what to do with them. We do have a closet right near the TV, but no way would my kids put the drums away in a closet every time they use them. If they are in your living room, maybe they could be pushed behind a decorative screen? Or a piece of furniture like Lala did?

Cozy seating for the family... the wall between the windows can have a large piece of art on it and drapes on windows in a lightweight fabric to soften the space would be great..what colors are you hoping to introduce into the room?...love the white shiplap and white credenza with sconces...great start..

When we moved into our current house, I put things where I thought they should go. Things seemed to work, until my Mother got her hands on the cabiets. She completely rearranged things to be much more efficient. I only wish she'd work on the rest of my house. I do keep asking, but she's not having any of it.

I am in the process of cleaning (nothing serious just weekly routine) the current house right now. (Of course I had to stop and look at the messages on here in the process). As is go from room to room I am thinking about where am I going to put all the furniture we have. It is going to be WAY to much. We currently have a family room which the new house won't have and the dining room is about the same size but open to the great room so I don't have a place for a big hutch. Wow, an auction sounds good to me right now.

I put glasses, dishware and eating utensils closest to the dishwasher. When you get something to drink, you grab one glass. When you have to put away a dishwasher full, you don't want to move out of place! :-)

You mean you didn't have the contents of every cabinet and drawer already designated before you moved? No drawings, labelled and numbered with contents of each listed?
