MS Office 2007 for Home Office/Student

First I note that the old MS Office label on a cut-priced version was strictly for teachers and students. If seems now that MS has allowed the home user to use a version of MS Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, +) for under $150, affordable.

After years of using Open Office as my use involved commercial work it seems now that I'm running only my personal stuff on my computer, or am engaged in some form of learning (e.g., forums :>>) ) it is now legal for me to load MS Office (on up to three computers, very generous) for Home Office and Students on my home computers.

Is this version a full copy (industrial strength), or a downsized demonstration-level of Word, Powerpoint and Excel?

You get the full version of those apps. You can get the updates from microsoft just as with other office versions. The only limitation (if you consider it that) is that when they come out with a new version of office you cannot use an update version. Of course you can buy a new student/teacher version if you don't need outlook or other things that come on the other versions cheaper than the update version. I'm still using the 97 student/teacher version which I was qualified to buy under their restrictions. I haven't bought a new version -not because I am no longer qualified, but because I don't need it.

I have a full Office '95 myself. It became ineffective I believe with Office 2003. The '95 was paid for by my employer, then 2003, no more sugar daddy to buy me software. The price of the now HOME OFFICE/Student (no longer tied directly to educational interests) for up to three machines, me and my wife each have one, well I have about three, but only one is regularly used, looks attractive. My wife doesn't like OO.

Al I assume you are talking about Word? Open Word, click View on the top toolbar then near the centre right below "View" you have the option to show one or 2 pages at a time. Try clicking the one page option, you should now see your pages one at a time. The other option is to click the round Start button in the top left corner, hover over Print in the drop down menu then click Print preview

Bestlawn! I could have asked you over on KT! I had two lines; one I managed to delete, but I've fumbled around so much I cannot remember what I did! Yes, I think the enter/return is what seems to trigger it. When I try to select the line, a thin vertical highlight strip appears on the left above, through, and below the line, but it will not delete. I've spent the last 20-30 minutes trying to figure it out, searching "help." But it's no big problem, I can scroll it down to the blank page and not print that page. And now that I know how to draw lines w/o triggering the other line, I'll be ok. I suppose 2007 is ok when one gets used to it, but it sure takes up a lot of time getting to that point. It has a default of 1.5 spacing, which is not that good for me. Thanks...you're the "best!"

Just started testing Office 2007, see post tonight asking for help on finding how to stop the applications from searching the Internet (guess), and have to agree, Word seems to have changed everything. Well all the old stuff is there, but down one or two clicks, if you can find the right clicks. One problem, not new to 2007, was setting Save As, Open to go to a directory of my choice, not the default "my documents" which is a set XP folder. I found one can copy a "Word" directory (say) into the dialog box, left hand side, but it is still one click away as the dialog opens in the default "My Documents". I returned a new Notebook (Acer that had some driver problems, most likely due to Vista) a few months back and purchased some old shelf stock to get a new Notebook with XP. I also have a "free" upgrade for a Dell Desktop, but I'm not using it, staying with XP Media in that case.

It includes Word, Powerpoint, Excel and something else I have never used, and forget what its call, it does not include Outlook. I just ordered MS Office Home Student for $124.99 free shipping form Amazon.com. Heck, and I just, with the help of friends on the web forums, managed to set Open Office as the default application for doc. ppt. and xls. I know my wife will be happy to have MS Office back on her machine, MS has really outdone itself (money mongers that they are) in making Office available for home use at a reasonable price, keeping in mind I can install it on both my and my wife's machine, plus another home machine, for the $125 price tag.
