Does anyone else HATE Office 2007?

Some of our school is MAC based with Microsoft Office 2003, some P/C Office 2003 and some of the new P/C's have Office 2007/. There is no continuity in that darned program. There's problems reading docs between all the systems and just driving us nuts. What were they thinking???

Is there an easy way to do this?

Sure, save the 2007 documents as Word 97-2003 Document.
File > Save As > Word 97-2003 Document.

The Microsoft Office 2003 Documents open fine in 2007.
The 2007 documents will not open in 2003, unless saved as 97-03 doc.

You could also try downloading and installing the compatibility pack linked below. Being a school you would either probably need administative rights or have the IT guy/gal do the job.

You're not alone. Try not to beat yourself up about it. I would guess most people make mistakes or have some regrets. For the house we're building, I bought a lot of materials in advance trying to scope out closeouts and such but not always thinking through how all of the materials would coordinate with each other. I also made the mistake of buying some very well priced tiles online that I didn't like as much in person when they arrived. I will end up eating some of it or trying to sell on Craigslist. Oh well. But honestly I think your selections look well coordinated and tasteful. I would not risk painting the cabinets nor would I change out the tiles or counters since you might end up with finishes that clash with each other unless you change out everything.

Bosch does not stand behind it’s parts or technical assistance. My dishwasher (Ihave two of them in my kitchen) is about 3 years old when the programming panel on the door stopped working. i ordered and installed a new one from Bosch and the panel continued to say ”add salt” even though my dishwasher (800 series) doesn’t have a salt dispenser. I then had to hire a professional to come to my home and fix the unit. After a long struggle, he couldn’t fix it either, so he called Bosch and was told to replace the harness. I ordered the harness, arranged for the repair guy to come back. He installed the new harness and it still didn’t work. So he called Bosch again and this time was told to replace the control unit on the right side of the dishwasher. I again ordered the new part, the process was repeated and the dishwasher still didn’t work. Now I’m $600+ into repairs and the unit has been unusuable for 2 months. I subsequently found out that the right side control unit has nothing to do with programming, even though we were trying to fix a programming issue. Finally the repair man determined that the replacement control door unit that I had ordered from Bosch and replaced was defective. So I called Bosch told them the above and asked for a free replacement of their defective part. They made me send them all my bills, including the one for their bad part. Then they made we wait only to be told there is a one month guarantee on their electrical parts, and since the part was purchased some 2 months earlier, they would NOT send me a free replacement. They knew the one month guaranty was exceeded because of their technical people telling us to replace multiple other parts that didn’t solve the problem and they knew I had purchased two of their dishwashers at the same time, yet they refused to replace the defective replacement for the door control unit. I replaced that part a second time using another vender and my didhwasher now worksOtis. How greedy is this company given the circumstances just outlined? Your dishwasher will eventually break and you will find yourself in my situation. Can you trust this company to treat you properly? I don’t think so, and neither should you. I’ve written this to protect you, so I hope you act accordingly.

Jamie, I'm late to the game but am SO down with this. I work from home and used to be very organized (thanks in GREAT part to this forum!) So much so, that I had an Access database that I would use to designate which box, in which room, seldom used items were in. (How anal is that?!?!?!) If I didn't kind of sort of know where something was, I would look it up in the database & voila! But in recent years, we've had some lifestyle changes including my 91 y/o mother moving into assisted living. And so I have "inherited" some of her things (that either I wanted or she wants & doesn't want to keep at the assisted living place) and do alot of "hands on" care for her (IE doing her books, refilling her pill boxes (we have four of those weekly thingies), keeping track of her medical info, etc.) That's one reason I've ramped up the usage of my PDA over the past ~1 1/2 years. Since she's legally blind, but her mind is pretty good, I try to keep good notes about how her hearing aids work, how her cell phone works, etc so if she encounters problems, I can hopefully walk her through troubleshooting over the phone, rather than make a special trip over there. (Not that she's that far away, but I do see her twice each week & work full time. So I tend to get disgruntled if I have to make a special trip b/c she ran out of pills.) Plus, since she made her living "doing books", she's often asking me about this investment or that bill & I have to stay on top of things & it's helpful to have the info in the "Palm (TX)" (hehehe!) of my hand. Unfortunately, the "physical" aspect of my organization has suffered. :-0 My office is the worst, probably because I spend so much time there. My husband is always asking me to work on it. Over the past year (I'm SO ashamed to admit this...) my idea of "working on it" has been to stuff all the clutter into shopping/grocery bags & shoving them into the closet or the bathtub of the bathroom that's right next to the office. (Bowing head in shame.) Does anyone else hate bread clips?

I don't know about the US, but a Canadian bread company switched their bread clips to cardboard ones that are 100% useless. But they save trees.... So, when we buy bread that still uses the plastic ones we save them. I bake bread and need them. The plastic clips also have the expiry date on them which is harder to put on a plastic bag. they're also colour coded for the bread guy when he goes into stores to check for expiries to buy back from the store.

You can quote me on this: Windows Vista and Office 2007 will be Microsoft's "New Coke".

I think MS could easily have held most of it's ground against Mac but releasing a bunch of crap software to run on a crap operating system is going to cost them a lot of customers.

Just like Coca-cola was the single best selling product in the history of planet earth until they decided to release "new coke". they allowed Pepsi to steal enough of the market to be a real competitor.

I've been using exclusively Windows since the early 90's. I just bought a new computer a few months ago but based on what I've seen of MS's latest offerings I'll certainly be looking at Mac's in 3-4 years when it's time to upgrade again. Thanks Bill.

A word of caution about the compatability pack. This may not affect you, but a customer at work installed Office 2007 on his own and the compatability pack to open documents, ect from everyone else in the company (using Office 2003). We had to reload Windows to repair the damage...issue was that in Excel 2007, the 'Save', 'Save As' and 'Print' options were grayed out. Not sure that the issue was the compatability pack, but we stronly suspected that it was. We tried everything to restore to Office 2003 or to allow 2007 to function correctly, with no relief. We did not grant him Admin rights this time ;-)

Just started testing Office 2007, see post tonight asking for help on finding how to stop the applications from searching the Internet (guess), and have to agree, Word seems to have changed everything. Well all the old stuff is there, but down one or two clicks, if you can find the right clicks.

One problem, not new to 2007, was setting Save As, Open to go to a directory of my choice, not the default "my documents" which is a set XP folder. I found one can copy a "Word" directory (say) into the dialog box, left hand side, but it is still one click away as the dialog opens in the default "My Documents".

I returned a new Notebook (Acer that had some driver problems, most likely due to Vista) a few months back and purchased some old shelf stock to get a new Notebook with XP. I also have a "free" upgrade for a Dell Desktop, but I'm not using it, staying with XP Media in that case.

Hate, hate, hate, 07. I use Word on two different computers, one with 03 and the new one with 07. The new Word is a joke. I wonder what he was smoking when he came up with this invention!

AT work I use Word '03 and I had to download and install the compatibility pack so that I could read documents sent to us by users of the '07 version. The download was quick and easy. I haven't used the new '07 version, what makes it so different besides the different file format?

Everything is different. Can't find anything. Its all hidden behind stupid buttons. Every time I need to type a letter, I have to run to the help button to find what I need. The toolbar is totally different. It took me 20 minutes to find 'Print.' After years of using Word, now you need to start all over again with this new program. Same with Excel, although the changes are less dramatic (I don't use Excel often, but my accountant son does not appreciate the changes.) I use 03 at work but also work from home. I need to carry docs from the 03 computer and work on them at home on 07. Not an easy task.

I wonder if everytime the computer freezes and we have to do a control/alt/delete and get to task manager, that we should send a message to Microsoft. They need to know how much we hate this program! Let them hear how upsetting it is to be in a crunch and not have the document able to print!
