Help with downloading PDF documents

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 and use IE as my web browser. The problem I have is when trying to download a PDF document. For example, a littler earlier today, I wanted to download documentation for a new kitchen faucet I have; however, once I clicked on the icon, I got a message that IE had quit working.

I have noticed this in the past but wasn't really concerned because the items were things I did not really want or need. That has changed now since I really need to download the PDF document on the kitchen faucet.

Can anyone help me as to what I need to do to be able to download PDF documents?

Try shutting down the computer completely and then starting again - not a restart. You might find a big difference.

Do you have a PDF reader?

Why not right-click the link and do a "Save Link As" (or whatever choice the browser you're using offers)....then open it with your PDF reader?

yes you have to keep Ie it is part of windows and it is always best to have at least 2 browsers on the pc incase one should fail you always have an alternate. I use and love firefox, there are tons of great add-ons for it that make my life so much easier, try searching here on the forum for firefox and you will find a lot of info. Learn Firefox Ultimate List of Firefox 3 Tips and Tricks those should get you started, you will love the ease of use and the tabbed browsing. the add-ons I always suggest are adblock plus to prevent ads on pages and use the subscriptions on Ricks easylist page Adblock Plus 1.1.3 EasyList and EasyPrivacy after you have added adblock plus to your firefox and restarted it then go there and scroll down to the 2 yellow lines on the right it says add to ABP click on that for both to add to your adblock plus. I also like colored tabs ColorfulTabs 4.1 to help you surf safer and avoid dangerous sites WOT - Safe Browsing Tool 20091028 if you spend some time looking through the hundreds of add-ons you will find so many that make life easier.

Instead of scanning the form as a .pdf, scan it as a .rtf (RICH TEXT FORMAT). You should be able to select this under SCAN DOCUMENT SETTINGS. Then open the .rtf file with your word processor and edit as needed. After editing, save it as a .doc if you wish and then print-fax-email as needed or you can convert to .pdf if needed by using a free online pdf converter.

Really need more information. Which program are you using to open\read PDF files? In a lot of cases, just increasing or decreasing the zoom setting will help you see more of the document. The "little hand" is the PDF cursor within the document. I'm not sure what you mean by "the right column" unless you mean the scroll bar? Help us help you. If you know how to post a screen shot of an opened PDF file, that would be a huge help.

Have you even contacted Amazon at all or the site where you bought the books? I own several kindles and amazon has the most excellent tech support with help for their kindles. You can either post on the kindle forums or call Amazon so there is really no need to take your tower out of the house. You don't even need to hook the kindle to the computer to get files on it. You do have wifi in your house don't you? What happened when you installed send to kindle on your computer and tried that? Are you sure the files you bought are in a format for the kindle? I think you should contact the site where you bought the files and make sure other wise you are waisting your time taking your tower out of house to get them transferred if they are not in the right format for the kindle. Another thing to try is temporarily disabling Protected Mode. You should see Protected Mode on (or off) in the status bar at the bottom of the screen. Double click and remove the check next to Protected Mode. You'll need to close all IE windows and open a fresh one before trying the download again.

Maybe I don't have a PDF reader. I looked in Control Panel> Programs and it shows a PDF Complete, but I can't find it in "All Programs."

What PDF reader do you all recommend?

I normally shut down my computer totally for one overnight per week. Starting it again has not helped the issue.

I haven't even seen the popup for Protected Mode come up when I tried downloading the PDF documents.

PDF Complete is a handy application that comes preinstalled on the Hewlett Packard devices in order to facilitate access to the PDF files.

Looks like you lost that program.

Thank you all. After downloading some readers that did not work, I decided to download the Adobe Reader - it works.
