Help with downloading some ebooks to my Kindle

I have a older Kindle Fire, and bough some booklets from a religious bookstore. The instructions say to click on the download link in the ordered confirmation and after the device (not sure what they mean) appears in My Computer (don't have this) to drag and drop the eBook file into documents. Your new eBooks should be available in your device's library.

I tried this, but all I get is that originally it came in with something to do with Adobe xi and it will not let me download from the documents in my computer.to my Kindle.

Does any of this makes sense??? If I delete Adobe xi, what happens to the stuff in the file? Do I need this? I don't remember downloading this file, UNLESS it was a program I needed while buying stamps for my stamp collection

Are these books PDF files? If they are and you want them in kindle format follow the instructions at this link making sure to put convert in the subject line. If you still can't figure it out Amazon has kindle forums to help. Mary

I use and love the product by amazon which is free for the pc Kindle for pc, you can download it in just minutes, and you can get a lot of free books from the amazon store so you can try it out with out buying a thing, I have a nice library on my pc made up of totally free books. "free kindle books list" It will be sent directly to your kindle for pc that you have selected it to go to. If you do a search here on garden web for Kindle for pc you will find a good thread discussing it.

Monica, you said exactly what I was thinking! I had no idea that anyone had to pay a yearly fee for a library card. We pay $1 to get a card, but that is a one-time fee only. I now feel privileged. I do not have an e-reader, but use Overdrive to download audio books from our library system. I do see that they have a huge library of mobi and epub books, though. Until very recently we were also able to access the library systems of another area in our state for MP3, WMA, mobi and epub books as well. They cut us off just this year because they have determined that our county library system is large enough to be independent. Boo hoo.

I use my iTouch and iPad with the Kindle app. I have other eReader apps (OverDrive) that are compatible with my libraries eBooks. I think this is what Kindle will use? If it like what I currently use - you can't just go get the book you want immediately. There are a limited number of "copies" available. You put your name on the list for when that title is available. Then you can download it when it is. It is on your device for a limited amount of time before it expires (plenty of time to get it read). If the book is not a currently popular book, you may not have to wait at all, but if it is a best seller - plan on waiting a while for it.

Jannie, are you close enough to another county to check that library system? That might be the way to go. As someone who tends to be a critical reader, I find it useful to check the negative reviews on Amazon. If they say the book is badly in need of an editor (or assorted other complaints), I know I won't enjoy it. The positive reviews could be sincere, or they could be written by friends of the author. That sort of thing is done all the time.

They did not come i as PDF files, but something to do with Adobe xi--That appears to be my problem.

Not sure I quite understand. So you hooked the kindle to the computer and dragged and dropped the files onto the kindle and when you try and read them it is asking about adobe? Your best bet is to contact where you bought the books from for help. Mary

This is more complicated that I choose to deal with. Just got back from computer store and will take tower and Kindle in and they will show me how. I have W/7 but homemade computer

Have you even contacted Amazon at all or the site where you bought the books? I own several kindles and amazon has the most excellent tech support with help for their kindles. You can either post on the kindle forums or call Amazon so there is really no need to take your tower out of the house.

You don't even need to hook the kindle to the computer to get files on it. You do have wifi in your house don't you? What happened when you installed send to kindle on your computer and tried that? Are you sure the files you bought are in a format for the kindle? I think you should contact the site where you bought the files and make sure other wise you are waisting your time taking your tower out of house to get them transferred if they are not in the right format for the kindle. I was sent instructions but when I took them to the computer store, and I agree, they are outdated for the version I have. These are not from Amazon, and I have to use a USB cable to download them. I have checked out kindle forms and that was not much help. The site I bought them from was unable to help me either. I have a good computer store who really helps me out. Thanks for your suggestions

Did you ask on the Amazon kindle forums at the link I gave you? I volunteer there and all the volunteers are very helpful so strange they couldn't help. What did Amazon say when you called them? They should have been able to help you over the phone. I think at this point your issue is with the site where you bought the books. What format are the books in? Mary
