Okay, I downloaded the Kindle for PC

Okay folks, I need hand holding, lol.

I downloaded the bulling book (thanks holly!) AND I found a couple of my favorite statistics books in Kindle format. When I eventually get a Kindle, will I be able to transfer them to the Kindle or are they "stuck" on the PC?

Do any of these things read to you? I am thinking my daily 2 hour commute could benefit from being red stats books.

Any other advise. I have saved the thread about the kinds of readers so I have those nuances.

you can easily move them to the kindle by simply doing a sync and it will find them and put them on your kindle be sure you set up all of your kindle accounts with amazon using the same username and password etc.

There are a lot of free kindle format books which you can use on your kindle for pc. search for free kindle books on amazon and google.
I like feedbooks.com they also offer kindle format

As long as you use the same Amazon email addy and password when you register your Kindle with Amazon, the books will synch automatically and will be found under archives.

I deliberated long and hard between the iPad and the Galaxy Tab and came to the conclusion that either one would be great. It wasn't an issue of the iPad being somewhat more expensive or that the Tab was somehow superior...I just liked the slightly more rectangular screen format of the Tab, the ability to customize the interface using Android, and the fact that I knew Android would be easier for me to use based on having an Android smartphone. The iPad is a beautiful machine, so I hope no one thought I was dissing it because I wanted to tout the choice I made as better...it was a close call. Other observations I can make are: 1) I wanted to use my device as an Internet browser, so having Flash capability (which the iPad doesn't support) was a modest issue. 2) If you want compactness in your ereader, then the Kindle of the Amazon Fire would be a better portability choice than either the Tab or the iPad. 3) I had gathered, from reading comparisons between the Tab and the iPad, that I might have a bit more flexibility with handling a range of ebook formats if I chose the Tab over the iPad, and in sharing those books across devices. I understand that iPad doesn't read formats available from all libraries, although I assume you could solve this by doing a conversion with the free Calibre software. (I'll admit that I'm not an expert on this.)

Had a little problem at first because even though this is free, Amazon has my CC number and the download did not install properly. Then I realized it was the old CC number for the card that was cancelled, so I put in my current CC number and downloaded again. This time the shortcuts worked and I have Kindle up and running with a book downloaded and the first few pages read. Yay! Thanks, RC.

Ok, you all have me almost convinced to buy myself the Kindle. I just downloaded the app to my iphone. That's all I've done on it so far! The battery is low so I'll have to play with downloading books on it later. Lindsey, I love the idea of putting knitting patterns on it! I scanned some of my pattern pics with the materials list into the computer and printed them in photos, then put them in "brag books" to take with me to yarn shops so I would have the info to buy yarn, or not duplicate patterns, but I've always carried my knitting bag with a bunch of my favorite patterns in it, and my needles when we traveled. Luckily, we don't fly! When we took the train, I vacuumpacked each skein of yarn seperately for a sweater I was working on, and put them in the suit case. I could take out one at a time, and it would puff back up to it's original shape to work with. I knitted 2/3 of a sweater in 10 days that trip! But that bag is HEAVY! With the kindle, I could just carry that, my needles & accessory kit. Hmmm, guess I'll have to check the ccard balances. Trip to KS for a funeral=4 day weekend, gas, food, room. Trip to S. Ohio for bluegrass festival = room, gas, food, tickets, cd, banjo, music stand, & 3 instrument stands. Have to think about it. Tami

ok and when you go there where you see the option to uninstall can you open the app from there? Are you seeing the kindle app icon on the apps list on the PDN? You have to use the kindle app from the PDN itself don't use the button on Amazon. When you open the kindle app on the PDN you should see the kindle icon picture as it loads then it will show you the open app. Then you should see somewhere that says library and under library you should see all items, downloaded items, archived items. Try the downloaded items first. Then the others. you should see also up top a little 4 squares thing that lets you choose between list and grid. Depending on the version you have it may look different than the one I am looking at on mine. you may also have a sync option depending on the version you can use the sync button to have all the info updated from the Amazon site to the PDN. When you go to downloaded it should show you any books that are currently on your kindle app on the PDN. Do you have an SD card inserted into the PDN? Some devices require there to be an SD card in the sd card slot to be able to download and it will store them on the SD card. I honestly do not remember if the PDN was that way but I always had an SD card in mine. If you select the archived option you should see all the books you have purchased at Amazon and a little cloud with a down arrow in the bottom right corner to download them from amazon to the device you click on that, must be logged into Amazon, and it should begin the download. Another option would be to use the SD card in a card reader plugged into your pc and move the books to the SD card from your AMazon kindle app on your pc.

There's a kindle for PC? Is it free? I downloaded the Kindle app for the Iphone, but that's as far as I've gotten, not even set up the account yet. I'll be following this thread with lots of interest. DH says no to a Kindle, since I can do it with the phone, so I hope I can put my PDF knitting patterns on it and have them work on the phone.

Tami, I downloaded it free from the Amazon site. Of course the books I am most interested in are textbooks so they are just expensive as the printed books.

So if I buy a textbook Kindle version and have the Kindle PC app downloaded at home and work, I will be able to access the textbook both places! That would be a true back saver!!!! Textbooks are heave and never seem to be in the office where I need them- 45 miles between house and work is not conducive to running to the other for a book.

Yup! That's the great thing about Kindle. I can read my books on my computer. Or on my iPhone if I don't bring my Kindle with me. All will sync with each other.

And books you purchase will always be on your Amazon account even if you decide to delete them from your phone or PC. Once they're yours, they're always yours.

I do not own an actual kindle but do have the free kindle for pc app on all of my windows computers and laptop and netbooks. They work very well. I have a ton of free ebooks I have found at various places online that have kindle format for free. It will sync with any other kindle or kindle app.
Extremely easy to install and use.

I love all the options, I have the app on my iPhone and love it, also on my laptop.

This link was posted here before, (maybe socks?) it is to the Kindle boards, go to Kindle Bazaar, you will see "free books" and also Bargain Books....well worth a glance every few days. I have picked up a lot of really good business books free.

I finally figured out the voice Kindle. Don't like it. It doesn't 'break' for when people are talking. Once sentence runs into the next. But it was cool for the 2 minutes I tried it. LOL I think it might be okay for a text book, but not a novel.
