Okay, I downloaded the Kindle for PC

Okay folks, I need hand holding, lol.

I downloaded the bulling book (thanks holly!) AND I found a couple of my favorite statistics books in Kindle format. When I eventually get a Kindle, will I be able to transfer them to the Kindle or are they "stuck" on the PC?

Do any of these things read to you? I am thinking my daily 2 hour commute could benefit from being red stats books.

Any other advise. I have saved the thread about the kinds of readers so I have those nuances.

you can easily move them to the kindle by simply doing a sync and it will find them and put them on your kindle be sure you set up all of your kindle accounts with amazon using the same username and password etc.

There are a lot of free kindle format books which you can use on your kindle for pc. search for free kindle books on amazon and google.
I like feedbooks.com they also offer kindle format

As long as you use the same Amazon email addy and password when you register your Kindle with Amazon, the books will synch automatically and will be found under archives.

You have a computer? Then you can download the free Kindle app from Amazon - they have PC and Mac compatible versions. Also for Blackberries, Androids (I think) and iPhone. You don't have to buy the hardware to read the book. (Although I have to say, I do love my Kindle).

you get your books directly to the kindle from the kindle store. Are you trying to move something from your kindle archive on your kindle for pc to your kindle device? if so you can do that with out using any cords you simply need to sync the devices and it will all have the same content. All of the kindle devices MUST have the same user name and account with amazon to share or sync however. Once you have the kindle device on just choose to sync with others in your account and it will move all of your books from your kindle on pc to the kindle device and vice versa. with the kindle for pc up in the top right corner click up there and choose sync to sync it from there. In earlier models you could use a memory card in the kindle but the newer ones do not have the memory card. the whisper sync function is totally wireless and very easy to use. You can also go to your personal library page on your account at amazon kindle and find all of your books listed there from there you can choose any of them to have synced to your devices. You do not want to do it the email way because you will be charged a fee for that

I use and love the product by amazon which is free for the pc Kindle for pc, you can download it in just minutes, and you can get a lot of free books from the amazon store so you can try it out with out buying a thing, I have a nice library on my pc made up of totally free books. "free kindle books list" It will be sent directly to your kindle for pc that you have selected it to go to. Des- The Kindle for PC would store books on your hard drive, so you don't really need to worry about a limit since book files are not that big. On average, a book file might take up only about 1 MB -- sometimes more, sometimes a lot less -- so you could store maybe 5000 books in 5 GB. My computer has a 500 GB hard drive, so storing that many books would take up like 1% of the hard drive. And once your husband read any of those books, they could be deleted. Bottomline: It's a non-issue. Using the Kindle for PC application will not hurt the performance of your PC or affect its storage capacity in a meaningful way even if you store 1000's of books on it.

There's a kindle for PC? Is it free? I downloaded the Kindle app for the Iphone, but that's as far as I've gotten, not even set up the account yet. I'll be following this thread with lots of interest. DH says no to a Kindle, since I can do it with the phone, so I hope I can put my PDF knitting patterns on it and have them work on the phone.

Tami, I downloaded it free from the Amazon site. Of course the books I am most interested in are textbooks so they are just expensive as the printed books.

So if I buy a textbook Kindle version and have the Kindle PC app downloaded at home and work, I will be able to access the textbook both places! That would be a true back saver!!!! Textbooks are heave and never seem to be in the office where I need them- 45 miles between house and work is not conducive to running to the other for a book.

Yup! That's the great thing about Kindle. I can read my books on my computer. Or on my iPhone if I don't bring my Kindle with me. All will sync with each other.

And books you purchase will always be on your Amazon account even if you decide to delete them from your phone or PC. Once they're yours, they're always yours.

I do not own an actual kindle but do have the free kindle for pc app on all of my windows computers and laptop and netbooks. They work very well. I have a ton of free ebooks I have found at various places online that have kindle format for free. It will sync with any other kindle or kindle app.
Extremely easy to install and use.

I love all the options, I have the app on my iPhone and love it, also on my laptop.

This link was posted here before, (maybe socks?) it is to the Kindle boards, go to Kindle Bazaar, you will see "free books" and also Bargain Books....well worth a glance every few days. I have picked up a lot of really good business books free.

I finally figured out the voice Kindle. Don't like it. It doesn't 'break' for when people are talking. Once sentence runs into the next. But it was cool for the 2 minutes I tried it. LOL I think it might be okay for a text book, but not a novel.
