Can anyone help with a Kindle question?

Have a new Kindle and cannot figure how to download from my computer to the actual device. I have it hooked to the usb port but all it will say is:

IF YOU WANT TO USE YOUR KINDLE AND CONTINUE CHARGING, PLEASE EJECT YOUR KINDLE FROM YOUR COMPUTER.

How can I get it to take a download? i keep going around in circles and of course there is no phone support because of the holiday.

Oh and by the way HAPPY NEW YEAR to all and especially you nice, kind and patient people who help us non-geeks with our questions, you guys really are amazing.

Hi Hope you have found the answer to your question. I too am a new Kindle owner and from what I understand you can not download directly from your computer to the kindle. Your best bet would be to go to Amazon and look at the Kindle discussion boards and Customer service FAQs.

Tricia, my KF will read portrait and landscape style. The cover I have makes it look like a book with a semi hard cover, and the KF just slides into a slot/pocket in the cover, and as you fold the cover you can either hold it like a book or turn the cover into the stand. I've only had it a little over a week, but really like it. Do make sure you buy the correct cover for the kindle (or any ereader) that you buy, as they are NOT universal. Definitely go to Best Buy and check out all of them, not just the various kindles. I'm sure you will enjoy it! Sending good wishes for the desired results of your dr's confrence call. Tami

My husband recently suffered a back injury, which resulted in an extremely painful bulging disc. He could barely move. He couldn't go to work - he had to stay home and get as much rest as possible. He had to be on his back with his knees up on one of those tempurpedic wedge things, or on his side with his top leg bent at the knee and up on a body pillow. He's not one for watching a lot of tv, but he does love to read. But, he tends to read books that don't come in paperback -- his books are huge thick hardbound things that are heavy. Try holding up a heavy book for hours at a time while you're on your back or side. Doesn't work well. But a Kindle is light enough that you can hold it for hours and hours and hours while you're in virtually any position. And as I said before, you can hold it in one hand and still advance pages. My Hubs has said that having a Kindle is what saved his sanity during that recovery time. For those who live alone, how would you get to the library to check out and/or return books when you're ill? With a Kindle, you can get books 24 hours a day, every day. I love to knit, but I don't always have knitting patterns with me when I decide to knit something new/different. So, I've put several knitting patterns into Word documents, then had the Kindle "Personal Document Service" convert them to Kindle format. So, now I'll always have knitting patterns with me. And, yes, the patterns even have photos, too. :-) You can increase (or decrease) the size of the print on a Kindle, and you can also change the screen orientation from portrait to landscape. Many Target stores already sell the Kindle, and I think all Target stores should be carrying them soon. And, I think it's Best Buy that is going to carry all three -- the Kindle, the Nook, and the Sony e-reader; so you can go into the store to check them out in person.

I have a Kindle and also use the Kindle App on my iPad and I seldom look at the time remaining. But I wonder if it recalculates the time every time you turn it off and then back on again . The navigation on my car estimates the time remaining to my destination - but it changes depending on the speed of my car. Is it possible that you were reading a little slower the second time or stopped to answer the phone or something? I'll have to look my mine the next time. And to be really scientific I could open both my Kindle and iPad and check the time on both of them......lol Maire

I'm on my second Kindle, and it's genuinely one of my favorite possessions. Thoughts on your questions: Whether you buy the 8 or 10 inch version, you'll be able to adjust the print size to whatever you prefer at the moment. Personally, I find that I like to "up" my print size in the evenings; perhaps my eyes are tired. Reason to go with the 8" -- it may be a bit lighter, and if you're a lay-on-your-back reader like me, you may appreciate that slight difference. Reason to go with the 10" -- you'll "turn the page" less often. My first Kindle reached the same point you're describing: The battery wouldn't hold a charge. I'd fully charge it, and I could get all of 30 minutes of reading out of it. Thing is, all rechargeable batteries have a limited lifespan ... eventually every rechargeable battery will reach the point you're describing, and -- for a Kindle -- it's better to get a newer, nicer model than to replace the battery. Kindles are becoming cheaper and nicer ... my original Kindle cost over $300 and wasn't as nice as the $99 versions available today. Someone else mentioned a Fire. If you're a reader, I'd avoid the Fire. Because the Fire does more things, its battery just doesn't hold a candle to the Kindle's battery. When my current Kindle was new, it'd hold a charge (with heavy use) over three weeks (assuming the wifi's turned off) ... a Fire's battery charge is measured in hours. When you get any new rechargeable battery, you need to allow it to "run down" 100% the first time you use it ... it kind of "sets up" the battery for a longer lifespan. When I got my new, current Kindle (3-4 years ago?), I was surprised at just much faster it was. Now it may be reaching the end of its lifespan. Last thought: Moving all my books and categories from the old Kindle to the new was super easy (and I have over 1000 books). I can only assume that a game would move just as easily.

I dont have one.. but it looks like you can not download anything from the pc excpt for select file types from kindle pc folders.

Mostly you would email docs to amazon and then receive them 3g wireless.

you get your books directly to the kindle from the kindle store. Are you trying to move something from your kindle archive on your kindle for pc to your kindle device? if so you can do that with out using any cords you simply need to sync the devices and it will all have the same content.
All of the kindle devices MUST have the same user name and account with amazon to share or sync however. Once you have the kindle device on just choose to sync with others in your account and it will move all of your books from your kindle on pc to the kindle device and vice versa. with the kindle for pc up in the top right corner click up there and choose sync to sync it from there.

In earlier models you could use a memory card in the kindle but the newer ones do not have the memory card.

the whisper sync function is totally wireless and very easy to use. You can also go to your personal library page on your account at amazon kindle and find all of your books listed there from there you can choose any of them to have synced to your devices.

You do not want to do it the email way because you will be charged a fee for that

Raven, should have said that I cannot use the wireless, cannot get reception in this spot, can't get wireless phone reception here either.

I knew that would be the case but I checked anyway when I got the Kindle. So I just went about trying to download from Amazon to my computer and then on to my Kindle device from my computer, but the instructions were not very clear on exactly how to go about it.

Anyway, I have gotten some books downloaded, but not sure how I managed to do that. Now I've got to go back to step one and try to remember how I did it and start all over. I messed with it way too long yesterday and got so fuzzy brained I don't know what I did or when or how I did it.

wow you are the first person I have heard of that can not get connection with it, my brother in law takes his out to the rig he works on in the middle of the gulf and has reception there, he travels a lot to remote rig sites and rarely loses connection. I would take it with you when you go somewhere with better connection areas and do all the moving of stuff and syncing then.

Can anyone help with a Kindle question?
