Burning Windows Movie Maker videos to DVD

I have used Windows Movie Maker several times and burned to CDs successfully. I would like to burn a particular video to DVD to be played in our regular DVD player. I have Roxio Creator 9.1, but find it very complicated to use. I always end up with a background or something else that I do not want. I just want to be able to burn my movies to DVD in a straightforward manner. I have titles, transitions, and music all in place. I have saved the movies to my computer. I believe they are in WMV format, but a burning program should be able to change the format, if I understand correctly.

Any suggestions for a free program that will do the job with Windows Movie Maker movies will certainly be appreciated. TIA.

Looks like lots of information on burning software. Thanks for the link. I'll be doing lots of reading (and experimenting?).

CPU usage is at 8-10 percent. I looked at Norton briefly and didn't see any activity going on...how do I go in and exclude a program from it? it is Norton Systemworks basic edition, just renewed (online subscription). I'm on Windows XP. WME has been "encoding the first pass" since last night. I'm assuming I did everything right, since there were no instructions for newbies of WME. I selected my MPG file, selected WMV as the output type, DVD quality for video, and CD quality for audio. The choices did say "VBR" or "CBR" which I didn't know the difference of...so I chose CBR.

As long as you can load the video into Movie Maker, it is super easy to edit out those feet! If you just want to remove parts of the beginning or end - just drag your mouse along the end of the clip (in the time line) to trim it. It will have a red arrow that points both ways. When you mouse over the ends of the video you will see the arrow. If you goof at any time - just click the undo arrow on the tool bar above. I have never uploaded to Photobucket. You will need to save it in a format that will allow you to upload it. There is an awesome Movie Maker Forum that I have learned a lot from. I burn Windows Movie Maker projects to DVD all the time.

Under Step 3, I choose: SAVE TO MY COMPTUER. In the next window I type in the title of the movie and select it to save under MY VIDEOS. In the next window (MOVIE SETTINGS) I choose OTHER SETTINGS, and I select HIGH QUALITY (NTSC).

After the movie has saved, I open up Roxio's DVD builder. I am using an older version, so it may be called something else in your version.

I then import the Windows Movie Maker video file and add that to the DVD.

You can add more than one WMM project to the DVD or just the one you have.

I can answer any other questions if this doesn't make sense.

Thanks, Iowagirl. I got to step 3 and saved to my computer. Had to try a couple of times because it got so far and then I got one of those "have to close" messages. Not sure whether I did the same (other settings), but I do know I selected High Quality. It's the darned Roxio program that gives me the problem. I'll keep trying.

I just found a great tutorial on using WMM by Microsoft. It also goes into burning using Roxio My DVD, which I have. Best of all, it gives directions 1,2,3,etc. and illustrations. I am good at following detailed instructions, so I printed this and feel I can handle the job now. Thanks for your help.
