Late report.....a good time with Cathy and Raymon

Sorry for the late report y'all. I tried to get this up before leaving for vacation but it didn't happen. I'm up in SD and MN visiting family and won't return until the end of the next week.

Anyway, I met up with Cathy and Raymond last weekend in OKC while they were attending a softball tournament with their league. The rain delayed games and cut our time short but we did have great dinner Friday night, Tex Mex for lunch on Saturday and checked out the National Memorial at the site from the federal building bombing.

Here are a few pics from dinner....

First course compliments of the chef and appetizers.

Smoked salem, onion rings, mango bbq bacon wrapped shrimp, insalata caprese, artichoke gratin.

For the main course I had the wild mushroom lasagna, Raymone had a mango crab stack, and Cathy had chicken fettuccine with asiago cream.

A great evening with good friends.

Here are a few shots from the memorial. I got a little choked up but managed to keep my composure. The chairs represent the 168 people that were killed. The smaller chairs are for the kids that lost their lives.....

I'm running short on time or I would offer more of an explanation to the pics. Sorry about that.

They brought me a little surprise bag from TJ's!! Too cool!

It was great to see Cathy again and to also have the pleasure of meeting her husband Raymond. He is a great guy.....a true southern gentleman.

I'm going check out a few post before we head out for the afternoon. Other than that, I'll be home at the end of next week. I hope everyone is doing well and has a great 4th!!

I'm glad you were able to get together. The food sounds yummy and I'm sure the company was great!

How nice to see you all together. My first thought was "my goodness, david is either very short or he is sitting in a hole." Then I realized you are squatting down between Cathy and Raymond!

The chairs are very touching. The little ones make me so sad. It kind of reminds me of the cemetery scene in Our Town.

I'm really glad I checked in here this evening... I live less than a mile from a 23 acre piece of property, that was a horse arena/lounge/restaurant/stables.... it's for sale and it's vacant. by the light of the full moon tonight, I could see clearly just how much there is, of long time composted horse poop, in the cement open bins...soooo much out there. I hadn't even paid any attention to it before but recently I've been craving compost for the yard. I do believe I found my source and don't know if I want to bother to call the realty company for permission. I don't want them to say to stay out of there. maybe I could just go ahead and fill buckets and haul some home, each evening. taking care of grandkids, I always drive right by it.. what started as a surprise that it was for sale in the first place..eventually led to this latest discovery of "black gold"..of course a lot of it is sawdust, from the arena itself. that should be even better, shouldn't it?? I know it's been a couple of years now, since anyone has been in there.

Cathy, you are so fortunate because you get those gorgeous Great Spangled Frits up where you live. We are too far south of their range. They see them in the NE part of our state, but not down this far. Linda, I've never had them on my P. incarnata. I've seen them flying in my yard, but never found any cats. It could have been I just missed them in the Gulf Frit deluge, though, too. I need to find another P. incarnata, but Precure hadn't gotten any of them in yet, and didn't know if they would. I imagine I can find one at TLC or possibly Horns or Satterlee's, but they're so darned expensive! These Blue Violets sure did attract them. Today I saw a HUMONGOUS Question Mark in the front yard. Had to be a female. Hope she left some eggs on the Hops in the front yard. I already have some in the back yard. Also saw a Red Admiral as well. I keep checking my False Nettle......... I'm almost convinced I should try it in pots. They are supposed to be hardy, but maybe my drainage wasn't good enough or something. Who knows. I've got to get my containers cleaned out, but I've been so busy trying to plant things. Susan

I've been waiting for this update! I know that y'all had a great time and great food too! thanks for sharing the memorial, it brought tears to my eyes too. Have a great time visiting with all the family, you deserve the time off!

Thanks for the pictures and report! Wish I coulda been there! Hangin with Cathy & David -- definitely lots o laughs.

I've been to the OKC bombing site three times. Once shortly after the tragedy, once while they were in the midst of building the memorial and once to visit the completed memorial and museum. (I have a friend who lives in Shawnee which is about an hour from OKC.) Each time the emotions were overwhelming. We figured on spending about an hour in the museum, but spent probably three hours there, and only left because we were all so hungry for lunch. (This included my at that time, teenage sons, who also did not want to leave.) It's a very well done memorial and museum -- I highly recommend it to anyone who is visiting Oklahoma.

Everyone looks so happy and the food presentation is elegant! Nice TJ's haul, and you didn't forget Lucy.

Memorials. I usally pick one name and try to think about that person and end up with the faucet full blast.

Oh it does look like a great time! I;m glad you had so much fun.

When we were in OKC a couple of years ago we took the boys to see the memorial. I sobbed the entire time we were there.

What a great time with friends, and the food looks delicious.

Count me as another one who cries at things like the Memorial. I've never been there but I guarantee you I'd cry like a baby, I get teary eyed just thinking about it.

Talk about late reporting...we got home at midnight last night from our 2 week road/fly trip. i.e. We drove to OKC then to Boulder and flew home from Denver.

Needless to say, my friend David was a great host. He gave us the best guidance on dining opportunities in the Bricktown area of OKC. David recommended Nonna's and it turns out that it is a fabulous restaurant as you can see by David's pictures. We had a great lunch the following day, also at David's recommendation. This was our third get-together; he is charming, easy to be with, and a really cutie as those of you have met him can attest to. I count David as a dear friend.

David gave us a head's up about the OKC Memorial. While I have seen it on TV and websites, it is such a sobering experience to see it in person. We went twice-once without David and again when David arrived. I would go again if I get back to OKC which should happen as we really enjoyed the city during our 3 day visit.

He surprised me with a gift bag, the theme was BBQ. He got sneaky and checked with Sherry and Peppi and found out that I am venturing into grilling and BBQing. I can't wait to use David's gifts in my quest to be the Grill Lady like Peppi. He is giving me a leg up with the essential tools like:

*Maggie, I am excited to report that the Mustangs won the ASA Hall of Fame Championship!!! The team ended up playing 18 games in 9 days between OKC and DEN including the stress of flying TPA>OKC>DEN.
