I was trying to update my computer with windows vista service pk 2 because every time I tried to update my internet explorer to 9 I would get a message that says that I didn't have the right service pk. So I was never able to update my computer with windows vista service pk 2 with all the help I got from this forum. I don't even know how windows vista service pk 2 ended up off of my computer at all because it was there. But I have been trying to update from windows vista to windows 7 and it goes through the whole process and as it is finishing up when it says it's going to cut off and on several times the second time the computer reboots there a message that says the installment was unsuccessful and failed. I don't know what the problem is. i restored my computer to factory settings first before trying to install windows 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

To begin, does your system meet the Windows 7 requirements?
Most likely it does, but it is the best place to start.

yes my computer does meet the requirements I have Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and it says that it is

From my experience with W 7 & 8...I would google Classic Shell and see if it is compatible with W 8.1, if it is I would go with it. I think every computer I have had except ME has been faster than the last one. Classic Shell is a great software that converts the W8's into a computer more like the version we are use to. My Acer laptop is very fast and the monitor part moves to comfortable positions for your vision, especially if you have mid range vision. It converts from a laptop to a tablet, a very large tablet.

Yes I have Roku 2, and it now has access to Youtube - still it must suffer from the same HD shortfall as Netflix, which I also have via Roku. Then too I have only 8 mb DSL (more like 6 mb). But, using my computer with a wireless keyboard and mouse, I an scroll around the screen to click and type in search strings much easier using the computer to drive Youtube or any other computer accessed information and streaming data. I don't have a big HDTV, only 30" and only the lower (don't remember the number maybe 1080) lines .

Sounds like a MITM (Man in the middle) attack. MITM happens when another person intercepts your connection between your computer and other servers/websites. Pretty much, they sit in the middle. Try the free version of CCProxy software and you should no longer have this problem.

Just a question, not help.

Is SP2 for Vista an update to Windows 7? That's how I read the post... not an issue that impacts me so no need to answer if it is just a stupid question - I am at Windows 8 now, with other at Windows 7 and XP, no Vista machines.

Do a Custom (e.g. "Clean" install) and then re-install your applications. Upgrades leave too much baggage.
Note: This will delete all your files so BACKUP before proceeding.
